As far as I know, When I Grow Up was also considered for the album and was even mixed down. Bootlegs have the mix which contains a bit of the "counting" vocals at the end, with at least two of the band audibly chirping "69" at the end. I don't know why it wasn't used; I'd rather have had that than Little Saint Nick or Surfer Girl.
Never knew this about When I Grow Up was considered cheers. Any more little known facts about this album? I'd hope we'd learn some "new" facts about the album when I started the topic. It's just so few known. So thanks to all contributors. Was any Beach Boy ever asked during an interview about the album? I guess Carl might've had some inside

As I'm sure you know, "Rocket 88" is considered to be one of the first proto-type rock songs and it was about a car. "Rocket 455" by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings is obviously an attempt to continue that tradition so referencing a group that recorded more car songs than surfing songs is not completely unexpected. Also, Welch and Rawlings are not strictly "country" music in that they've recorded with Robyn Hitchcock and have toured with groups like Son Volt among others. No matter how other songs sound, this one is absolutely "country", and average if not worse at that. I like some other stuff by Gillian Welch, but all that is better than this song. Well, how many songs about cars are there and how many of them actually do mention the BBs ? So, I didn't expect it and I guess most other people here didn't either I wasn't trying to be a jerk about it, but I can now see my post came off that way a bit! I appreciate your many posts regarding early rock from folks like Elvis and Jerry Lee which is why my mind went to "Rocket 88" and then the Beach Boys cars songs of the early 60s. Mine wasn't meant in evil spirits neither. Sorry if you had that feeling. Guess that's the way it goes from time to time on a message board. My daughter Sierra's nearly two but can't even pronounce her own name properly yet. My obsession with the Beach Boys is a source of bemusement with my partner Steph's side of the family. So when my daughter started screaming "Beach Boys, Beach Boys, Beach Boys, Beach Boys..." down the phone at her Gran the other night, Steph and I laughed until we wept, for the next hour.
Does that class as one of those moments....? No, that's just crazy !

I have some questions about this album. How much were the Beach Boys (the Wilsons?) involved in the making of this album ? Who decided which tracks were used and did the mixes ? And who was responsible for the guitar charts that came with the original LP? Did Carl or Brian tell them exactly which chords are played? Was there any kind of promotion ? Did any Beach Boy ever talk about it publicly except for Brian's liner notes?

there was a heavier bass sound which I think would have helped the released track.
The singleversion thankfully had a heavier mix than the albumversion. I wonder if this version here still exists in the vaults and might see light of day sometime.....

A friend of mine is a big Ramones fan and I always was jelaous at his t-shirt! So yesterday I made the version I posted! And hey... the photshopping was not THAT bad!? So let's have a poll - Who wants MURRY to stay in the circle for final version? And this is the button I'll be wearing to the Gershwin gig to make sure I get beaten up by blueboarders... //RD Hey, can I have one of those for the german BB-message-board ?
