Hey Chuck , you might want to move your post count up a notch  Grin
27  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: GV boxed set - disc 6 on: July 20, 2006, 10:45:23 AM
I thought it was Uk only as well, Sumahama also went top 10 in the UK Shocked.
When I bought my box originally there was meh triangular sticker as well like the logo on the bonus cd and front on main box. Had to buy it again a couple of years later again with no sticker or bonus cd, debatedly better without either Grin

UK chart placings:

Bluebirds - #33
Tears In The Morning - didn't chart
HTCN - #37 (the single edit, not this version)
Lady Lynda - #6
Sumahama - #45

ha ha! I deserved that after correcting you the other week, I meant Lady Lynda  Cheesy , both songs are slices of chedder though.

edit : dont you mean HCTN .

pedantically yours

The rumour doesn't state Boyd was gay, just he was  the object of Nick unrequited affections. As I said before and before , most likely bollox
29  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Nick Drake on: July 20, 2006, 08:42:34 AM
Most likely rubbish at best. But their are some who believe that a lot of Nick Drake's melancholy arose from the fact that he was confused sexually and that Boyd was an object of his affection. As I said most likely garbage
30  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Nick Drake on: July 20, 2006, 06:25:25 AM
yep, there were 'scurrilous rumours' about Drake and Boyd. I used to be very big on Nick Drake but it is just so intense at times, it begs you to be involved with the music and lyrics and I just cant seem to go there to often nowadays.  Sad

36  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: How is SMILE selling on: June 22, 2006, 03:56:38 PM
I'm guessing you've never heard the December 1967 Capitol marketing promo for SmileCool

Checking with the RIAA, it hasn't gone gold yet, so domestic sales are under 500,000.

I always preferred the December '66 one myself  Cool Cool

Anything out of Pete's mouth should be taken with a grain of salt.

of all the broad spectrum of music I love and have heard the who just have never done it for me , yeah there is the well known tracks that anybody would know and like but I think it all boils down to the persona of pete 'research purposes' townsend. the man just leaves me cold

43  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: California feelin' on: April 28, 2006, 06:37:53 AM
I managed to hear a few rarities recently and  the Rocky Pamplin version of CF rocks! Much better than the BB version, not as plodding and Rockys voice had the swagger that is lacking on Carls version.
Not sure if anyones gonna agree with me on this.
On an opposite note the song 'Can't stop talking about American Girls' by Mike Love has the worst vocal on any record ever, did they not let him hear the backing track whilst it was being recorded.

Sorry mate but even being open minded on this one, it sucks the big one. Mr Pamplin has a voice for scaring small children not singing, even in the different key it all goes disasterously wrong in the orange grove section and the whole vocal is flatter than holland. I blame Marilyn myself Tongue

trying to stay neutral on this one , however if I was a co-admin of a section of the board I would consider behind the scenes private messaging with fellow admins as necessary, even if it was just 'How are you today?' stuff, i always find it helps when I get on with the people I work with.... Wink
