In regards to Al having a diverse voice. Until recently I've always heard the lead on Vega-Tables as Brian. Even though it clearly states in the TSS booklet that it's Al. I just couldn't help but picture it as Brian. Now I hear Al. Same goes for I Know There's An Answer. I never read vocal credits and always thought it was Mike doing the lead throughout. Nope, just on the first verse. So while in the end while he may be the one that sang lead on Help Me Rhonda! His contributions are essential.

How about that it's incredible cheesy and represents all the bad things about BB? How about that it's incredibly dated. How about the fact that ML can't seem to shut up about it. Oh sure it's a crowd pleaser. I don't believe it's a crowd pleaser because people think it's some great  work of art. It's a crowd pleaser because people remember it as a corny little song that was a hit back in the late 80's. If the song never went to #1 we wouldn't be talking about it today. How about that in every single interview ML just has to mention Kokomo. Usually in the same sentence as all the classics. We all know that Kokomo doesn't belong in the same dimension as the classic BB songs.

Oh, and to those who defend the better aspects of it. Mainly Carl's vocal contributions. Carl Wilson could have sung over the sounds of someone farting into a paper bag and his voice would still be goosebump inducing. Just because he's great on it, doesn't make the song great.

If you want to show that The Beach Boys were more than just a surf and car group as far as albums go those 3 are the way to go.

Dear Beach Boys,

With the recent placing of "Surf's Up" and the #1 and #3 positions at both Mojo and Rolling Stone magazines poll of the greatest ever Beach Boys songs. I think it's about time to introduce the song into the set list. If you have to remove a song I suggest "Kokomo." That's right Mr. Love just let it go. For the sake of all that is right in the world please let it go. We get it, it was a number one hit and it was written without Brian. Good for you. You had your moment in the sun now it's time to move on. Beach Boys fans don't want to hear "Kokomo" Just replace it with "Surf's Up." It's all we ask

The Smile Session light-up set is far and away the best box set I own. The Beatles in mono is the best non BB set

Yeah, it is pretty cool. I don't know about $700 cool, but cool nonetheless. Which got me thinking. If your going to sell an item and limit it to 100 copies and sell it for a lot of money. You would think to make it a point to makes sure there's nothing wrong with it first right?

All of the votes for "Summer of Love" are dead on correct. Yeah there's been album tracks and hard to find tracks that could possibly be worse musically (notice I said possibly worse) but what puts SOL on top as mentioned earlier is that it was put out as a single. Somebody actually thought this would make a hit single. I like to think of it as the Plan 9 From Outer Space of songs. A song so bad that it's hilarious. There are absolutely no redeeming qualities about it whatsoever. Musically, lyrically, vocally everything about it sucks. The video is the icing on the cake too.

Quick review. Show was great. A few things.

1. God Only Knows was incredibly moving. The idea to play to Carl on video is brilliant. No one else should sing that song.
2. I'm sorry to its fans, but they need to drop Kokomo. They could replace it with about 100 different choices.
3. Brian on bass. Yay

Sorry just seems absurd to complain that the Beach Boys are playing their hits. Especially based on one show.

This thread is almost as ridiculous as the one that complained that The Smile Sessions in mono is a disaster for the Beach Boys legacy.

If he doesn't get it so be it. There's no sense in trying to convince him. I'm sure there's stuff your dad's into that you don't get either.
