It doesn't have a review yet on AllMusic, but they did already give it 3 stars...
The review is on the front page, under the blog heading. They did the same thing with POB: show it in their blog, then move it to the artist's discography upon release. I know, but when you look at his discography, that's no review yet but there already is a 3 star rating. I know. That is exactly what I've been saying. As they have been doing recently, the review debuts on the front page blog section and then upon release date is moved to the reviews section (that currently has the rating but no review).

Except we know that he IS creative musically. Otherwise we wouldn't be on this board in the first place.
Well that's not true either. Logic isn't working well around here. IS implies present tense. We could very well be around here if he was, but no longer were, creative musically. (Meaning not IS.) But yes, I believe he is still doing fine work. I never said otherwise. I like TLOS quite a lot, as I've said. Often.

There are the "hotel tapes," which aren't demos but are recordings of Brian playing through a bunch of old (and I think maybe some then-new) songs. I forget who is present: Bruce Johnston, John Stamos ... I don't recall who else. Not good quality, but pretty funny, especially as Bruce keeps trying to show a clearly uninterested--or at least easily distracted--Brian a new part the Beach Boys have added to "Caroline No."

A thousand pardons for using your "creativity" and adding my own "talent." If by creativity, you meant the ability to continue to make the same kind of odd statements he's always made in interviews, then yeah, it proves he still has that. I assumed you meant musical creativity, which that statement doesn't prove he has at all.

I give this a 4. It would be a 3.5 (or thereabouts) if we could give fractions, but I'm rounding up. Really, though, I don't like the women's voices much at all: my ranking is based on the tracks and production more than anything.

It ought not be too surprising that allmusic didn't give TLOS a great review. They have been pretty hard on BW solo material, and even BBs material overall. In the past few years they've re-reviewed most of the back catalogue, but I bought a late 90s edition of their book (See, kids, in the old days the Internet was called books, and they were made of paper and ink...updates were made by buying new editions, and so on. These were hard times.) and it pretty consistently gave BBs albums 2-3 stars. Things like Sunflower (now 4.5), Surf's Up, Smiley Smile and Wild Honey (all now 4) were all lowly regarded. For whatever reason, that's just how they come at the stuff. So allmusic and the Guardian don't like it. Oh well. Other major outlets did. And there are more (and more mixed reviews) to come. Most non-fanatics would probably agree this isn't a flat-out classic, and so it's bound to be reviewed hot and cold. Taste plays a huge part, and I think most people can understand why this wouldn't be to everyone's. It's not that big a deal.

That comment doesn't prove anything about any talent Wilson ever had, has now or will have in the future. It just proves he has a strange way of thinking about the creation of music. A guy who writes terrible, terrible music could have said the exact same thing and it wouldn't prove that guy was any good, either. Wilson's music proves Wilson's musical ability.

Even though I'm sure I've done this before and almost certainly in some different order, my favorites are probably Pet Sounds, Today!, Friends, Surf's Up, Love You, Holland, SD(&SN!), Holland, All Summer Long, Sunflower.

Making stereo of a Brian Wilson mono is like adding more definition to a Monet.
I could hardly disagree more. Also, quoting...when your new text is within the quotes (i.e. before the [/quote]), it can become difficult to tell what is new, especially in multi-part quotes. The idea is Other person's text. New text. See? PS, I'm not being a jackass here. Just trying to help those in need.

You should give yourself more credit, Luther. Both of those recordings were damn good. If you call those "half hearted" then I'd love to hear you do a "serious" version. Thank you. I appreciate the compliment. But to be honest, I don't see any "serious" DW covers in my future, as I'm not much of a fan of most of his work.

It was not a official label release so not in my definition of BB album. A album to me is something I could buy today at a store or obtain legally if out of print.
I remember a similar subject was discussed a few years back when Brian released SMiLE. Ego Board I think.
Gotcha. (I'd have taken your side of the argument with pre-BWPS Smile, btw. And still do. On that one, I'd say it's sessions, not an album, and not relevant for apples-to-apples comparison to BWPS.)

Oh, I'm not disputing why it was rejected or the label's right to do so. Just saying that it was complete enough to be submitted, so it's complete enough to be considered now.

It's fair to discuss, comment on and critique the material that we know. And if that material was intended to be an album, then it's fair to critique it as an album. Plus--and I KNOW someone will correct me if I'm wrong, here--this isn't just a collection of session tapes, for example. Unless I'm mistaken, this was assembled and turned in to the label, and unreleased because it was rejected. There is a world of difference between this and, say, "Soulful Old Man Sunshine" (until its eventual assembly and release long after the fact) or other such tunes.

It's a lot closer to the best than to the worst BBs album, in my estimation. There's only one song I don't like: "On Broadway." And "Lines," "It's Trying to Say (Baseball)," "Still I Dream of It," "It's Over Now" and a couple others are among my favorites.
