It's weird these songs are labeled Michigan State University..  The show took place in Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor on the campus of the University of Michigan.
Michigan State University is not in Ann Arbor.

Another performer who leaves the stage before the song is finished is Ringo Starr..  who is way more comfortable in front of an audience than Brian.  On his last tour, at least, he'd leave 1-2 minutes before the last song ended while the band jammed to the conclusion.. and he didn't even come back to bow with everyone.  Brian's at least there after "Love & Mercy" holding hands with the other guys.

As for the question of who would go to a Brian show without knowing what to expect..  my parents.  I'm going in September and after seeing "Love & Mercy" they dropped SERIOUS coin.  I'm very anxious they are going to rain on my parade by being surprised how uncomfortable Brian is no matter how much I try to explain it to them in advance.

Looks like on the most recent show, Brian is back to his piano being more off to the side as opposed to dead center.

Tour program. Mike and Bruce are gone from the SD zoo shoot. Shame the bad blood has come to this.

He probably knows Mike and Bruce would sue him for using their "likeness."
83  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What if The Beach Boys Love You was scrapped? on: February 25, 2016, 09:30:15 AM
I can't help but observe that anytime someone praises Love You, it's mostly because the albums before and after are so lousy.  I can even see that, reading this thread.

What if Love You came out right after, say, Sunflower?  Would it still be the cat's whiskers?

I've not read anyone say they like LOVE YOU because of the albums surrounding it.  Yes, I would still love it if it came after "Sunflower."  I know this because I like it more than "Surf's Up."  I enjoy the heck out of the album--those who don't like it are just a bunch of Mike Love's who can't handle not hearing a publicly-approved hit every few songs.

I just got 2 tickets for St Augustine FL Sept 30.

Interesting.. I have Detroit tickets for that same day.
85  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy - News and Reviews - First clip is out. on: February 17, 2016, 01:47:50 PM
My parents, casual Beach Boys fans at best, watched my blu-ray last night.  They are 62 and 60 and don't go for anything the least bit unusual or non-commercial.

They LOVED it.  They couldn't stop talking about it.  Now they want to go with us to see Brian in Detroit in September..  That's something else if you knew them!

Meet people and greet them? I'd imagine (given my experience of similar events but without paying for them) you'd get a chance to talk to Brian's band, and maybe Al and Blondie, and then Brian will come in, you'll get a chance to shake his hand and maybe get an autograph, maybe exchange a few words.

The meet & greet is advertised with Brian only.
Does Brian seem like the type who wants to exchange a few words?  I don't think so.
The picture would actually be kind of a goal/finale to get your butt out of there for the next person.
88  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson 2016 Tour Thread (Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Tour) on: February 02, 2016, 05:17:14 AM
Regarding the meet and greet package, I've bought one for April 3 in Melbourne, but noticing there was no mention of a photo with the worldwide package as opposed the the U.S packages, I emailed the local promoter. They responded today by saying they'd been in touch with Brian's management about it and management has said it will depend on Brian on the given evening. So the photo opportunity may be hit and miss.

Interesting that Brian has a say in the non-US packages, but they say a picture IS included in the US packages.

With no picture, what do you do at a meet & greet?

I secured a front row seat for the Fox Theatre in Detroit. Last time I was stage left and right in front of Brian. This time I am stage right (though I tried for stage left), assuming a similar setup, I should be right in front of Al. Huge thanks to my wife, who rolled her eyes last night when I mentioned going to my third Brian Wilson show within an 18 month span.

How did everyone else do?

I got front row Detroit as well..  But by Brian.  Which excites me to no end!
I'm so nervous about meeting him, even though I know it will be awkward.

Great discussion, guys.  Really enjoying this read.
91  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Future 50 year/copyright releases on: December 14, 2015, 09:52:20 AM
And my understanding is that the label puts them out to extend copyright not to make money. And, while I too love physical releases, the handwriting is on the wall, CDs are being phased out.  The new macs don't even come with a cd port!

That's because they are trying to make them slim as possible..  You can still hook one up with a USB.
92  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy Soundtrack on: September 18, 2015, 05:51:42 AM
By the way, this is allegedly getting released on vinyl for Black Friday Record Store Day.

It will probably have less tracks than the CD

Why?  It's 38 minutes.  Shorter than Sgt Pepper.  It can fit no problem.
93  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy Soundtrack on: September 17, 2015, 08:37:56 PM
Now Amazon is back to saying Sept 18.

Weird.
94  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy Soundtrack on: September 17, 2015, 05:48:43 PM
Mine is shipped and scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Maybe they are out of stock?...  Listing mistake?...

It's not an "out of stock, will have by ______" announcement.
Oct 2 is now listed as the release date, even in the product description.

Either way I'll go to my local store tomorrow and see what up.
95  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy Soundtrack on: September 17, 2015, 05:36:08 PM
Amazon is now listing the cd as available on October 2.

Yeah I just saw that.  What's that all about?
Thought I'd be able to get one tomorrow.
96  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy Soundtrack on: August 13, 2015, 07:57:38 AM
I hope the CD cover is the film poster..  Brian's FB seems to suggest that.

If it's the DVD cover, I'll just buy the digital download.
97  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Is Brian Wilson actually left-handed? on: August 06, 2015, 12:06:05 PM
I'm left handed, but I play guitar and bass right-handed.

But I've seen him writing autographs with his right hand.

Kurt Cobain was a known lefty and played guitar left..  but he's been filmed signing autographs with his right hand.
So I have no idea how people determine if you are left & right..  It doesn't seem as clear cut as I thought it was.
98  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: No Pier Pressure - 4 Months Later on: August 06, 2015, 12:04:29 PM
"No Pier Pressure" is very down on my list of favorite Brian Wilson albums.  Much of it doesn't even musically sound like Brian to begin with, and once it came out Brian said "I can't write a song to save my life" in Rolling Stone Magazine..  So it appears it's Brian Wilson, and not the other guests, who is the true guest star on his own album.  The songs are very un-Brian like.
99  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy Soundtrack on: June 15, 2015, 08:04:12 AM
Having not seen L&M yet, but I do know they brush through the early hits and focus on the time of PS and Smile, before jumping between that and BW in the 80s. It really adds to the myth that BW lay in bed from 1967 until the 80s. Again Wild Honey - Holland is ignored despite BW being very active at times and penning some tremendous songs during the period. 15 BO onwards is also ignored because itīs outright embarrassing and one rather pretend LY, MIU, KTSA etc never existed... and who can blame em?

Not only does the movie suggest Brian laid in bed unproductive immediately following SMiLE, it has Brian himself saying the other Beach Boys were working on "Smiley Smile" without him even though he was all over the sessions and album itself.

"Pet Sounds" is #23 on Amazon's music sales chart.

"Sounds of Summer" is #40.

"No Pier Pressure" is #59.
