Thanks for the info, Ian. I wondered how I missed seeing that in The R&B back then. I must have been away when it ran, and missed seeing the paper. I would have at least cut out the ad and kept it. I did find my photos from the Lake Lanier Islands show, tho. No date other than May, 1981 on them. I don't have a printed ad for that either, found about the show from the radio.

I resided in Northeast Georgia in 1981 and I don't recall hearing about Mike Love playing the Agora Ballroom in Atlanta, but Carl Wilson played there in April of 1981. If Mike did play the Agora, it was likely a private show. I do have a memory of there being a non-performing ML appearance (signing) in the area that I missed to illness, it may have been around that time. There were other Agora Ballrooms in other cities, so it could be a different locale for your November date.
Mike played a public solo show in the spring (May/June -- I'll have to check the dates when I have access at home) of 1981 at Lake Lanier Islands, a golf resort near Buford, GA.

Very shortly after this was shot, we acquired a 3/4" color camera & recorder, that shot on these huge cassette type tapes.
Ed, I worked for a public television station back in the '70s and remember when we switched to 3/4" format, from 2-inch. Those 2-inch tape playback machines were huge, the size of a chest freezer. The 3/4" tape editing/playback machines took up less space, but yeah the cassettes were still pretty big, as cassettes go. I am delighted with Billy's DVD -- a truly unique view of a moment in time for the BBs. I love the "fly-on-the-wall" character of this film. You get to see the individual BBs as real people, and how life on the road unfolds. Billy has just extended his free shipping offer through the end of January, 2010, so there's another good reason to order 1974.

Embarrassingly enough, back in the day, the white outfits were labeled "ice cream suits" by the hipster establishment. IIRC, the "ice cream suits" were a set of brightly colored and/or pastel suits that they wore for the Eye magazine shoot -- not the white suits. BTW, I'm correcting the spelling in the subject line, because "stripped shirts" = shirtless. Not that that's a bad thing when it comes to Denny.

A couple of things for perspective's sake: Carl never got over losing Dennis, he was still sensitive on the subject many years after Denny's passing. He was also very, very concerned about Brian. The whole business with Landy was a painful experience for Carl, and it left lingering aftereffects in the brothers' relationship once Landy was out of the picture.

Billy's dedication to Carl would have been either on February 6 at the Corestates Center in Philadelphia or February 9 at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island New York. News of Carl's passing didn't become public until Feb. 7, so I suspect it's the 9th show.

Why was Dennis blessed with the sexy gene and not Carl or Brian?
They weren't? It's news to me! Seriously, it's all in the eyes of the beholder, dearie, and not just about shirtless poses. Of course Dennis was attractive, but so were his brothers in their own ways. Carl onstage was dynamite to this gal. Those Wilsons had serious charisma!
