Mike says in his book that in Nashville Carl "didn't even want to be filmed doing studio sessions", but was happy to do  "extended interviews for a video".

OK this has been bugging me lately - Mike made a big mistake on the chorus lyrics to Good Vibrations.  "I'm pickin' up good vibrations, she's giving me THE excitations!"  First line has 8 syllables, the second nine, and the "THE" sticks out like a sore thumb.  It doesn't even make sense - what's wrong with she's giving me excitations?  What are "THE" excitations?  So on probably the biggest song in their career, Mike blew the lyrics.  No wonder Brian wanted Van Dyke to do them after he'd promised them to Mike.

And in the second verse they just forget to sing some words so there is just instrument for a few beats! Shabby work by the guys on this song.

Yeah, but why sit and wait and accept we don't know anything in silence, when we can speculate randomly for another 30 or 40 pages.

Bruce's keyboard is on. It may be quiet in the mix most of the time, or not be in the audiences mix, but Bruce will have his own monitor where he may hear it.

Even then, it's audible on Disney Girls and I'm sure people in the past have said it's audible on other songs, but I cba to trawl the forums for them.

All I have to say about this is...how fucking dare you endanger the safety of your fans in a situation like this. A man has the right to learn a living, but there are better and safer ways to do it.

Yeah, I'm disgusted that Mike and Bruce grabbed random people from the street at gunpoint and forced them into the concert. Absolutely despicable.

Opinions like that is why BRI won't give us a box set
57  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Feel Flows box set on: July 29, 2020, 12:49:58 PM
If you weren't there in the Wilson's garage watching them write Surfin', can you really claim to be a fan?
58  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Feel Flows box set on: July 29, 2020, 12:10:55 PM
Yeah, the logical conclusion to "the set has been worked on for two years and is finished and ready for release but it doesn't currently has a date" is "it's cancelled" and "the beach boys hate us"

If we are gonna speculate maybe we could speculate something a bit more realistic?
Maybe the biggest market for this set is the USA, and the main customers are people who shop in record stores, and the US situation at the moment means its incredibly hard to guess at which point the majority of record stores across the entire country will be able to be safely open?

Wait sorry, I mean "Mike cancelled it because he thought a picture in the liner notes was slightly unflattering" and "Al postponed it because he wanted to redub the aeroplane on Loop De Loop"
59  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Mike Love single on: May 02, 2020, 04:43:41 AM
Why is anyone surprised this is the biggest pile of stinky $#it ever released, it's Mike Love. It's all he's capable of doing. Brian was, and is, the genius of the Beach Boys. I don't doubt he is using this time off to work on a freaking masterpiece that is going to blow us all away, and remind the world once again that Brian Wilson is a f****ing genius!

Based on his recent track-record, I somehow doubt Brian is about to release a masterpiece. But who knows, maybe he is on the phone to Joe Thomas right now asking him if he has any of the old 90s riffs still in a briefcase that they haven't used yet.

It seems the music video is a differenet mix - at the very least the "Fun, fun, fun in the sun" backing vocals are more prominent.
61  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys “Reunion” on Saturday? on: April 25, 2020, 02:58:54 AM
Seems scammy and like nothing happened?

Unless you are in the future, that's probably because nothing has happened yet? It still 12 hours or so away until the broadcast starts.
62  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What happened to Sensitive Music for Sensitive People? on: April 19, 2020, 12:37:40 PM
Was I the only person who thought that this album was the title of the rock and roll album? I thought Brian said that in an interview but could be wrong.

That was my impression also.
63  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Feel Flows box set on: April 18, 2020, 03:54:42 AM
So why post it on YouTube at this particular time?

They've been posting snippets of Brian Wilson interviews about specific songs for the last two weeks. They've been all over the place in terms of timeline, early 1960s to 1970s. I wouldn't read too much into it. It's just the content machine churning out material for clicks.

Aren't they just from that Warmth of The Sun comp tie in podcast from 2007?
64  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys 2020 Tour Thread on: March 29, 2020, 09:57:44 AM
I’ll be self-isolating from that.  Grin

Ditto...as best as I can tell, Mike and Bruce don't have any shows until July now with cancellations etc. Unless I'm missing some?

The London gig in June hasn't been cancelled yet (or if it has, they haven't told me). It will not doubt be cancelled soon though. For one thing, its at a hospital for army pensioners....
65  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian to tour UK on: March 10, 2020, 11:57:28 AM
Wasn’t his tour last year supposed to be his final tour of Europe ?

He didn't tour Europe last year.
66  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian to tour UK on: March 02, 2020, 12:55:43 PM
Wow...that's a lot. Also interesting that they'll be touring the UK at the same time as M&B...

The M&B UK "tour" is just one show at a festival, so its not exactly a massive clash.
67  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Feel Flows box set on: February 15, 2020, 08:26:53 AM
There are the rumours that Al has been listening to some on the tour bus...
68  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love and his band to perform on Mike Huckabee TV special. on: February 15, 2020, 08:24:40 AM
So do people have any actual facts when they are saying Mike controls the Facebook page, because I'm guessing they don't?

Much like the Twitter page (with which the contents is nearly always identical), it is almost certainly just someone at Universal. It shares posts from Brian. It shares posts from Mike. It shares posts from Al. It posts Universal Music articles. It posts links to songs.

It's clearly not just Mike sitting on his sofa in his underwear.

Just because you don't like it it doesn't mean Mike is behind it.
69  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: ATTENTION ALL VINYL LP COLLECTORS !! on: February 10, 2020, 12:32:35 PM
Is vinyl actually selling more than CDs in the US? Despite all the headlines in the UK about how vinyl is massively outselling CDs, the actual figures in the UK last year was 4.3m vinyl to 23.5m CDs.

I can't find the US figures for 2019, but this article from midway through 2019 talks about vinyl sales "overtaking" CDs, but it means in value rather than numbers - for the first half of the year 8.6 million records to 18.6 million CDs https://www.digitalmusicnews.com/2019/09/08/vinyl-overtake-cd-sales/

Just found out that Brian and co will be playing at the annual "Family Gras" in suburban New Orleans on February 15. They will be doing a Greatest Hits show.
The Mike/Bruce Beach Boys have played this in the past.

Thanks for the heads-up. I've added this to the schedule near the top of the thread. Not sure why this gig is flying so far under the radar. Hadn't heard about it, and it's not on Brian's website from what I can tell.
Maybe Brian and co. will be getting a lot of the gigs that Mike and Bruce used to do. That is, if the fallout from the safari gig is as big as it appears to be.

Or... 99% of the typical Mike show audience either didn't know or didn't care or will have forgotten about the safari stuff by, say, March 1st.
71  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Important Info For Those Who Signed Petition at change.org on: February 07, 2020, 02:42:24 PM
Have also reported this to Change. I don't see how anyone is meant to trust a petition on there if they do allow this sort of thing to happen without impediment.
72  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Please sign petition for Beach Boys to withdraw from performing on 2/5/20 on: February 04, 2020, 10:20:29 AM
Ignoring everything else, Brian('s PR people) have played a blinder here

There was always a risk this story blows up without him mentioning it, and then the headlines would be about the Beach Boys, and people less informed may think that includes Brian, etc.. But with Brian intervening, the headlines are about Brian being against it, and so isolating him from any backlash. It's a perfectly executed attempt to get ahead of the story.
73  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Are The Beach Boys letting their fans down with digital only archival releases on: January 24, 2020, 01:50:11 PM
While vaguely on the topic of physical media, I find it interesting that while there is constant talk and articles about the vinyl revival and vinyl sales increasing while CD sales decline, CDs still outsell them substantially, at least in the UK. https://www.superdeluxeedition.com/feature/saturday-deluxe-18-january-2020/
74  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson 2020 Live Thread on: January 19, 2020, 03:50:32 AM
I’ve said it before, leave the pre show interviews to Al. Listening to that interview I doubt anyone would have been persuaded to go out and buy a ticket.
Or else coach the interviewer on how to handle Brian and what to expect from him.  It is possible to get a great interview out of him, but it has to be done the right way.
"Don't ask any questions that require more than one word answers"?

My highlight was this exchange (based off memory, words may be slightly different)
"what does your wife mean to you"
"well she inspires me to write music"
"are you still writing to this day""
"no I haven't written for a couple of years"
75  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Unleash The Love - Liner Notes - Jeff Franklin- Kinda Odd on: January 12, 2020, 02:54:11 PM
It is not beyond the realms of possibilites that he has owned multiple properties (e.g. he owned this one at one point as well https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/full-house-creator-lists-30m-741572)

But even if not, its a different house, with a different address and a lot of land around it (to quote Jeff,  "What I fell in love with here was the setting, the view, the privacy and the amount of flat land"). Unless Jeff also installed big signs everywhere saying "MANSON MURDERS HAPPENED HERE!" then I'm not sure how a non-aficionado is meant to know.
