Just today, on my way to library, I stopped by my local used record store and bought two, cool records that may be of interest to folks here. I found a very nice copy of Beach Boys, Party! that still had the photo cutout sheet insert, and a signed and numbered copy of Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin. Pretty excited about that.

I know I was surprised the first time I watched 1975's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest to see Danny Devito and Christopher Lloyd Hey, me too! Isn't it fantastic? They played respective characters really well. Btw, the film credits Michael Douglas as producer. Is there any actor who didn't play in film but produced it (directing doesn't count)? Nothing overly surprising except that Christopher Lloyd has several TV production credits, must notably Frasier. That's a different Christopher Lloyd. Check IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0515941/?ref_=ttfc_fc_wr11Well, color me surprised. I've been wrong for a quarter century now. I was in the same boat. I finally realized it was a different guy when I happened to see that he won an Emmy for Modern Family and saw his picture. Doc Brown isn't quite as talented as I once believed.

I was pleasantly surprised to see him sign an extension in Cleveland. He's gotten a lot of flack over the years, but I respect his recent efforts to dispel negative stereotypes about mental illness and appreciate that he wanted to stay in Cleveland. At least it won't be too painful to watch the Cavs in the wake of LeBron leaving again.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A Bizarre Retrospective on Friends

I found the last three paragraphs to be particularly strange, especially the parts I put in boldface. If Pet Sounds was the introduction to a tormented genius, Friends became a segue for Wilson to pour out an even bigger range of emotions. Due to the instrumental similarities between the two projects, people did not react to Friends with as much praise unfortunately. In a way, fans just kind of expected this from him it seemed like.
Eventually, the tour for the record failed miserably, and Friends flew under the radar. Even to this day, if you ask any mild Beach Boys fan about the 1968 release, most if not all would say they don’t remember it.
Unsurprisingly, Pet Sounds became a more successful body of work because it was ultimately sad. And people love sad music. Heck, sir Paul Mccartney said he still cries when he hears the song, “God Only Knows.” On the other hand, the lasting legacy of Friends ironically developed into a shrug for listeners. No one knows about it, but the record was just as inventive and forward-thinking as Pet Sounds. As an accomplished musician dealing with a drug problem, Wilson became an instant legend in the latter part of the 60s. And many were lucky to witness his magic at the time.
So Pet Sounds is a masterpiece because it's sad?

Gettin Hungry, I hope you can make both shows, so you don't have to choose.
Our show in Atlanta is going to be GH, but if I could hear "Wild Honey," "This Whole World," and "Feel Flows" performed in the same show, I'd be a very happy camper.
Short of starting a GoFundMe page for the two shows, I'll only be able to pick. They are just too close together to swing both. If I had an idea of what non-Christmas songs were to be included, I'd have an easier time deciding. We'll see.

It's great to hear that Brian's back is better after surgery. I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to see the Christmas tour, which is playing locally, or drive three hours to Windsor to see the last (rescheduled) Pet Sounds show. I know everyone is tired of the Pet Sounds tour, but I missed my previous chances to see it.

This week I finally got around to seeing The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Both were quite good, though the general plot of The Shape of Water was a bit predictable. Great set design and special effects carry it past that one drawback. I really liked Three Billboards. I'm a sucker for dark comedy.

Since my team is out, I think I'm throwing my support behind Vegas, even though the idea of hockey in the desert is absurd. Crazy how well they've done this year. Fleury has been great in net, and Karlsson has been a dynamo. And their pregrame ceremonies are ridiculous. They leaned hard into the Vegas glitz and theatrics.
