Don't read the thread. We were told it was definitely a flute. Now it might be an oboe. Someone else thinks its strings. Some of us are obviously interested in trying to pin down exactly what is on the track. Why do people keep jumping into threads they've got no interest in..? I'm minded of a thread some years ago where a poster insisted that there was a few seconds of the original "God Only Knows" used in the video of Brian's rerecording for the Target CD. That thread went well past the point of screaming insanity too.
Because, originally, someone was 90% certain it was vocals, and when that was proven not to be the case, someone else claimed it was some instrument that's not actually on the overdub or AFM sheet.

You wonder if anyone ever called Steve the"Lovestar?" How about the Manager who made each of the, broke, Beach Boys Millions in Investments... does that QUALIFY as Lovestar? Rocky, there's another thread on this board where people are speculating about why Mike had to file for bankruptcy in the early 1980s, which was also around the time the band really dug deep into performing any controversial show for money (like playing South Africa in 1981 during the heart of Apartheid, and Mike speaking the infamous quote which I'm paraphrasing "the UN can screw themselves... it's [the gig is] good money")... I think these events were not long after Steve was removed from his position in the band, and if Steve being present was good for the Boys financially, it seems to make sense that that Steve's removal coincided with the band members - especially Mike - being broke and really needing money. The Beach Boys made the boneheaded blunder of a lifetime when they fired Stephen, for not sending me home for punching out Carl, at the beginning of 1978! He had resurrected their floundering careers, in his nine year tenure, and as you just stated within a few years they were no longer financially solvent... ie; filing BANKRUPTCY! Even after Stephen had made them millions touring, investment wise, and a two million dollar advance from CBS records for his Brian's Back campaign! These guys are their OWN WORST ENEMY! Look what Mike did to Brian? Um... the "Brian's Back" campaign was two years earlier, at Reprise. Nothing to do with CBS. Oh, wait... that's "poetic licence" again, isn't it ? "doe doe"... once again your WRONG lunk head! One of the MORE SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS Stephen accomplished was negotiating a Recording Contract with Walter Yetnikof and CBS Records, under the slogan of "Brian's Back", where Stephen got the Beach Boys a TWO MILLION DOLLAR ADVANCE! To which Walter, later said... I THINK I HAVE BEEN FU*KED! And upon signing the contract... Brian cried! Ask Steve when the "Brian's Back" campaign was, and he'll tell you 1976. There's a pic of a "BB" sticker in David Leaf's book about Brian which was written before MIU was released, proving once more you don't know what you're talking about. As for Brian crying when he signed a contract, that was the deal with Reprise in 1970.

Al's story about recording Come Go With Me with Brian coming down in his robe, does that add up chronologically? Was the home studio still around for when CGWM was first recorded?
In a much earlier interview, late 70s I think, Alan stated that they rented a mobile unit at Brian's house, but only he showed up to use it, so he pleased himself. No mention of Brian showing up.

Threads are definitely a very laborious way of discussing this type of thing. Sat round a table and armed with audio it would be much quicker to resolve. I think we had enough of this! Let's get back to Rocky topic Or you could believe the leading sessions researcher, who has listened to the discrete tracks.

Not on the pad/backing track..? I haven't got my box set so I can't check - if you've checked the backing track and they aren't there then just say so. I'm not saying I can hear them play a melody there. You may hear vibes. That doesn't alter the fact that they're simply not there.
Of course there are vibes on the basic track... but, as Craig has pointed out so many times, not on the overdub you're talking about. He's told you what it is. The only problem is, he's not telling you what you want to hear, so you're running it into the ground. Bottom line ? Doesn't matter. It being vibes won't cure cancer or bring back 30-odd Belgiansi from the dead.

The Rockster's ludicrous claim is refuted by the very first line of the song: "I was sitting in a crummy movie..." The original Star Wars was, and remains, anything but crummy. I'd imagine that Brian's child-like wonder at, oh, pretty much everything woudl have been engaged from the opening seconds. Thus, didn't happen.

It wasn't until after I'd chosen my email address as bellagio@... that I realised there even was a Bellagio hotel in Vegas (that's the link: tenuous, innit ?), because for about 18 months thereafter I used to get room enquiries and bookings on a weekly basis. Amusing... for maybe a month.
You must excuse young Manning. He's from the northern territories, where the art of accurate temporal calculation is, as yet, undeveloped.

I wonder if, to mark the tenth anniversary of the 30th anniversary, there'll be a traditional 12-month delay while Mike rewrites the liner notes? That would be the 20th anniversary of the 30th, actually, but your basic premise holds true (although the answer is "no").
