And I never realized that Adam Goldberg was in Dazed and Confused...I'd always known him as the Hebrew Hammer!!!

I heard it this weekend, it's the real deal....

I listened to the stream and saw some clips on TV...it really looks good. I'm a little biased though, I used to live down the street from Stipe when I was in school in Athens. They've been one of my favorite bands since I was in middle school (33 now).

Alright everybody, the submissions have started rolling in and I must say that I am very impressed with the quality of the first 2 submissions. We've got some players on this board.
5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / I a=have a Van Dyke Parks question.... on: October 22, 2009, 01:13:56 PM
According to his website, he played accordian on Kokomo. I was under the impression that his only link to the BB's was thru Brian but Brian wasn't involved in Kokomo. I wonder how he ended up on the track?

on an unrelated note, I just found a vinyl copy of his Tokyo Rose album at a local store for $3, it's actually really good!
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A little plug for my Beach Boys special coming up on: October 21, 2009, 11:59:20 AM
Sounds cool, I've got the house to myself tonight so I'm gonna try and tune-in.

What does everyone think about pushing the deadline back a month to the end of November. I'm not really happy with what I have so far and I dont think I'm gonna have time for the fixes. I havent received any submissions yet so I'm guessing everyone is in the same boat. Thoughts?

10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: RECORDING INFO on: October 08, 2009, 10:55:07 AM
Things are moving fast. From the NY Times:

"A representative for Mr. Wilson said he would begin recording with his band on Oct. 18 and finish after Thanksgiving. In a statement, Mr. Wilson called the album “the most spiritual project I’ve ever worked on.”

Tour starts October 22, finishes November 13. I think someone in Brian's organisation needs to check with the tour manager before saying stuff like this.  Grin

Now THAT is funny....

I wonder what the albums will be titled?

Rhapsody in Bloo ? Roll Eyes

Ouch.....  Cheesy Cheesy
I'd go for "Sum-sum-summertime"

Seriously, the more I think about it, the more it really is exciting. I'd expected a totally different thing, but this could become something really great and important to Brian's musical legacy

Oh yeah... 'Summertime' has those alternating minor, bluesy scales and uplifting major parts. It would ideally suit Brian's approach. Think a bit of 'Walk On By', for instance... the stuff of dreams.

Summertime is a great song.....alright, you're talking me into it here...

Am I honestly the only one who feels underwhelmed from the big announcement. To me it just seems that the BW camp had built up a little momentum with his TLOS. Gershwin and Disney  just sounds a little dated to me. I'm sure both the albums will be nice listening experiences but......meh. Rant off.

Gershwin? Dated? Did you take peyote?

You're right, I just called my mom and she said that Gershwin is in no way dated, my bad.  Wink

Nothing wrote with dated really, I mean BW's most successful solo album was 37 years old before it event got rerecorded.  Dated works with BW.

Very true but that was original material.  I know that the Gershwin material holds a special place in Brians heart so that is reason enough for the album. I guess that it's just that the world already has so many Gershwin tribute projects and dont even get me started on Disney tribute albums . Anyways, just sharing my opinion, I guess I should hold off on crticism before actually hearing it. Thanks for participating in the debate.

I sadly don't have the vinyl, I live in 2009.

 Tongue Kidding.

I'm still thinking about getting one.

I tell ya, I was in the same situation till I went to a buddies house and listened to some albums on vinyl that I had previously only heard on CD. There really is a noticeable difference in sound. I started putting my own system together right after.

I havent purchased the vinyl version yet but am planning to, hows it sound? I just noticed that newburycomics.com is advertising the 180g vinyl with a TLOS pint glass for $19.99 sounds like a deal. Anyone seen this glass before?

From BW Admin:
"Hi Mark and everyone guessing about today's announcement: This is news about the here and now and it's quite exciting. The only thing we can say is that there's no looking back on this one. We'll have it up as soon as we get the good word ..."

Hmm....

Guess that takes a reunion out of the equation....Sounds like a new album, I'm cool with that.

20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What do YOU think the Train and Barking Dogs mean? on: October 06, 2009, 06:52:07 AM
I seem to remember reading somewhere that Brian had once said something about "the train carrying away his innocence".

I always sorta thought it had to do with growing up/leaving home.

That sucks man. Hopefully they'll be ok.

I Havent even tried to power on the head yet, just letting it dry out. My room was the only one that had any damage luckily. I had most everything up off the floor but I forgot about the head, it's just an old Peavey that I used in a college band so it's not a huge loss. We were lucky compared to our neighbors.

I've got my guitar track done and thats about it, we had some flooding here in Atlanta and I have been cleaning mud out of my music room for a week. My bass amp and cabinet were hit pretty hard, not sure if they will be salvageable yet or not. I'm going to try and press on as soon as I can.
