Sounds killer Bubba.   CSN&Y were probably the biggest band to lay down radio-friendly songs with protesting undertones.   Supposedly, that sort of thing is becoming "buzz" lately, kicked off by Green Day's American Idiot...but much kudos is owed to CSN&Y in that respect.  And man, I've seen them too.  They ARE LOUD!
27  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Beatles Remasters? on: August 23, 2006, 03:28:09 PM
Well, with those groups you mentioned in your list of folks who have remixed, they are still alive and have the most control over the songs.   I'm sure Macca wouldn't mind giving it a shot...but you know how The Martian is.  Probably she'd send one of her wide eyed oddball space cadets with countless obscure lawyers and stop it ever from happening.  Not just that, Little Boy Blew still owns the songs from what I understand.

I wanna hold your HRRRRRRRN! Evil

 LOL They had more electricity.

So that's what he meant?  Wonder if he caught himself a split second later thinking "Damn Landy pills!" and covered it with "They had more electricity".

That was  first interview I ever saw with BW and after hearing GOK on that, I went and got Pet Sounds a few days later.   So...I suppose, for me, it's a damn good interview.

Haha, love the History Of Rock & Roll video!  Need to get that DVD!

"Tripping" has some really strong performances, but they were recorded with that late 80's HORRIBLE digital technology that gave it a real "weak punch" feel to the sound.   I hated that era when it came to music from all genres.  A lot of great songs were given a very one-dimensional sound where it sounded like it was all recorded by the same exact engineer.   A lot of great songs suffered.

Now Flowers In The Dirt being a shyte album...I'd say that's being kind.   But hell, the man's put out a ton of albums since 1970.  A few are bound to be duds.

He needs to write a new song.  Such as "Stumpie's Locked Out Of The House".  LOL

Aw, come on, I know it's not nice.  So what?  She's trying to take Macca's ass.  That's a lot worse than little ol' me flapping my gums.
35  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Beatles Remasters? on: August 13, 2006, 06:39:15 PM
Neil Aspinall said there was going to be some remastering, but usually that means an attempt to "clean up" the sound.  "Remix" is what would be interesting.  Pick up their 1999 re-release of Yellow Submarine with remixed songs.  They sound GREAT.  I wish they'd do that with all the Beatles albums because the stereo on the Beatles catalog is so separated.  I can understand why George Harrison said that The Beatles in stereo sounded "very naked" because I think Martin & Co. were just in a hurry to slap together a stereo version for the albums and work on the more standard mono of the time.

"Seasons" is a GREAT fast metal album.   From War Ensemble to the title track, f**king immaculate.  "Divine" disappointed me big time.

Am I too late to tell everyone to chew on this one for a while?

The Who has always had horrible bands open for them.  I think it's some type of joke from Townshend.

Yeah, I saw them open up for their Quadrophenia tour that year in Milwaukee....HORRIBLE.
39  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: NEIL YOUNG - LIVING WITH WAR on: June 07, 2006, 12:42:26 PM
It's not a bad batch of tunes.  Isn't his greatest, but it isn't his worst...and he has a handful of those, which is prone to happen with a 40 year career.

I'm very interested by politics and partisanship from the sidelines as well.  Usually I'm a grand crap-talker, but I think I'll sit this one out.

All I know is that the frustration and anger is well justified.  Also makes for some great albums.
40  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: New "The Who" album to be released in September 06 on: June 07, 2006, 12:33:47 PM
Anything out of Pete's mouth should be taken with a grain of salt.   Until it's on store shelves, his word is about as reliable as Geraldo's digging for a vault.

Don't get me wrong, I love Townshend's work, but he is a kidder bullshyter quite a bit and says things just to get people off his back with any random canned answer he can throw together in his head just to get the question answered.
41  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Soul Asylum on: June 07, 2006, 12:31:18 PM
I'm still partial to Grave Dancers Union and that one with "Misery" on it.   Not to mention Pirner's appearance on Mike Watt's Ballhog or Tugboat album...whatcha gonna tell 'em boy?
42  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Monkees 2CD reissues on: June 07, 2006, 12:25:49 PM
The late 90's reissues were quite a treat because I could never get my hands on some Missing Links CDs, although I've heard the tracks on those now from Napster and Tunebited those babies into WAV files from 192KPS WMA's...POINT BEING, the sound wasn't that impressive.

It was nice to hear some of the PAC&J stuff on their "alternate takes" which are just the originals without sound effect/Moog overdubs.

Also, live Monkees recordings were horrible...yes, even that box set of 4 different shows although much better than their Live 1967 CD which shouldn't have even been released.

So yeah, their whole catalog could use a true revamping.  Now even The Beatles are doing mono/stereo reissues with much better remastering...that said, I'd say the Monkees could do it as well.

What grinds my ass though is that the Stones with their great new re-packaging on their ABKCO/London releases, there isn't really any new meat and potatoes.  Go figure...Alan Klien's in the mix and probably has some stipulation that nothing can be changed without checking in with every BAR association on the planet first.

Remember...he has a meeting on Saturday!  It can't wait, I tell you.  You're stalling.

As for Marcia, yeah, I wouldn't mind having my way with her across that grass.   She should have been Stifler's mom instead of that Best In Show chick.  Oh well...can't disrupt that Best In Show/Mighty Wind/American Pie clique.

Alright, I'm getting way off topic.

Bah!  Sucks I'm at work!  I'll have to remember to get on my PC when I get home and check this out.

Kinda hard to remember since my PC has about an inch of dust on it from non-usage.

Come on, the last thing you want to see is a computer when you get home after being in front of one 10 hours a day.
44  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Is this for real?! on: June 07, 2006, 11:33:06 AM
It's a "grace slick".   Another singer in a band full of guys.

Things WILL happen prior to shows, you know.

At any rate, after reading various articles from the group and seeing many viewpoints, I've come to this conclusion...The Beach Boys are mainly talented and lucky white trash.

All this back and forth "I wrote that song, bla bla bla" and "Mike's an egotistical maniac, bla bla bla" is nothing more than typical family yapping with a lot of money at their disposal.

If they didn't have all that money, they'd use their fists and ballbats instead of lawyers.   No question they'd all move next to each other because anything outside of their family compound would startle them.
45  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's new collaborator on: June 07, 2006, 10:38:27 AM
Ugh god...I hear you about Imagination and Joe Thomas' production.

For one thing, the whole album sounds very childish...like a Phil Spector production on some music box noise.  Brian's already stunted enough from medications and other factors in the personable sense.  I don't know...we shouldn't have been too surprised.  The guy (Thomas) had a mullet in anti-redneck 1998 for crying out loud.

And it seems like anyone who's worked with Brian usually disappears quickly on bad terms sooner or later.   I don't know how anyone would be able to work along with the "politics" - for lack of a better description - that involves the Brian Camp and keep a straight head.

Just throw him Darian and call it done.   He's the best candidate and has proven himself highly worthy of hovering in both  Brian-Spaceland and the real world.

Superman and The Omen is bad enough.

Please, for the love of God!
47  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: "Surf's Up" & America on: June 07, 2006, 10:27:58 AM
Smile...an "Americana" album...yeah, right.

Maybe in certain sections and by P.R. babblers who are trying to give it a definition consumable by the public.   No one will ever say, "Brian and fellow pothead Parks wanted to make a bunch of songs in the manner of Good Vibrations but kookie lyrics and stop/go melodies, which they did work very hard and fast on."

To me, it sounds like lots of pot smoking with a lot of musicians and money at ones disposal to make a weird compilation of lyrical imagery and strange flows to pull themselves away from the surf rock and also to keep up with the creative period of music that was just about to plateau in 1967.

Surf's Up is a very great song; probably my fave of Brian's.

I think BW is a big bull-shyter at times.  He likes feeding it just for laughs.

After all, he is just a songwriter and one of the best.  It's not like he's making laws or something.

No way in hell he spent 3 years in the sack.  It's probably just another one of his stories told by others and himself to keep the ball rolling for his own amusement...which I know I would do if I were that famous.

Ever meet someone famous?  Most of them are bull-shiites to the CORE just for the plain fact they get a kick out of it and really there's no harm done.

My brother's in the 101st Airborne out of Ft. Campbell, KY; served to tours in you-know-where so far. He loves his "company", the people in it and all that stuff, but as far as the "current sensitive situation" is completely against it.  Point being, choose wisely.  Depends on where they stick you, what it's for, where the region may be and that is a shot in the dark.
50  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Folks, help! I can't stop listening to Foreigner! on: April 12, 2006, 03:13:48 PM
Donald, it's over now.  I wrote that a week or two ago.  After a couple of spins of Double Vision and Head Games, I think I can go another 20 years without hearing them again.  It was probably for purposes of what I listened to when I was a kid; say around 3rd grade.

Nah man, no electrodes or drugs.  Not my thing.
