I love the song "Dennis" is playing to Karen, which was written especially for the movie. It is just beautiful and I really could see Dennis writing something like this.

I hear shades of "Holy Man" in that snippet. Part of the verse, part of the "and you can follow" chorus.

“The Beach Boys Live In Sacramento 1964” also released.

That's been booted heaps but is this the first official release?

The song rules! It's classic Dennis and with amazing 1971 production values. Who is on drums? Dennis or Kowalski - the drums are awesome!
It definitely would've made Surf's Up a better album. Take A Load Off Your Feet (especially) and Student Demonstration Time don't fit too well for me. I don't really dig Disney Girls either - Bruce is a bit too twee/naff/square for me. Sometimes I have time for it though.

Although this isn't accurate at all - I've been listening this as a possible first album from DW.

29  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Would Dennis have been a good frontman? on: May 28, 2013, 06:11:10 PM
Dennis fronting his own band on a Pacific Ocean Blue tour would've worked. Even if he just stood there and sang into the mic (like when he would do "You are so beautiful") or singing from behind the piano - that woulda been a spectacle. He wouldn't have been a camp or showy front man (like love, jagger or mercury), I think crowds would have accepted him on the basis of just being a strong presence.

I'm not usually a guy to buy a different copy of an album if I already own it but the other day I was listening on my headphones to C&TP straight after playing a Frank Zappa album from the same time period and the difference in sound quality was like night and day. The Beach Boys album sounded so quiet and muffled by comparison. A nicely remastered C&TP and also Holland (which is very murky in places) is something I'd very much want to own.
If you think the remastered CATP is quiet and muffled, then you ought to hear the Epic/Caribou CD release, or even worse, the original Brother/Reprise LP. It's just a bad sounding album.

I love the sound of this album. It's amazing!

Good listening for the first 9 tracks.

Surely BB fans who like Daft Punk would also like the disco version of Here Comes The Night. If you don't - you may be lying to yourselves.
34  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Video: Carl explains his behavior. Press Conference, Perth 1978 on: January 21, 2013, 04:30:34 PM
The clip at the airport and of the press conference were aired on Saturday (Jan 19) at about 9:30am here in Australia. A friend txted me to tune to ABC but I missed the good bits and only managed to catch the film clip to Getcha Back (entertaining in another way) which followed the press conference . Glad someone uploaded it!

Kevin Barnes (Of Montreal) does a splendid cover of "Little Bird"!

Stephen Kalinich has commented on this video.

Thank you Kevin for recording this.It was the first song I wrote with Dennis and came out in 1968 on the FRiends album. There ar some lyrics left out for the Beach Boys version that are in my original version. I love this song. As i heard you and watched the video it brought back the day i wrote the lyric and left it on the piano for Dennis to set to music. It was afternoon on Sunset Blvd. A grand day and i love dennis and miss him in the flesh. This song was a blessing for me. stevie kalinich

I am almost 71 now and still very active and writing every day but it is not every day i get an opportunity like this.

37  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: Show 72: Burswood Dome - Perth, AU 9/6/2012 on: September 11, 2012, 02:45:01 AM
Mike was great as the MC of the night. I really appreciated his presence. Plus his voice was stronger than I thought it would be from some of the stuff I've seen on youtube.
Brian sang a lot better than I expected. I am not a fan his voice of recent decades but even though he looked like he was asleep he definitely put some effort in with his singing and actually surprised me with his ability.
Bruce sang really good. I find his cheese-ball songs embarrassing but he absolutely nailed Disney Girls. Those high notes at the end were flawless.
It was so cool to hear David playing those surf solos. He played them awesomely. His guitar tone for most of the set was perfect. It seemed to get a bit cheesy toward the end of the show. Too much drive. Not enough surf.
Al sang really well too.

Great show.

Man - If only he toured to support Pacific Ocean Blue. That would've been vital in establishing himself outside of The Beach Boys.  I wish this happened and I wish I had a dvd of the tour 3D

Sorry, but I just have to be annoying and point out that Sail On, Sailor was recorded in California.

Oh yes, right, I forgot. But you're wrong about one thing: I'm NOT annoyed. Grin

Maybe they could just do a 12 second medley of songs from KTSA, BB85, Still Cruisin', SIP and Stars and Stripes.

Thanks! I guess the Syd Barret reference is directed at the general spookiness of it all?

So very cool to see this! I feel like this album never gets a mention anywhere (outside of places like this). #2 Coolest Summer Album. Wow!
Man I want to hear it in stereo.

yeah I always hear that as "Soulful old man shine shine, shine your light.... "
But then it maybe sounds a lil creepy.

Stereo Smiley Smile is going to blow my mind!!!
I am hopeful for an eventual stereo Wild Honey. That will also blow my mind!
47  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Perth Concert on: July 05, 2012, 05:54:07 AM
I'm flying solo for this one! My friends are fond of The Beach Boys but since we are all poor students, none of them could really afford to tag along to this one. Usually I struggle to get even a twenty together to see local bands, I'm only able to this show as it's my eighteenth birthday present LOL

Off topic... but you should get 20 of your friends to go see my band Thee Gold Blooms play around Perth Grin. We bust out early Beach Boys surf instrumental 'Stoked' (our only cover) and play general dirty 60s garage rock.  Smokin

Interestingly Chaos.com (an Aussie based online store) has the Twofers available for pre-order with a release date July 6, 2012. Are these new pressings of the old twofers? Does this mean we won't get those Japanese versions here? Or does it mean nothing at all?

http://www.chaos.com/search?q=BEACH+BOYS&t=all

Why would you think these are the new pressings?  The new pressings don't have two different albums on each disc, but the stereo and mono mixes of an album.

Sorry if there was confusion. I never assumed these were the brand news 2012 remasters.... I said "are these new pressings of the old twofers". I'm assuming they've printed up a new run of the old two-fers (due to there being a pre-order date). The alternative is that these are old-stock.
