2651  Smiley Smile Stuff / 21st Century Beach Boys Albums / Re: Good Timin': Live At Knebworth 1980 on: December 27, 2005, 11:40:47 AM
reminds me a lot of the band I saw so many times through the 80's only with all 6 there at once.

a real treat when it arrived...great to have in the home archive......some of it doesn't hold up to repeated listening.... there are enough solid gems in there to edit it down to a good single disc for repeated listening...

I'd go right out and buy Hawthorne 2 if it were released

A very tired looking Jimi Hendrix around 68 or 69.  I was just a kid maybe expecting too much.
I was very disappointed.

I heard, probably on the extra stuff and interviews on the Anniversary Easy Rider DVD, that Spector got the part because the movie was on a shoestring budget and they needed a Rolls or similar car for the dealer...and Spector happened to have a Rolls

A tough question.  As I've said here before, The Who.  Spring of 1970.  Cincinatti Music Hall.
Pretty much the same show as Live at Leeds, the complete version including Tommy.

This had to be the Who at it's peak.  All 4 original members on what had to be a good night, putting out 110 %.

And this following a not to be followed warm up act of the original James Gang playing to Joe Walsh's  home town Ohio crowd.

Pete windmilling the guitar and leaping into the air, Roger roping the audience with the mic cord, Keith thrashing his drum kit tossing sticks in the air, catching them and resuming without missing a beat...and John stretching out on the bass...

The venue was much like an opera house with balconies and carpeting...adding to the total effect of Tommy...we could have floated home that night but decided to take the car as we might need it in the morning....

There was a feeling of oneness with the band....there was a rumor that the band would visit a local bar called Ludlows garage to hang out withthe fans....Pete told the audience during a break that there was a rumor they would be at Ludlows but that unfortunately  it wouldn't be possible due to their flight leaving right after the show...But Joe Walsh and Company were planning to appear..

2659  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1980's Beach Boys Albums / Re: The Beach Boys on: December 27, 2005, 09:54:46 AM
I don't listen to it often these days.  But in the 80's, and even into 90's I listened to it occasionally.  I like about half of it.  The Carl stuff was good.  I do believe one could make a not great, but decent album, combining 85 with KTSA.

Or take those good CW songs and put them with the best stuff from CW and Youngblood for a very nice Carl in the 80's LP.  I think THAT is the way to go.

And I agree that the production could have been improved significantly.  Even the much maligned MIU album sounded better in that respect.
2660  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The Byrds on: December 27, 2005, 09:41:23 AM
Love the Byrds.  The first few albums are great, but the albums beginning with Younger than Yesterday are even BETTER.  YTY is my favorite, hands down.  And I own and listen frequently to everything from YTY through Byrdmaniax, Dr Byrds, and Farther Along.   Love the solo stuff as well.

Is there anyone out there that is as nuts on the Untitled version of  Lover of the Bayou as I am?

That Untitled Live stuff was just about as good as it gets.  What in the hell were they on when they live recorded Eight Miles High for that album???
2661  Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / Re: Suggestions and comments about the board on: December 27, 2005, 07:57:12 AM
My first post.   Congratulations and thanks Chuck. A very different looking message board format.  At first glance, looks to be a very well organized layout, with a lot of options. Smiley
