I have also thought of them as the likes of the Basie band.   It could go on in that fashion.  If they keep a dozen or so of the current members of both bands.  Call it the Pet Sounds Orchestra

I tried to respond to RubberSoul13 but my response got lost in the middle of his quote.  Saw Brian on election night?  Band as great as ever.  Blondie and Al delightful, BW son in law sang nicely.  Brian looks and sounded tired.  Behavior much as described by RS13.  Missed lyrics, tired out after a few songs.  Limping on and off stage with two assistants.  Wearing a full length leg brace.  I feel like Brian is once again being "handled" and would rather be home watching tv and eating a sandwich.   I think the time has come for him to sit and watch the sun set on this beautiful day.

Pleasant surprises and slight demises at the Kennedy Center this evening. I was delighted to find that a 12-piece accumulation of the NSO was present for the concert this evening. They added SO much more than the other two Pet Sounds shows I've seen. "Feel Flows" was a pleasant surprise. Al Jardine remembering me at the lip of the stage from the club gig in March was a huge surprise. Brian's physicality was an unpleasant surprise and begins the demise. I actually gasped out loud completely by shock reaction when I saw him. His face is so pale and sunken in and his legs are so thin. He walked out like an unsteady Grizzly Bear using it's hind legs. I was very concerned. Now, for the first ten songs, he was really into it. I saw and HEARD him playing more than I ever have. He was singing really beautiful high harmonies on "Feel Flows". Cool stuff. He would look up at the large concert hall after every song with a unique sparkle of astonishment at the place. Then as "Sail on Sailor" begin, he was gone. His hands were at his sides and he sang minimally.

I saw them election night in an old performing arts center.  Last shows I saw Brian would have been Jeff Beck and C50.  RS13, you are spot on in your review and observations.  Musically and vocally, the show was spot on.  Except for Brian. Did ok for the first part of the show then ran out of steam, left out lyrics frequently, and looked very tired, and physically nearly unable to tour like he does.  Like many on this board, I've been a rabid fans of all things Beachboys for decades.   And I still am.  But I left the show thinking that Brian, well, to put it nicely, is still being "handled" and pushed to stay on the road.  I think he would rather be at home, eating a sandwich and watching TV.  I felt for him.  I would like to see him enjoy his remaining years in comfort.
This was undoubtedly the best I had heard an ensemble perform Pet Sounds however, it was probably the worst I've seen Brian perform it. Contrary to other posters, I don't think he sang poorly. The problem was that he didn't sing. He didn't try to sing...so many times. He missed entire verses and choruses of YSBIM, Sloop, GOK (he sang the first two verses and slumped after that), IJWMFTT, and Caroline No. About half the songs on the record he botched vocally, simply by not participating. Then, poor Alan, or Darian, or the new guy who seems skittish as a damn chihuahua up there and is nowhere near as powerful a vocalist as Matt Jardine (or Foskett for that matter...and I can't stand the guy)...well, they would have to scramble which created an equally sloppy sound to catch the missing line in the song. I don't what the answer is. Brian is clearly disinterested with Pet Sounds and it concerns me that it's still being drug out and about. I'll be curious to hear if his demeanor changes for the Christmas shows. Also, there was no intermission or encore (likely to avoid moving too much) but when it was time to leave the stage, it was a massive struggle. He could not lift his own weight. His legs wobbled like crazy and his knees sank several times. It was truly sad. I hope there's an answer, and I hope we can see and hear some rejuvenation somewhere somehow soon, and that this sort of behavior will not be what marks the end of times for the Brian Wilson history.

Off to see the show on 11-4.  What can I expect.   This will be my 6th BW show since the first Pet Sounds tour.  Can't believe it has been nearly 20 years since BW hit the road with the Wondermints.

What would have been a fair price for Northsongs?

Saw the Winery show on 9-16.   Christian was back, vocals not as good as when I last  saw them.   They did unleash the love.    The show and music had improved over the years but either this was an off night or they are losing ground vocally.

I' ve been  a die hard fan for decades and decades (as some of you may remember). But in recent years have been sidelined by a growing interest in the blues, pop and swing my friends and co-musicians enjoy playing.   But I've drifted back in recent weeks to the lovely melodies and lore of the Boys.   Gotta say, I am amazed by the ongoing strength and musicianship of Mike and the touring band.   Couldn't believe how well they came across in the DC performance today.  Mike, Bruce, Cowsill, Scotty, , Jeff, and the rest are still going strong it seems.  Hell, even Stamos.   Been 3 years or more since I last saw them.   5 years since I last saw BW.  May see them again in California this fall.   These guys still bring me a bit of happiness..  amazing after all these years.

They are playing the mountain winery in Saratoga CA in September.  Being from the mid Atlantic area, it is interesting that I may see them at that same venue  for a third time , again in late summer, early fall.  May be my last time to see them.   We are all getting older.  But it is almost always a good show.   always enjoy seeing Scott, cowsill, and Jeffrey.   I don't know how they keep it up.

No big regrets.   Been a while since I visited.   Glad to see what appears to be a new generation of hard core fans.

I liked KTSA at the time it was released......well about half of it.    Carl was still in fine voice at the time.  I like the title track, especially when performed live at Knebworth and at the D.C. Concert.  I still like watching that HBO D.C concert.   Great memories.......

I am one of those Beachboys fans who have for decades defended his love for this band in spite of ridicule by the media hip and elite,  one of those who have helped through their loving support, to elevate the band to their current level of respectability and iconic status.   Most posters here have staunchly supported the band despite the embarrassing episodes over the years (many stemming from Mike Love) .  But, this appearance would be far beyond what I could, or would, be willing to defend.    Many of us are not his people, the car people, but rather the SMiLE People, The Pet Sounds People, The Eccentric Brian Wilson people, the young indie crowd fan people.   Mike Love stands to alienate and distance the band from those who have brought them legitimacy beyond that of an oldies band who plays the Trump Inaugaration.  I f this happens, I will inform those who have long known me as a die hard Beachboys fan, that  I no longer have a taste for the material or it's creators or current incarnations as bands.  As I continue to bring my huge vinyl collection under control, I will consider getting rid of my four bankers boxes of Beachboys LPs as an OPPORTUNITY to rid myself of  material I no longer care to hear.  Sometimes In life, one must move on.

Dick Van Dyke Parks ......

He'd probably prefer if you asked him first.

LOL!     I hadn't thought of that angle......I was just thinking ......you know, the comedic actor from the 60's Razz

A pretty good documentary/bio.    Raw at times.    I think I liked that aspect of it.

Would be nice to see some deep cuts covered by others have wide commercial success and to see some of same deep cuts featured prominently in some wide release films.    I certainly don' t anticipate anything new in terms of recordings that would rattle my world.  I would like them to remain healthy and maybe smoke the peace pipe together.

John Cleese shoots the Dollar Tree manager and rides off on Al Jardines horse

My daughter just found a few of the small packs in the local Dollar store near her house. she bought all they had.  I had forgotten about them being discussed herE.   She gave them to me for a Christmas stocking stuffer today. Pretty cool.  I'll have to inspect them more closely for signatures?

didn't see Darlene Love mentioned in this thread.     To me, she is the greatest voice of the era.   and those songs were written by some of the best New York song writers of the era.  Yes, That crazy -uck Spector gets a lot of credit, and the Wrecking Crew was THE best, but Darlene was the heart and soul of that sound (apologies to Ronnie fans).    and she still has that voice and energy.  Drove 500 miles to see her Christmas show last year.    He's a Rebel. 1963.  he's Sure the Boy I Love, Today I met The Boy I' m Gonna Marry......This is the stuff that transports me to that place in my head that still resides in the year before the Beatles hit.  Sweet stuff indeed.  Glad you folks are out there to share these memories.

The BWPS version was also used during the ending of Wild Hogs.

Probably cheaper to license.

that was my guess

Solar System could be used in any sort of wacky scene about the cosmos .....perhaps in a movie about an inter galactic  alien love affair.......a sci fi romcom as the credits roll......

Dragging the Line.....the Tommy James hit.   I can just hear ML on the bass vocal and the harmony kick in "I Feel Fine" etc.  Carl on lead vocal.     Think about it !
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Complete Hite Morgan Sessions Will Be Released on: November 27, 2016, 03:30:22 PM
Just bought it.     Now, to go through my three bankers boxes of Beachboys LP's and see which of the several miscellaneous Hite Morgan LP's I can now remove from my collection.  Maybe also a good time to reduce the number of  redundant copies of other compilations.    Might start by giving alway 5 of the 6 copies I have of Endless Summer.
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Vinyl release of Becoming the Beach Boys. on: November 26, 2016, 08:42:06 AM
Just bought this but haven't seen it yet.  My neighbor bought it for me on Record Store day in another city.  should be in my hands this evening.  Supposedly 2 disc colored vinyl.   Anyone else get one?
