And once again, it must be asked, where is John Stamos in all of this?

No, it mustn't.

 LOL

Conversations like this one are of the utmost importance.

If you happen to like Monty Python, that is.

So thankful to all for the hard work and I can't wait to get my copies...

But... what a long, strange and ridiculous trip this has been

With this band it could never be anything less

How true.

Did I ever think, at age 15 (when I truly became the aficionado that I still am), that I'd be here, and be reading about the Feel Flows set, and the 60th anniversary of the Beach Boys?

That was 47 years ago  Shocked

but are you sure that the delay isn't a consequence of Mike Love having rewritten the booklet notes, in secret and in the last minutes? This kind of thing does happen sometimes, I was told.

I would think, coming from Howie, "..nothing untoward, weird or sinister..." means just that.  Nothing untoward, weird or sinister.

No reason to question him further.

Take his word for it. And relax.

Oh, Steve, I was writing in jest here... referring of course to stories from 1996 and 1997.

I don't think Howie wasn't entirely sure or serious.

Thanks for commenting anyway.

It's August 27th, folks.

Nothing untoward, weird, or sinister -- just a scheduling thing, as is commonplace.
I promise, a ton of cool stuff coming up.

Get pumped.

Thank you Howie -

So... my 2cd order from amazon UK has been pushed back to September 2nd

Cool

Yep my Amazon US order of the 5CD set was pushed to 8/27

 Huh

Could this mean that worldwide release has been postponed to late August? I'd be disappointed.

The physical one for sure. But curiously, both Amazon and Apple Music still list the date as July 30th. Hopefully it's just the physical that's delayed and we don't have to wait another month to hear it at all.

Ah thank you. I'm not acquainted with the way Amazon and Apple Music do these things. I'll patiently wait for the 5CD-set; it's always a delight to order it at my local retailer's, and hand Paul (the owner's name) the money myself when it will have arrived. It is a good, modern, not-too-big record shop; it's aways been a family business, and have bought my vinyl and CDs there for 40 years now. Incredible, when I think about this. This kind of pleasant ritual is so satisfying.

I love the 2001 mixes, especially, "Carl And The Passion", and "MIU/Love you". I have a very good headphone, and the sound is excellent!

Thank you -

since I got a new hifi set up (partly reshuffled old gear, new connection cables, new speakers, a new player), I guess I'll give these two a go this evening.

Then there would be message boards on which people got overly excited about questions like what if they hadn’t, what if it hadn’t, and what if it were.

...is the correct answer, all in one.

I doubt whether Immanuel Kant, David Hume, or Ludwig Wittgenstein would have come up with a reply of such shining clarity, pleasant brevity, and eminent wisdom.

Immanuel Kant, yesterday:"No. Certainly not. The Captain hat völlig Recht. Ich hätte es nicht besser formulieren können. Danke schön.

35  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Album PRESS RELEASE on: May 11, 2018, 01:09:19 PM
"California Suite"?

I would presume/assume some sort of medley/overture. I'm wondering if it might be a bit like the Van Dyke Parks bit from the "Pet Sounds" orchestral shows, albeit of course much shorter.
I really want a copy of the VDP overture....! Anyone?

PM me.

I think I'll stick with this:

37  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike's ok with Hologram Tour on: May 11, 2018, 07:16:16 AM
What happens when you throw rotten eggs and tomatoes towards a hologram?

In case of a rotten performance, for instance.
38  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Something's coming...Stay tuned on: May 11, 2018, 05:04:34 AM
It’s going to be one of those awful orchestral backup albums. They’ve done Elvis, Roy O. and Aretha thus far.

I'll go see if there's a James Last Plays The Beach Boys LP somewhere.

Cheaper, and way, way better.
39  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike's ok with Hologram Tour on: May 11, 2018, 05:03:01 AM
Who created such crazy-lame thing as "hologram tour" in the 1st place should be punished. & I'm being very kind here. Smiley

My idea of a fitting punishment:

Mike and his people are all being projected onto the stage, and 'performing'. By then, they think playing Summer In Paradise in full is the best representation of the Beach Boys' complete achievements. The band members themselves are enjoying their own performance at home, from a couch perspective.

Then, much to their surprise, a very real and alive Brian Wilson appears on stage, and he simply walks though the projected singers and players, with his impressive physique.

Now, wouldn't that be nice?

Will there be no physical release then?

 Cry

I'm not on iTunes, and don't plan to become a member either. What must*) I do?

*) doing nothing is not an option, not even busily so.

There hasn't been a physical release of any of the end-of-year "Copyright Extension" releases since they began in 2013 (unless one counts the "Party" 2-CD set from 2015).

There are numerous options to purchase digital downloads. Amazon is perhaps the most mainstream and easy. HDTracks is another. I believe there are several others.

Thank you! Light at the end of the tunnel, then, and not the light of the proverbial oncoming train... time for action!

42  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love You on: December 05, 2017, 09:11:59 AM
Don't see it as modular.  The songs seem to have been written as complete songs, demo'd that way by Brian, no switching about of parts from one song to the other.  don't know if they were RECORDED modular like Smiley Smile and some of Wild Honey was, recording parts of the song and editing them together rather than performing them all the way through.

I would agree with this. As much as I'd wished for our new member Bissonic to have kickstarted a 1,000 page discussion thread that would have put the Hoffmannites to eternal shame, I really don't think Love You was constructed in a similar way to SMiLE.

43  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: unleash mike love on: December 05, 2017, 08:55:10 AM
That actually sounds pretty cool. I notice Mike is being somewhat careful not to overstep the BBs name rules (even though he already has), by booking these as solo Mike Love gigs and not Beach Boys gigs. I wonder if he'll continue to do these.

He'll be busking in the streets in 20 years time, with an acoustic guitar, and still call himself "The Beach Boys".

I think.

Why wasn't LAPD informed about this matter earlier? -

the guys in the lab need a bit more detail. People's lives depend on it, you know.

Mr. Linett?
45  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Beach Boys Wild Honey(Sunshine Tomorrow) 2CD Set? on: August 24, 2017, 10:19:12 AM
the correct CD to listen to (late at night under candlelight) having just been identified for us (as if there's any doubt)

I will identify the correct Belgium craft beer that was alluded to - BROEJEL (a bock lager), chill well

Ha! Cheers, and what a fine beer name it is: Broejel! Plus: I love bock beers.

The circle is round, the question is answered, and I guess SSnet can now consider its grand mission fulfilled.
46  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Beach Boys Wild Honey(Sunshine Tomorrow) 2CD Set? on: August 24, 2017, 03:01:23 AM
OK -

I have Sunshine Tomorrow for more than two months now. Time for an evaluation.

1. It is a labour of love, and it is so much more than the umpteenth reworking of a minor classic, or a release born out of necessity (may that glitch in copyright extension laws live forever! Best mistake in the history of our universe, bar none!)

2. It came out of nowhere (seemingly), no big fanfare, and its presentation is as modest as it is complete and accurate; everything comes together with this one

3. I get enormous pleasure out of playing it - I reach for it late in the evening, no TV or any other screen on. A lit candle does the trick (well, and a good craft beer from Belgium).

The BBs catalogue is gigantic, and still this thing is one of its highlights.

Cheers to all involved!

Found a few people on the Hoffman board that seem happy

 Shocked

 Cheesy

Fun post of the week!
48  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Wild Honey LP Reissue in STEREO - 2017 on: August 23, 2017, 11:29:00 AM
I just went to my retailer's website.

It says: Wild Honey 50th Anniversary re-release, LP, Stereo Mix, date of release: June 30, 2017, available within 4 days after ordering (which means that it's not an import).

It is highly unlikely that anything of this is not true (they're very accurate). And it's some 8 weeks ago, already. I'll drop by there tomorrow and ask how it is.

Thanks to all -

your replies remind me of my personal opinion: BW is the greatest impressionist painter in all of pop music. Small, personal letters from him mean so much to me - he is sort of an everyman, in the literary sense. No bragging about big achievements in our quite insane society.

VDP remarked that SMiLE 2004 for him was like a wonderful collection of beautiful post stamps.

He is right about this. Life is not at all about getting filthy rich, and having sex with untold numbers of women.
