Wow...um, that is...quite horrible actually.
202  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! on: May 29, 2009, 07:02:55 PM
I agree I kinda like this song especially the version without the samples...it's funny, it's supposed to be funny.

King Of America is also my favorite.

"Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" is a  cover.
204  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian interview 1-13-09 on Jonesy Jukebox on: January 15, 2009, 12:54:28 PM
Poor Brian, he actually sounds rather "up" for a conversation, but Jonesy hasn't brought any enthusiasm to the proceedings has he?  The plug was pulled on Indie 103.1 today, I'm sure Jonesy knew the station was on it's last legs and it sounds to me like he just checked out towards the end there.  Don't let this interview fool you when he was "on" this was a great radio show, believe it or not.

Anybody else find it odd and perhaps a bit ironic that TLOS hasn't been performed yet (publically) in it's entirety in Los Angeles?

I hear "the Honey's way of surfin' is the daring-est yet"

Clearly a reference to....Darian Sahanaja!!

Ah there it is!  Thank you.  I think I might have set a record here for how many times I can embarrass myself in one thread.
208  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Hawthorne CA - A Musical Legacy question on: October 17, 2008, 03:19:20 PM
I didn't (and don't) intend for this thread to be "spurious" - I had remembered the "Ganz allein" excerpt being on "Hawthorne" - I guess I was mistaken.  Was it on the Endless Harmony soundtrack?  I'm always confusing those two releases.

So let's clear things up!   As I understand "In My Room" (German version) was on Rarities, it also appears on the Surfer Girl/Shut Down twofer.  What album has just the "Ganz allein" excerpt on it?

Cool, thanks for the info.  I mean... danke!!

There's a bonus bit on the Hawthorne CA CD where the boys are singing a capella, it sounds something like "guns align" or perhaps "god's alive"...?  Does anybody know what they are singing?
211  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: TLOS DVD on: September 18, 2008, 09:14:35 PM
Aformentioned (hilarious) hand-slapping edit aside, at least the four mentioned DVDs keep the focus on the band and the performance(s).  Compare to the recent few Paul McCartney live DVDs for example and the endless cutaways to singing-along audience members.  I want to see Brian and the band performing the music and all four of the DVDs do a good job of it, really it's not a big deal that they chose the best performance of each song.

Thank you Carrie!  I happened to visit the Historical Monument this week on my way back from seeing Brian in Nevada, and was curious just how close they were able to get to the original location with the freeway covering it now.  That Historic Aerials site is pretty cool, and you can swipe between different years to compare them; it's like a time machine.  So it looks like technically the monument stands on the spot that was the front yard of the house across the street (119th) to the south, as close as possible with eastbound lanes of the 105 freeway squarely covering the site.  Thanks again for the info!

Does anybody know which of these houses was the Wilson family home in Hawthorne?

Most bonus DVDs these days are basically video presskits for the album, I don' t see this one as being much different from the usual.
215  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: TLOS bonus tracks on: September 04, 2008, 03:55:11 PM
To me "Message Man" sounds like an 80s-style Brian tune circa Sweet Insanity, and "Oh Mi Amor" like 90s-style circa Imagination.  I dig 'em both.
216  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: TLOS DVD on: September 04, 2008, 02:55:45 PM
How exactly does the DVD compare to the VH-1 special?  I initially read that they are totally different, but the descriptions here of the DVD sound like they are nearly the same.
217  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's new official site has opened! on: August 28, 2008, 10:20:17 PM
Not a big fan of pages that force my browser to resize, and the new site design doesn't use space very efficiently.  Still it's aesthetically pleasing and it's nice to see such a big push for the new album.
218  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: AP BW TLOS story on: August 19, 2008, 10:27:17 PM
I was there and this is not exactly true...some of the audience only lightly chuckled when he started listing the drugs he took one by one by name - it was a long(ish) list, hence the chuckles.  But they were certainly not laughing AT him.
219  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Paley Sessions, your opinions... on: August 04, 2008, 05:37:08 PM
In my opinion the entire tracks are sped up.  I brought them into Goldwave and through trial and error slowed them down until they sounded correct to my ear in terms of pitch and tempo.

Here's an example, "Slightly American Music' as it appeared on Landylocked and a slowed down version.  My choice of speed was entirely subjective it just sounded "right" to my ears...

It's worth noting that many of these recordings commonly circulating are at the wrong speed - they're too fast.  This might account for many people's reaction that Brian's voice sounds "different"
