I love these recordings myself, and I always thought it was interesting that it's Al singing "Wouldn't It Be Nice" when Brian was there.

Thanks for sharing that! I really like a couple of them. I'd love to see what Pete Fowler would come up with!

Agree about "Be True to Your School" plus "All Summer Long" for me.

It's so good to hear the performance of "Summer's Gone"!

I was hoping that after the 50th Anniversary tour, they would do a smaller tour in promotion for the new album, which I really have been enjoying. Probably not too likely, but it'd be great to hear some of the new songs live.

Thanks for sharing the clip!

I'd really love a live album from this tour; I guess I just share everone's concerns about pitch-correction or re-recording parts to make them "perfect". I'd rather have fewer songs if it meant hearing the actual performances.

If you listen to live recordings from the early 70's, you'll hear the band takes their time to tune guitars, talk at lenght in between, often play too long intros, I mean they could play tight and heavy, but they probably forgot to make a coherent show.

I wasn't alive for it, but from what I've been told, that was most bands in the 70's! haha

The larger Smile box was a big investment, but that set and everything they've put out this year feels like it offers a lot of value to fans. People have been suggesting these types of reissues for a while... And they've really delivered. The tour was more than worth the ticket price, to me. I'm just thankful. If you don't have it, you don't have it. But I think having the option at least is pretty great.

Thanks for sharing that. I hadn't heard that version before, and I have to say, it does sound better IMO than the album version.
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: ISN'T IT TIME SINGLE VERSION (BBC Radio 2) LISTEN NOW on: September 03, 2012, 03:17:09 PM
I'll have to give it a few more listens, but don't like it very much compared to the album version after two times through. I would like to know who produced this version of the song, and any technical info on the recording process anyone might be able to share.

"Cool, Cool Water" or "Kiss Me Baby", most likely.
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What else will they add to the set?? on: June 22, 2012, 10:47:38 AM
We all have out favorites, but not playing "Surfin" on their 50th Anniverssary tour seems like a glaring omission to me. That's an easy one!!  Smiley

I couldn't help myself. I have to say...I am really pleasantly surprised! This turned out really well!

Nice photo! It looks like Carl is playing a Guild Starfire guitar. I had never seen him with one before.

I noticed that when they were projecting the album covers behind the band, including live albums and compilations, they left out Summer In Paradise.

IIFC, David Marks sang lead on Hawaii and not Surfin' Safari. Bruce sang lead on Wendy.

No offense John, glad you got to be a part of it but PLEASE stay in NYC  and DO NOT make the trip to Mohegan Sun this weekend...PLEASE.  Him finishing Forever is like a bad dream. Um David Marks anyone...?

I understand where you're coming from, but in the moment it was a good save. Yes, I am sure David would have loved to sing that one too; his mic wasn't loud enough to be heard at that time. Stamos walked over to Mike's mic after a few lines because that was cranked louder. He did a good job and salvaged that song.

Great show! I do hope they perform together again after this tour, even if it's a couple of shows once in a while! It really is beautiful to hear those guys harmonies along with a fantastic group of musicians backing them.

The Beacon Theater seems like a much more intimate venue than any of the other shows they've played so far on this tour (I may be wrong). If anything changes in the setlists, it's usually in the smaller venues. And I'm just plain excited.  Smiley

How about a mash up of TWGMTR with Radio Daze? That would be awesome!

I'll be there, can't wait! Great venue. Saw Brian and Al there some years back.

I do wonder how Brian's hearing affects him in performance. Even in the best of situations, live monitor mixes aren't usually very clear, and Brian's deaf in one ear. While I certainly don't know, it might partially explain his live performance anxiety or 'deer in the headlights' look sometimes.

Definitely have to give him props getting out there and going for it. The stage volume must be pretty loud with that many performers.

I bought it off iTunes this morning, and I love it...a perfect record for the reunion!

I will admit it took me a few listens to fully get into; I went back and played Don't Fight the Sea to help my ears adjust, and I think that helped. What I love about TWGMTR is that it's very Doo Wop, and that you can hear all of the individual voices in there. I must give props to whoever did the mix; the stereo balance is very nice IMO. I am really excited to hear the rest of the record; there still is that classic element to the Beach Boys, and I hope that they can make a record with some humor to it as well! Bring on the bass vocals and songs about root beer!  Smiley

Great to see Matt Jardine in there! Hope he stays on permanently!
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 50th Anniversary Tour Dates (as they roll out) (*UPDATED, Feb 15th*) on: March 03, 2012, 07:09:23 AM
Don't suppose that's Camden, London…  ?  Sad

No, Camden is a city in New Jersey, close to Philidelphia, and for a long time has been labeled one of the worst places in the country for gang related activity and urban poverty. To be fair, they are coming back, slowly. I'd pay for a parking lot with security if I was going there. It was one of the reasons I chose to go for the shows at the Beacon Theater in NY, anyway.

Hopefully they'll post some dates in London soon for you!  Smiley
