Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The great lost Dennis Wilson 1965 lead vocal. For what song?

I believe David Leaf wrote in the liner notes for the Capitol Today! / Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!!) twofer CD release that the song was "You're So Good To Me."
Lee
Thanks. ButI still have my doubts about the "Dennis was asleep" scenario. Takes a heck of a lot of time to create a track, and Dennis could have added his vocal at any time. Unless it was all done live... It seems to me that time was actually fairly tight. According to AGD's site, the vocals for YSGT were recorded along with the vocals for three other songs on May 24th. And my guess is they had to book specific studio time to record these vocals. The question is, do Dennis vocals appear on the other three songs for that day: Girl from New York City, Bugged, And Your Dreams Come True. Presently it would seem that only on "...Bugged..." according to Craig Slowinski.

Glen was a touring bassist, guitarist, (and occasional banjoist) between December 26 1964 and May 15 1965, with both Brian and Bruce filling in for some dates during his tenure. None of the Beach Boys tracks recorded during that time features Glen on bass. He did however play 12-string acoustic rhythm guitar on "Please Let Me Wonder," "Help Me Ronda," and possibly 'Help Me Rhonda." My only addition would be a more relaxed setting, get rid of the seats, get a noisier crowd in… drag out those endings … crank up the amps…light up, pass out the beers… ROCK!!!!!!!
Sounds very much like the Crystal Palace gig version of WH from '72.

Now the question is, and of this I have no idea, was Brian driving David's Porsche in the original film? Or was it Brian's car?
The May 31, 1969 edition of Disc and Music Echo mentions that Brian had started to economise recently, having sold his Rolls Royce but retaining his Mercedes, Porsche and two motorcycles. Perhaps that is Brian's car shown in the clip.

http://youtu.be/ERGw5c-g3p0?t=49sFrom the relevant page: Dean Torrence: “In mid-late 1962, Jan (Berry) invited Brian Wilson to the studio to hear the finished instrumental track to Surf City.” "The studio guys were also able to nail a track in two or three takes compared to The Beach Boys, whom one can assume would have taken much longer." [Debatable]. Larry Knechtal: … “I did some of the Beach Boys' early surfin' stuff. I played piano on Surfer Girl and that's the first one where I went, 'Wow, wait a minute, there's something here.'” Sound Explosion!: Inside L.A.’s Studio Factory with the Wrecking Crew, a new 12" x 12" album sized book, serves as the perfect companion to the Wrecking Crew film.At least they got that part right

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Our Team - seldom seen MIU Album documentary

It's highly probable that this happened in Seattle at Kaye Smith studio on 12/13/77: the band played the Center Coliseum the same day, and there's no documentation that the track was ever worked on at MIU, or that Dennis was ever in Iowa, although he may have drummed on an early session there for "She's Got Rhythm". The instrumental track was recorded at Brother in the fall of 1976 and sweetened at Wally Heider's 2/22/78. Yes, point taken that this footage wasn't part of the MIU sessions despite its inclusion in the "Our Team" documentary. Rather, I used the example to illustrate the quality of the footage which is a step up from what I had seen previously.
