Why would you feel like a goof? It's one of the greatest records of all time!

Mainly because of its associations with neo-hippie culture and stoners. It's the default "hippie" record of choice. But it really is a fantastic record and it doesn't make me like it any less.

I like it all. Not some tie-dye wearing pot head or misguided teen. Just enjoy the tunes.

This sums up my Pink Floyd appreciation perfectly. I feel a bit like a goof liking Dark Side but it's an enjoyable record every time. I enjoy the Syd Barrett years but I have a lot of appreciation for Roger Waters too.

My personal favorite album is probably Wish You Were Here - just a great record all the way through.

\Many critics maintain that it's the Kinks finest hour.  I give that title to Arthur but Village Green is amongst the better concept albums.

I agree; Arthur is the Kinks shining moment, though my personal favorite of theirs is Muswell Hillbillies. I can't say it's necessarily the best but it just hits me in the right place.

That being said, Village Green is a fantastic album from start to finish, as is Lola.

Thank you so much! I will definitely check all of these out. Much appreciated.
5  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / 60s Mix Suggestions for my 61-Year-Old Dad? on: June 13, 2008, 04:28:11 PM
Hello. I could have sworn I posted here a year or two ago but my log-in no longer exists. Hm.

But my father turns 61 (!) in a few weeks and I want to make him a mix of 61 songs from the 60s. He was a huge influence on my musical tastes as a kid and into adulthood. He loves The Beach Boys, The Moody Blues, Herman's Hermits, The Beatles... and thinks ? and the Mysterians is the best band name of all time. And he tells me this often.

I want to make him a mix comprised of the style of music he loves (and maybe some of the artists) but introduce him to some lesser-known, maybe not top-40 60s music. I am familiar with, and have, all the songs from the Nuggets collection and lots of Kinks, Faces, Guess Who, etc. But I would love any suggestions and/or mp3s.

Thank you!
