1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why Do We Treat Brian Wilson Like a Child? on: April 22, 2018, 05:02:47 PM
Because he is an angel.
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Beach Boys are the only ones who can sing like the Beach Boys on: October 19, 2017, 11:05:40 AM
The Beatles were fantastic but it is not the same as recordings by Brian Wilson.

Only the volume of the Beach Boys is better than the entire output of the Rolling Stones.

The eerie sequences that make me sink into dizziness are from the Beach Boys and not from the Kinks.

The acoustic trails for pleasure are among the Beach Boys. Not The Doors. Not ZZ Top. Not even Bros.

I love the Beach Boys

I agree.

Wonderful post! Agree with everything. Also, I think their music is inexhaustible. I always find something new and beautiful that I hadn't noticed before.  And it is definitely angelic and out of this world - it's Johann Sebastian Beach!

Welcome! Me too, I really love Love you, what a masterpiece!

Love both versions, but the Smiley Smile one has an eerie quality to it. It's almost like it comes from a fairy dimension. I love it when songs go otherworldly.

As a Brazilian, I just think you guys are so lucky to have the opportunity of seeing Brian live... Also, when international musicians play here, tickets usually cost at least 100 dollars. So, you're really, really lucky, hehehe.
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love You live - are there any videos? on: October 09, 2017, 09:42:15 AM
Thank you again! I'll try to look for it, then. If it's "out there", there is still hope =)
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love You live - are there any videos? on: October 09, 2017, 09:34:02 AM
Oh, I see. Thank you so much.  And do you happen to know if it is available in any format? Maybe on DVD? The youtube version, as I said, is out of sync - I could actually resync it, but the problem is the part with no audio at all.
9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why all the Mike Love hate on: October 09, 2017, 09:30:12 AM
I am actually new to this forum, but from being a fan and reading a few things over the years I was very aware that Mike Love is not the most liked person in the band.
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Love You live - are there any videos? on: October 09, 2017, 09:25:29 AM
I am sorry if this was answered before, but I was wondering if there are any videos of Love You songs performed live. I know they used to play things like Love is a woman, Airplane, Roller Skating Child or Honkin' Down the Highway but can't find anything other than audios (actually there is a concert on youtube - Largo, Maryland, January 21st 1977 - but the audio is out of sync and the second part is completely mute). Do you guys know of any video? Thank you!

It was of course not a serious suggestion.

I'd say VDP would be more likely to accept an offer from Mike than Mike would be to accept an offer/pitch from VDP.

I'd love to see it, if for no other reason than the fact that VDP's story from the "SIP" sessions about being confronted 25 years later about the same "Cabinessence" lyrics, along with being stiffed for the cost of a private plane ride, is among my favorite hilarious BB-related stories.

I don't know this one, but it sounds funny. Now I am sooo curious! Could anyone explain what happened? Thank you!
12  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Radiant Radish shirt at my Thesis Defense! on: September 28, 2017, 09:23:16 AM
My PhD Defense in Philosophy took place last week in Rio de Janeiro and I wore my Radiant Radish shirt to it! Even though it was a philosophy thesis, there was a few mentions to the Beach Boys: the epigraph, from Cabinessence ("over and over the crow cries uncover the cornfield"), the first section of the first chapter was called "pet sounds" and the last paragraph of the conclusion was a commentary from Lambert's book about Louie and Banana's place in Pet Sounds - it was a thesis on animals and politics. Besides that, I wrote the whole text while listening to the Beach Boys, so I thought it was very appropriate to wear the Radiant Radish shirt. The defense was great and the committee loved the thesis - I even got an invitation to publish it! - so I'm very glad to have made justice both to animals, since I wrote it for them, and to the Beach Boys, especially Brian and the dogs, who helped me so much during the process of writing. Maybe it is stupid to talk about it here, it's just that I am so happy about it all!
I don't know how to post pictures, but here's a link: https://imgur.com/JVxT20y
Long live the Beach Boys, who keep inspiring so many people and works!

14  Smiley Smile Stuff / Polls / Re: Which BBs clip do you like the best? on: September 15, 2017, 09:14:14 AM
Brian on the piano playing Surf's up with that angelic voice of his was what actually turned me on to the Beach Boys. I used to be the "casual fan" before that, I guess - loved Pet Sounds and the hits before it, but didn't really knew their music or history.  It was only after watching the video from The Rock Revolution that I really started to research them, like buying books, looking for studio sessions, buying all their albums on vinyl etc. That performance was a game changer for me. And I am still astounded by it. Other than that, I think Brian is so handsome in it, hahaha, his hair looks so nice... And love the way he really seems into the music, with his eyes closed, it's pure expression. Another thing that I've always noticed is how he barely opens his mouth even to reach those insanely high notes.

5! The vocals are perfect, so many layers in so little time. And I'm a sucker for those pa-pa pa-pa-pa-pas....
16  Smiley Smile Stuff / Polls / Re: Discuss Every Beach Boys Song Day By Day on: September 11, 2017, 12:18:13 PM
Superb. One of my favorites, from the "Rock, rock and roll/Plymouth rock, roll over/Rock, rock and roll/Plymouth rock, roll over…" to the chants. It is really an epic trip.
17  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: What are you watching now?/Favourite Movie of the Moment on: September 10, 2017, 03:38:37 PM
There will be no new Twin Peaks episode today  Sad  In my opinion, its 18 episodes were the great audiovisual event of the year.
18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Small Addition to SMiLE Website on: September 08, 2017, 11:48:06 AM
Hey, I am sorry if this was answered before, but what is this Brian's fiction piece for Beat magazine in 1966? There are some amazing quotes from it on the Good Humor website, and I, in my ignorance, didn't have the slightest idea such a thing existed. Is it a fiction article written by Brian? - and, if not asking much, where can I find it? Thank you so much in advance.

Now I see it's "Brain Wilson" - who is it?
19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Most Polarizing Beach Boys album on: September 08, 2017, 11:15:31 AM
Wow! I had been to his website once but didn't have the chance to explore it like I should. I actually had another version of Adult Child, the one with H.E.L.P. is on the way, but without Marilyn Rovell, Diane and Our team, for example. I'm specially fond of Life is for the living (a Broadway song in less than two minutes, and oh, those lyrics!), It's over now, Still I dream of it (one of my favorites songs ever) and that beautiful version of Deep Purple. Really love Brian's rendition of it, with that kind of husky voice - it's like he is giving the song back to its "common use", very heartfelt but not "oversung". It's great, thank you so much! It's so nice to find another fans of those albums! (sorry for my english, not a native speaker).
20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Most Polarizing Beach Boys album on: September 07, 2017, 10:38:42 AM
Most of my friends know how much I love the beach boys, so they are used to listening to Love You at my place. And luckily people seem to like it a lot too. The album is funny (johhny carson, solar system) and poignant (the night was so young) and it anticipates a lot of stuff musically. Also, there's that beautiful Patti Smith piece about it. In my opinion, it is the last of their great albums.

Smiley smile is another one of our favorites here. Love the lo-fi laid-back trippy psychedelicate intensely melodic feeling.

And, yes, also a great fan of the unreleased Adult Child - I'm with thorgil, who said he likes "left-field" Brian.

So, I don't know which albums are the most divisive, but I just don't listen to a lot of their post-77 music.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Rolling Stone: The Salvation of Brian Wilson on: August 28, 2017, 11:47:34 AM
Really wonderful article, from the beginning to the pictures (loved the one of Brian with a hose) to that beautiful closing:

"As I say goodbye, Wilson holds onto my hand for several seconds, then leans over and kisses it. "I hope I give a good show tonight," he says quietly. "And I hope I go to heaven.""

You sure are, Mr. Wilson! We love you so much!

24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Glen Campbell 1936-2017 on: August 08, 2017, 03:40:53 PM
So sad. Glen Campbell was truly a great one. A few weeks ago a friend showed me this amateur video of Wichita Lineman (with actual linemen working) and I found it so melancholic and poignant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVmnu5HfFIg
Rest in Peace, Glen.

Hey, guys, I've been lurking here for a while - learning a lot - and decided to make an account recently. I've been a huge Beach Boys fan for quite some time now and a brianista. Hope to be able to join your discussion threads and talk to you. Thank you for the board and the opportunity of reading you Love
