In my country there's a very popular radio called "Rock&Pop"; they play mostly music from the 80s and 90s , so I was surprised when they played "Surfin' USA" a few minutes ago.

Smb. years ago laughed it took few people to write DD. I'm glad it's short, as it should. Boring repetitious pointlessly shouty dreck with bad Mike-Carl-everybody vocals.

I don't think it's a bad Carl vocal. He didn't have much to work with and yet he sings his heart out.

This is the album. If you don't like spoken stuff I can't guarantee you'll like it...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rx-XtRIiHs

I don't like spoken stuff in the middle of songs, such as in "Lonely sea", but in cases like this I'm totally fine with it.

While on the subject of PSF (again), I used to own the album that theSuperMetroid02 recently linked in the "spoken word" topic:

I bought it in 1967, the year it was released (I no longer have it----long story). My favourite tracks were "Cancer: The Moon Child" and "Pisces: The Peace Piper".

I remember playing it in the office when the boss was out, just to piss off the secretary, who hated it. LOL

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Zodiac:_Cosmic_Sounds

"Virgo - The Perpetual Perfectionist" - Yep, that's definitely me  Grin

I hope this album sounds as good as it looks.  Thanks JK for bringing it up here or I would have missed it since I don't like "spoken words" and I'm not watching that thread.

Thank you all for your welcomes! (Or perhaps, "You're Welcome" for your welcomes?) Glad to know GIFs are welcome too - I'll have to upload them all somewhere to use 'em.

Most importantly, I need to start making Beach Boys GIF sets. And Beach Boys memes. Oh, the memes. Maybe I'll make that thread one day.

I've made some Beach Boys gifs but I never tried posting them in forums, I don't know if they work. I like memes, too.

Welcome aboard!!

Watership Down is not just a book but a real place, just a few miles from where I live. So welcome from Baughurst too!

I had googled and found the book so I thought it was a fictional place. Nice!

(TBH, I don't even know why a BB song is paired up with a Beatles song. Actually I don't know why the Beatles pop up in almost every thread/comment in BB forums)
They were American answer to the Beatles, that's why. Major American band vs. Beatles being major British band. Who else should be paired with them?

Because we had been pairing up BB songs with BB songs

Right now they have a great one about albums covers.

Thank you, John. Too bad we don't get to know your opinions there  Sad

As for my opinion on "Surf's Up" vs. "A Day In The Life", it's simple: "SU" lifts me up whereas "ADITL" brings me down. Smokin

Thank you.

Mine:

I absolutely love the song Keepin the Summer Alive.
I quite enjoy the disco HCTN.  Maybe it has something to do with not having had to live through the disco era (or at least, be old enough to grasp it).
Dennis is not the sexy Beach Boy.  That honour belongs to Carl.

I agree with all of them.

Strange how all the early album covers were not even included in the poll.  I decided not to join in.  Sure couldn't call it a good thread.  Too many find too
much to dislike about The Beach Boys.  I find too much to love.

I love the Beach Boys Today! photo session.  All Summer Long is another favorite cover.  Always loved the Pet Sounds cover, front and back.

They made fun of another favorite, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!).  Their Christmas album, another very favorite cover session, is also getting
a right trouncing in the albums poll.  I don't get it.  Some people welcome The Beach Boys into their lives, some people settle for a greatest hits package
with a  photo shop cover.

Hi feelsflow,
We have a new thread now (not the poll) where we discuss the album covers one by one. I'd love to read your opinions.
Silken,  I am talking about the Album Covers thread at PSF.  Sorry if it confused you.  I meant thread not poll.  The very one that
does not include any of the early album covers I love.

I instead posted my thoughts on the subject here.  And so you know, you know me.  I'm Will Harris everywhere but here at Smiley.

LOL Oh, obviously I had no idea. Hi, Will!

What's your fave PS topic? To me, "Obscure music", "Discuss BBs song per day", few others.

Right now they have a great one about albums covers.

Thank you, John. Too bad we don't get to know your opinions there  Sad

G'day, Silken. I've got question - who is in your ava? Is it juggler & some dog sits beside? Did you insist on that picture? You like vintage circus?
Hello RangeRoverA1,
It's an illustration called "Juggler of universes" by French illustrator and caricaturist Grandville. Queen used it (with some modifications) for their "Innuendo" album cover.

-"I" (the very first word in Good Vibrations)
-"Come be my redeemer"
-The halt before "Hung velvet overtaken me..."

The brief oboe (I think it's an oboe correct me if I'm wrong) after Brian sings "I'm better on my own" in Pacific Coast Highway.

It sounds like a cross between an oboe and a violin! There's too little body and too much vibrato for an oboe, I feel.

It might conceivably be a keyboard...

It sounds like a violin.
69  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Do you play Beach Boys albums when there are visitors? on: March 31, 2017, 06:22:53 PM
I posted the video Steam Boat on Facebook one time. I mentioned that in this song the Beach Boys would not have been out of place on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Some responses I got were
"I love California Girls" or "The Beach Boys and Pink Floyd? I don't think so." I'm thinking, did anybody actually play the video?

When I decided to share my newfound love for the Beach Boys with my Facebook friends I was about to post Steamboat but eventually posted Cabinessence. I also described what I liked about the song and the band. I got only one comment: "Kokomo"  Shrug

I usually play compilations that include Beach Boys songs, and I once played POB.

S, am I right in recalling that your sister's not exactly a fan? :-|

Exactly! But she also hated me when I played Queen and now she loves them, so maybe it's just a matter of time. Anyway, unbeknownst to her I sing BB songs to her baby daughter.  Grin

A few months ago I asked this at PSF to no avail. Maybe someone here can help me. There used to be a video of the Boys performing KTSA, GV and Goin' On on a TV show called "Friday's" or something like that, but it has sadly disappeared from Youtube. Does anybody know if this video can be found elsewhere? I liked it an awful lot.

Hi everyone!
I tried to register here several times and I finally made it! I'm a new fan and in the last year or so that I spent lurking I learned A LOT (and I've also had some fun) so thanks for that. I hope to spend a good time here  Smiley
Bye for now!
