You really don't have to put the word Comment before everything you say you know
As to your statement “. . . before everything you say you know”, what I say, I do in fact usually know. It would be foolish and a waste of everyone’s time to say something I don’t know. I post here because of my historical involvement with The Beach Boys, and because of that involvement feel I can lend a degree of insight on some subjects you will not find elsewhere. However, I must say that the fanbase never cases to amaze me with all the knowledge they have over a variety of subjects. Many who post here know more than I do, but have gleaned their knowledge by way of second hand sources. Because I was there, and in some cases was the cause of some theme under discussion, I feel I can add a spin to the subject otherwise not obtainable. Therefore, I not only say I know, but in fact do know. If you have a problem with such an authoritative position, please feel free to skip over my postings.[/size] ~swd Excuse me Mr. Desper, but I'm pretty sure SydBarett used "you know" merely as interjection, not to refer to things that you share from your experience/knowledge.

Didn't realize it was his birthday yesterday. Happy birthday, Adrian!
I bought his solo album "Into a Dream" on CD last year - it's a terrific soft rock album with competent production and beautiful falsetto vocal which I personally describe as "Frankie Vaill Vol. 2". Highly recommended.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Are The Beach Boys letting their fans down with digital only archival releases
|

I also wish there were physical releases with these archival releases, especially with a huge concern about their availability in the future - If released in physical format, you can acquire a secondhand copy of the album even if it's out of print. In digital-only releases, on the other hand, the albums would be impossible to acquire legally once they were taken down from the online stores/streaming services. So when copyright extension sets came out in the last couple of years, I bought them as early as possible not to "miss" it in case of their being taken down (as well as the reason I state later). On top of that, some of the digital-only releases are regional: "Big Beat 1963" was not released on online stores in Japan, making it impossible to purchase the album legally without a foreign credit card and VPN. Hence I have never got to listen to the album (and I hate to get it from, uh, you know, unofficial stores/sites). These are the biggest problems I have with digital-only releases. That being said, I still think these releases are far, far better than nothing, and I really appreciate the fact that those fabulous pieces of music are now open to public, which I hadn't expected at all in 2016; thus I pay money for them gladly, even I feel a bit unsettling for buying downloads. Plus, there's another strong incentive for me to purchase them: apparently the continuation of these archival releases are at stake. To quote Alan Boyd on this forum from 2018: It is becoming so incredibly difficult to get the corporate support that enables these highly specialized niche oriented projects to happen at all...And this time it hurts a little, because (as you may have noticed), there is no promotion for this year's stack of tracks. We're hoping and praying that people who appreciate the hard work that goes into these projects will support that work by buying copies/downloads and proving to Universal Music that there is a market for this kind of Beach Boys archival collection. It appears that they might shut down the archival project for the Beach Boys if they deemed there weren't enough market for such releases. So, low sales for digital-only archival releases could shut down the chance of future archival releases, let alone physical reissue of past digital-only releases. To stand the frustration of not having the music on physical format, or not to have these archival releases at all? I'd say it's no-brainer.

I'd be down for literally anything from 1969-71 (or any outtakes from the Beach Boys, really), but what intrigues me the most is Fred Vail Country Album. Apparently the vocals are not strong and the album is incomplete, but it'd be a real pleasure for me to get to listen to one of the rare occasions where Brian attempted country music.

I hope the box set would lead to wider re-appreciation of Sunflower and Surf's Up, as Sunshine Tomorrow did for Wild Honey.
On a side note, it's too bad that Rolling Stone replaced Sunflower with The SMiLE Sessions in their 2012 edition of "all time top 500 albums" list. I know they include compilations & best-of's in the list, and SMiLE is a terrific work of art on its own, but I'd have preferred that an actually finished (and great) album stayed in the list rather than an unfinished one.

Looking at the Amazon copies of the CD I continue to be confused a bit. same second market seller selling on Amazon as ebay. states it is a CD but if you look on the extended notes (info) on any of the ebay ads ( not present on the amazon ads) it adds these words
About this product Product Identifiers Producer Brian Wilson Record Label Virgin EMI (Universal United Kingdom) UPC 0602547517630 eBay Product ID (ePID) 217776599
Product Key Features Release Year 2015 Style Rock 'n' Roll Artist The Beach Boys
Additional Product Features Format CD-R Genre Rock 'N' Roll, Oldies Distributor Universal Music Playing Time 147min. Recording Mode Stereo Release Date 20151127 Spar CODE N/A Number of Discs 2 Recording Type Live
makes me nervous.. don't want a CDR
Why not buy it from different seller on Amazon? If you want to make sure, I'm pretty sure you can ask them about it by clicking seller's name -> "Ask A Question". Also, I'm pretty sure the album was never issued on CD-R. My guess is it's just mislabeled, or they are selling bootleg CD-R (...but what's the point?)

So far the speculation has been ridiculously wrong...so...why not wait for official word instead of relying on the guessing and speculation and whatever is posted on other forums?
Chances are that there wouldn't be any "official word" (if you mean official announcement by that) on this year's copyright set before its actual release. Last year, (if I recall correctly) even Alan Boyd and Mark Linett had no idea about the release date until "Wake the World" and "I Can Hear Music" sets were released. There would definitely be official promotion if a box set were to happen, though.

Reddit guy with the info has adjusted post to say NEXT Friday (December 20th) so you can stop checking now lol.
He actually adjusted the post to say "fingers crossed" for the 20th so it's still just speculation at this point. It's almost like he's making this stuff up Nobody is making stuff up. It's just speculation based on a few non-firsthand info posted on forums, to begin with.

This Friday and not even an announcement
Bizzare
There was no official announcement from, say, Beach Boys social media accounts and the official site, prior to the release of last year's copyright set either. That said, it's concerning that there has been little info on the release shared beforehand from Alan and Mark unlike last year. Probably they're too busy working on the box set though. It has always blown my mind the complete lack of marketing for these projects - I mean, how much effort does it take to post one little blurb about a new set that you can buy on iTunes? Brian's Facebook, The Beach Boys Twitter account, etc etc...even just a handful of people becoming aware and buying the set due to social media marketing would make the 10 seconds it takes to post a message worth it. Absolutely. These invaluable works deserve much more respect from the record company and recognition from public.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Murry Wilson And Snow

Here's the detail of the release: http://omnivorerecordings.com/shop/break-away-ep/In 1969, Rick Henn brought a vocal group of interest to Murry Wilson. Purportedly from somewhere in the Midwest (Nebraska? Oklahoma?), not much is known about this four member singing group called Snow.
Omnivore Recordings is proud to announce the digital only release of The Break Away EP. Four previously unissued tracks recently discovered in The Beach Boys archives. Murry Wilson and Rick Henn co-produced the EP which includes the title track, penned by Brian Wilson and Murry (under the pseudonym Reggie Dunbar). The song also became a mid-chart hit for The Beach Boys in 1969. Also included on the EP are “We’re Together Again” another Brian Wilson/Beach Boys outtake and two other tracks, “Wilderness” and “Bless Me”. Unfortunately, not much is known about these last two tunes.

UPDATE:
According to Reddit.
Digital stuff comes out this Friday.
And Bruce confirmed to a fan that the box set (physical!) is arriving February 2020
I’m in mobile so I can’t copy and paste but that’s the meat of it.
Here's the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/thebeachboys/comments/e8aogh/heres_what_we_know_about_the_sunflower_sessions/Thanks to u/BlameTheDutch25 (Note: this is our member jiggy22) for clearly summing up what we’re expecting:
A set of material recorded in 1969, but not necessarily associated with the Sunflower album (stuff like Break Away, Celebrate the News, 'Til I Die Demo, Soulful Old Man Sunshine, etc.), will be coming out most likely this Friday, December 13th (digital streaming only).
At a November 17th show in Morro Bay, Al said they’re working on a box set with material from Sunflower and Surf’s Up (with “Feel Flows” as the working title). Bruce Johnston told u/HellaciousMedic at a recent BB show that a box set will come out in February 2020.
Obviously nothing is certain, this is just the best info we have so far. We do know legally we will be getting something soon so keep an eye out!

Definitely have a love-hate relationship with digital music, but it would be cool to listen to the streaming version before Christmas. I doubt there will be a hard copy if Friends and 20/20 didn't get one, even if there is more "critical acclaim" for the Sunflower/Surf's Up era. Seems they only did it with Wild Honey because of the new stereo mix really.
If Al Jardine said there would be a box set named Feel Flows, then I think there's a fair chance real physical box set is coming... Plus, I like to think Sunflower/Surf's Up era would be given physical treatment, especially if they could justify 2 CD release for Party! sessions back in 2015. At the end of the day, I wouldn't mind it at all as long as the release, be it physical or just digital, would happen and we'd get to hear the music, though.
