Sorry to be a bit off-topic, but I'd prefer a release of Dennis Wilson Box Set or multiple CD set which includes (all of) his songs in the vaults from post-Friends Sessions to 'Labor Day' Sessions. I think that would sell pretty well, considering how many copies of Pacific Ocean Blue/Bamboo 30th anniversary set.
I'd prefer Brother/Caribou Rarities box set of 6 (or so) CD's even more, though.

I haven't get to 'get' this album.
I absolutely love some songs (River Song, Pacific Ocean Blues, Rainbows), and dig a few of the others (What's Wrong, You And I, Farewell My Friend), but as the whole I just can't get what's so astonishing about this entire album.
I don't think there's single bum track to be found on the album (maybe one possible exception), but the entire album is not among my BB favorites. Currently I enjoy 15 Big Ones tracks more than this album's tracks.
Someday I hope I come to appreciate the greatness of this album. Perhaps giving it a listen every day, just like I did with Pet Sounds when I had a hard time, would help me 'get' this album.
Anyway, happy 40th birthday to Pacific Ocean Blue!

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Rare Recordings You Have Heard But Most Fans May Never Have
|

A little while ago, I saw a member of Pet Sounds forum (I don't remember who) said on this forum that they had a recording of Behold the Night by Dennis Wilson. I remember I was very surprised to know that.
Now, is there anyone who has had a chance to hear some of the BB's rare recordings that most of fans never have heard? If possible, I'd be glad to hear story about that (how you get to hear the rarities).

Brian invented mope rock. It surely hurt the bands overall popularity in the long run....
You should change your name to Septic Tank, as most of your posts are full of sh*t. Hey, I think your post here is a little unreasonable. I also disagree with his view, and I can see why you wanted to tell him such a thing, but there's no use making fun of him with words that imply himself or his point of view is like excrement. Please don't insult anyone, or in other words, treat anyone poorly with what they have said. If you think he's getting out of line, you have rights to warn or ban on him, since you're a mod. Otherwise, you should reply and show your disagreement in politer way. Sometimes it's actually better and more functional for a message board (and Billy would know this as a long-time mod) to just tell someone their post is full of s**t and then move on rather than actually immediately *escalating* the situation to an "official" warning or ban. Exactly. Watamushi, Billy has seen some fairly horrible crap go on during his (long) time of moderation in this forum. Mike’sTheGreatest post history is chock full of borderline trolling, I think most of us are fairly sick of it. Okay, got it. It's alright if it would work well in the end.

I'm surprised that no one except me has voted against The Continuing Story of... thus far, since I've thought it was generally considered as one of the worst songs on White Album, mainly due to Yoko's annoying appearance.
Here, another vote of mine goes for it.
I feel the same way towards the song I'm voting against - which hasn't really had any votes against it aside from mine Perhaps that's because it was a singe and therefore many consider it as a better one from the album.

2Watamushi - add "5" to TTTAAC. It's the best track with Al's great lead! He really shines there (as usual). 1 to "Barbara Ann" - the last long sing-song "Baaaa-ba-raaaaaan. You gotta rock it" then banal guitar descending outing's really godawful. I like the live 80s BA. Done!

But I really hope they start moving away from an exact chronological/album approach and start looking at what is the BEST material in the vaults to put out there. There are about a THOUSAND outtakes from the 70s that are more interesting than what's left of the 60s.
Strongly disagree! To each his/her own of course, but there are at least a dozen or more tracks on that "Brother Proposed Bonus Tracks" CD set that interest me more than *another* edit of "Can't Wait Too Long", or "My Little Red Book", and so on. I love all of the tracks of course, and I absolutely support a 68/69 set. But a demo of "'Til I Die", an extended version of "This Whole World', a pristine mix of "Carry Me Home", and alternate version of "4th of July", and many other tracks need a release and interest me more. Let's also remember that those "Proposed Brother Bonus Tracks" were probably compiled in 1999 or 2000 or so, and there are surely even more things that have been uncovered since then. But hopefully BRI will put it *all* out, and then we won't have to debate which era deserves an archival release more. Agreed.
