This is just incredible. I couldn't be happier.

I enjoy "MIU", "LA" and "KTSA" because even though practically all those songs suck, they are very infectious. "Sone Of Your Love" on KTSA, for example. That song is god-awful, but I can never get that "Sum-sum-sum-Some of your love...Gimmie lovin'....yeah, Sum-sum-sum-Some of your love"...and then the embarrasing verses...ugh...
3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: POB Legacy Edition - Picture on: June 03, 2008, 09:22:26 AM
You know, this is the only thing I was worried about for the set. I really, really like it when these archival releases have packaging that exactly reproduces all of the original artwork. Thankfully, this doesn't look like Rhino's screw-up with the Wilburys release, which only had smally, tiny pics of the album covers. I guess we're all lucky it landed at Legacy.

Awesome news.
5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Alleged TLOS demos... on: May 03, 2008, 01:43:58 PM
I still can't believe they got out. Is Brian's camp really going beserk (like they should)?
6  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Paul is Dead on: April 30, 2008, 11:12:56 AM
I LOVE the Paul Is Dead stuff, especially as a die-hard Beatle fan. It's so much fun. I know it's not true, but as mentioned before, it's really good for a laugh!
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Summer In Paradise - airbrushed from history? on: April 30, 2008, 11:09:33 AM
I have never heard it (I'm not willing to shell out the money it goes for on EBay...if it went for what Still Crusin' goes for , I'd get it. [I got that for just $3.] but I do think it is a little odd that they don't mention it. That'd be like Dylan not having the lyrics for "Knocket Out Loaded" on his website.
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Al Jardine Song Samples on: April 30, 2008, 04:08:07 AM
I can't wait for it either.

Hi, ASC, and thanks. I do visit here, semi-regulalrly, and in fact was hoping/trying to respond to your note a couple of weeks back but then I was having some technical difficulties....I couldn't get myself signed in. Weird. I was in the UK at the time, and was wondering if it had to do with the pixels going down the left side of the wire....but that might not have been it.

Anyway, thanks. And yeah, I'm eager to see the movie when/if it appears. There was a time, funnily enough, when 'CAW" was in fact going to be part of the source material for the movie. But then that time ended, and la-dee-dah, life goes on.

I'm still happy about the book, though. Happier still you took the time to say nice things about it. Thanks for that.

pac

Thanks for taking the time to respond to me and to every one else here, when you never really had to in the first place. I appreciate it, and I bet a lot of others here appreciate it, too.

I second that.
I'm really happy to see you respond, plus please don't sue me! I'm only a poor college student, so you won't get too much out of me! Grin
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: In appreciation of: \ on: April 23, 2008, 03:36:03 PM
I could not read that without posting a response. It was wonderfully written. I could never write something like that for my blog.

Anyway, it's not as special a song to me as Beatles numbers, mainly because that is what's been in my life since the beginning. I can't remember the first time I heard "Wouldn't It Be Nice", but I remember always thinking that it wasn't anything special. You see, growing up on a random hits compilation ('95's Vol.1, I think), I always thought of it as just a standard Beach Boy track. Now, hearing it at it's rightful place, as the intro to the greatest album ever recorded, I completely understand how important it can be to life-long BB fans. It's simply a piece of magic. That intro and the lyrics! My god, if that doesn't shake you, what will? I like to think that everyone sheds a tear when listening to "GOK" and I think everyone should love "WIBN".

11  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: What is everyone listening to? on: April 23, 2008, 07:37:25 AM
Listening to "She's A Woman", and I still can't figure out why some people don't like it...
12  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: let it be (the film) on: April 22, 2008, 01:34:22 PM
I really hope it comes out soon. It is really annoying to not have it officially released. I think I heard somewhere that it's stitting all remastered and everything and they just don't to put it out. When they put out "Let It Be...Naked" it would have been perfect to put it out, but they didn't. I mean, if they can take the time to remaster the recordings for a 20-minute audio montage, why couldn't they just put out the movie???

WOW! Can't wait for that. I'd like to see how they format it. Whether or not they put POB on its' own disc.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: The Peter Ames Carlin Thread on: April 21, 2008, 04:27:05 PM
Peter, I loved the book as well. It was a magnificent, fun read. I've used it to help give a speech on The Boys in the '70s for a communications class.
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pacific Ocean Blue: Pre-Order!!! on: April 21, 2008, 12:23:43 PM
I gave in and pre-ordered it. I want it the day it comes out, too, but I'd like to at least know that I'm 100% sure I'll get it. We do have those wonderful Newberry Comics in New England, but they jack up the price on everything. There's no way they'll be cheaper. Certainly our Best Buys aren't going to get in more than a copy or two and they won't have it any cheaper than Amazon.
16  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Song or album that turned you onto The Beach Boys on: April 20, 2008, 04:29:10 AM
The first time I heard The Beach Boys had to be in '95 when I was 6. That was when the first of those three volume Greatest Hits came out, with the wierd covers and all. It was also the version with the error, so I grew up thinking that there was no cheerleaders on "Be True To Your School" and "Help Me, Rhonda" always had a harmonica! Then, in '99, we got the single disc issue of Pet Sounds and I think I was officially taken after that. With the Beatles, my parents turned me into die-hards, but with the BBs, it's been the opposite. We're a Massachusetts family, with no connection to California or anything, so it was understandable why I couldn't find any BB albums in thier vinyl collection, among all the British Invasion, Folk and Monkee ( Roll Eyes ) LPs. For years it was just the "Greatest Hits," but then I was like, we gotta get more and they couldn't understand it. My dad (who is nowhere near a music fan of anything) couldn't understand why me, a kid who could never surf, would want this stuff. I've had them listen to everything, and I think they understand now.  Grin I dragged them into Boston to see Brian in '06 and they said it was the best concert they'd ever been to. So the tables have certainly turned... Tongue
17  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pacific Ocean Blue: Pre-Order!!! on: April 19, 2008, 08:28:16 AM
I'm still not confident in this pre-order though. When thye update it more, I'll gladly do it. I'm worried about finding it at my area stores...
Also, the title is odd. I don't think it should be billed as a two-fer type-package. Amazon is calling it "Pacific Ocean Blue & Bambu".
18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pacific Ocean Blue Official Website on: April 13, 2008, 12:02:22 PM
I really like the site. There's some really nice pics.

I've got a Q and I don't think it required a whole new thread, so here goes: Anyone got a clue as to why it's not up for pre-order on Amazon yet? I mean, it coemes out in less than three months, so shouldn't it be up now? I've got a really bad feeling that it's gonna be hard as hell to find in any local store, so I was hoping to go that route with Amazon.

20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: new comp announced - June 10 - U.S. Singles on: April 12, 2008, 04:38:25 AM
Wow....This sounds really nice, although the 'mock sand' might be a little wierd.
Why do they think we need "Punchline" again?
Yes, I know it wasn't Capitol, but wouldn't the "Surfin'"/"Luau" single had been a nice bonus?
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: new comp announced - June 10 - U.S. Singles on: April 09, 2008, 02:07:26 PM
Even if all it is is 16 2-track CDs I think I'd get it. I have the first Stones set and The Beatles EP box and if they make the packaging nice enough, it could make for a great set.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: The Beach Boys Love You on: April 08, 2008, 07:25:45 PM
Great album all around. The first time I heard it a couple of years ago, I couldn't understand why people were saying how incredible it was. I mean, I was sitting there hearing the guys sing these goofy lyrics about how Johnny Carson fills up the slack when guests are boring and I thought that "I Wanna Pick You Up" was the creepiest thing in the world. However, over time, I think I finally got what makes the album as magical as it is. I mean, how AWSOME is "I'll Bet He's Nice" and "The Night Was So Young"? Then, there's that opening! Doesn't "Let Us Go On This Way" have everything in it that the album as a whole does? I just love the "God...Please....Let...Us...Go...On...This...Way..." part. It's just amazing!

23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What's on top of your Beach Boys wishlist? on: April 08, 2008, 05:10:22 PM
Being new here, I'll post my list:
A SMiLE set goes without saying...
A Rarities volume of released works not on [legally, anyway] CD yet...
Carl's solo LPs...
Another 'Hawthorne, CA' package of all unreleased stuff...
Still Crusin'/Summer In Paradise two-fer that replaces the retreads on SC with other movie songs & the UK versions of SIP tracks... LOL LOL

Basically, if Capitol can put out something that isn't another hits compilation, I'll get it.
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Museum on: April 08, 2008, 05:05:25 PM
It would be fun. I'd love to see it happen.
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / Re: Hi! on: April 08, 2008, 05:00:59 PM
Thanks, I sure will. I have to say, I know for a fact, I won't do a lot of posting. I just love coming here and reading the posts. They're fascinating and informative. I'm a member of a few Beatle forums and have to say that those are...umm...less intellectual. Especially the Macca board, which seems to be ruled with an iron fist.
When I saw that Mark Linett posts here every now and then, I was just floored.

Oh, also...shameless plug: I have a podcast www.dsl89.podomatic.com that I think people here might enjoy. I did a Dennis episode and the pilot I did featured The Boys, but I think I'll do another one soon. I was just playing around with my laptop's mic and I just recorded the songs through that and it sounds horrid. Now I'm using Audacity, which is incredible.
