interesting stuff...!
back to SMiLE:
i'm wondering how much of "Can't Wait Too Long" dates back to SMiLE. i'm pretty sure the instrumental bit at the end with bass, drums and organ was SMiLE-era, but how about the verses, etc?
that ending is heard on the 2-fer version but not on the boxset for some reason... it's great.
i also think it's a real shame that the H&V fade (aka false Barnyard) was left off BWPS.
I thought CWTL started after SMiLE? I too though, love that ending. Wonder why the GV set left it off?

The January sessions for "Surf's Up" were labeled as tracking for Part 2.
Apparently there are some verse vocals for "CITFOTM" that can barely be heard bleeding through a recorded playback. That being said, there were enough sessions for "CITFOTM" to hypothetsize that there likely were vocal sessions for the verses. But it's just a guess.
Interesting on the CITFOTM info. I thought that the sessions for Surf's Up in January 67 were for the first part. Is it possible the first movement was started in December of 66?

I highly doubt any vocals were recorded for the verses of DYLW.
I'm 50-50% on that one. No one has come up with corresponding AFM-Sheet/tapebox evidence to say whether or not there was a session for those vocals. No evidence outside of the lyric sheet given to Frank Holmes in 1966.
But there were vocal sessions for "CIFOTM" and "Part 2" sessions for "Surf's Up."
Yeah but are we talking about the chorus vocals for Child (which we have) or are we talking about vocals on the verses? Also, are we sure that there's part 2 sessions for Surf's Up?

Incidentally, anyone seen that youtube video from 1991? Brian's at a party and he does "Surfer Girl" and he pretty nearly nails it, high voice and all. It's kind of shocking.
I just went to youtube and found this and wow ... that's pretty incredible. Here's the link BTW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9a6rkWWFyckYeah I've seen that before actually...he sounded fantastic. I think there's a clip of him doing "Caroline, No" from the same period where he nails the bridge and the final "nooooooo". Yeah, the same guy has the clip but he hasn't uploaded it yet for some reason. Too bad, because that Caroline No performance is out of this world.

I guess that the bottom of the barrel has been scraped. Mike Love once explained the lack of an official Beach Boys "Smile" compilation by saying "You've got it all already". Perhaps we do. There's still the hope that Capitol or Brother may uncover some previously unheard material from tapes that were misplaced, misfiled, stolen or weren't retrieved from studios or labels or individuals who owned those studios.
Plus, there's got to be better quality versions of some of what we have, like the two tracks I talked about before (Da-Da stereo version and the track to the harpischord version Wonderful.)

Less complicated than Big Sur? I don't know about that. Not that it's complicated, but isn't Big Sur just walking down (and up) a C chord? Without listening at the moment, I'm guessing it's just C, G/B, Am, G/B, etc. Also, to Amy's point (sorry it's not a new paragraph here, but you'd be surprised at what merlot does to a laptop's keyboard functionality), I don't think Scott sang the WLCD demo. I dont' recall who did, but I thought I recalled it being some name I didn't know, that it was just some hired singer.
Actually, after fooling around my keyboard a bit, I think it's C, G/B, AM, C/G and then it's repeated.

Looks too good to me. I saw one on Ebay a year ago and this one doesn't look as realistic as the other one did. I wonder what the one I saw a year ago went for. It was over $300,000 last I checked but I didn't see the final value.

..a trusted source shared this in another forum:
"..it was a 9CD set expanded to 10CD's, i'd say approx 40-50% is available on other bootlegs, maybe less. A 12CD set is rumour, if 2 more CD's have been added, it did'nt come from the same source(s) as the original 10CD set..."
BBoV with 50 to 60% of SMiLE material which has never been released, either legally or boot, would be a goldmine--but apparently it is still only available to the higher level of collectors...
Interesting. Never heard of the set but I've heard of the three that Jason talked about. Secret Smile is probably the best one. Highlights of it include three "Tones" sessions, the backing track to the Harpsichord version of Wonderful, and a stereo version of I Love to Say Da-Da. The last two are in poor quality though.

Well, here's a funny thing regarding Da Da.
The second version (or second "day) of Da Da is subtitled "Air Da Da".
That's the one with the chirping bird sounds right? Wouldn't be surprised if that was it. The only thingthough is that I feel something more then the water chant would have comprised the water element. To buddhahat, that's a good suggestion as well. The third version of Da-Da does seem to end too quick.

i've noticed people mention some things that are not on my copy of American Band (1980's vhs copy) like Brian performing In My Room on stage. any help with this?
I believe it was re-released on DVD not long ago, packaged with I Just Wasn't Made for These Times. I think I've seen it at Costco.
