Thanks. I always felt that part of the released version began too abruptly (although let's be honest - who am I to judge?) so I wanted it to seem a bit less so. I added a little doppler-type effect on it and faded it in a bit more slowly than the album version.

Wow - just came across this post while looking in the media section for a hi-res version of the Brian in a robe rolling stone cover photo for the bathroom. This is my mix - although to be fair, it contains elements (or at the very least ideas based on) purple chick, mok, and pretty much every other mix I've ever heard. I sent a cd to Warnakey a couple of years back and he graciously posted it. I'm glad to hear it has some people who appreciate it. I just wanted to do the cleanest stereo mix possible, since I figured that if the BB's finished it, Brian's definitive mix would be in mono. I should probably get it somewhere in lossless, since the version available is strictly mp3.
By the way - Wrightfan & Warnakey's mono mix is fantastic. My own personal favorite.

Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: BW and band in Hampton Beach, NH

I was at the Hammerstein Ballroom benefit show, and here are my general thoughts:
I like nothing better then hearing fully fleshed out versions of Brian Wilson's pop-symphonic masterpieces. His full band, with the addition of the Stockholm Strings & Horns, can do it like nobody else. But, while this concert will never match SMiLE at Carnegie Hall or the Pet Sounds orchestra shows, it was far from disappointing. I was surprised to see the abbreviated lineup, but they certainly held their own. I figured the missing members had prior commitments. I am generally not a fan of "greatest hits" shows, but since that's not usually the Brian Wilson Band's style, this was a fun departure. Those brilliant arrangements are only part of the history of a songwriter who, let's face it, started his career by stealing mercilessly from Chuck Berry. This was a rock & roll show, plain and simple. Under normal circumstances, the band plays with the delicate touch and precision that Brian's best pieces require, really only getting to "rock" during the encores. At the show, they got to do it basically all night. And while Al Kooper's "Caroline, No" vocal may not have been all it could have, his organ solo on "Help Me, Rhonda" more than made up for it.
Suffice it to say that, after a dozen or more Brian Wilson shows, this one was a good time. As long as it remains the exception to the rule, I have no problems with the occasion "sun & surf" hits show.
