If I could go back in time...

1. Knebworth, England - June 20, 1980
2. Anaheim, CA - July 3, 1976 (Brian's back...)
3. L.A. County Fairgrounds, Pomona, CA - September 26, 1983 (this should be the last one with Dennis)

3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Al Jardine Postcards From California FAKE Vinyl?! on: January 01, 2019, 12:23:14 AM
I bought one of these from e-bay, imported from the USA to the UK, a few weeks ago as a Christmas present to myself from my kids!

I just opened it tonight and was gutted to find there was NO signed postcard from Al.  Has anyone else had this issue?

The vinyl looks pristine, unplayed (I've now played it and it sounded great, very clean, no pops or clicks).  The record was still sealed and looked to be genuine.  On other people's versions, where was the postcard placed?  Also, some of the font looks fuzzy (the back cover art and the "Recorded at Red Barn Studios..." bit on the inside of the gatefold under the song info).  Is this the same on all the other copies out there?  The pictures aren't particularly great either.  Is this just because the artwork has been blown up for the LP?

I just watched a video on youtube of someone opening a signed version and I could read the font better than my own copy!  I wouldn't have thought anyone would try to bootleg an Al Jardine LP.  It looks like a badly photocopied cover, a bit like my 'fake' butcher Yesterday and Today Beatles LP.

Thank for any info!

I don't know, I'm still waiting my copy. But, I had a bad experience on ebay years ago when I bought a Beatles boxset of 9 cds... I thought it was original... when it arrived I knew there was something wrong, pictures weren't detailed, gatefold cds were broken and.... when I read the credits there was a big surprise, all Beatles names were typed wrong, like Faul McCartney, Pingo Starr and so on... So check the names if everything is correct.
I was totally pissed off!!!

9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Inside Pop footage on: March 15, 2018, 05:10:41 AM
Hi everyone.
I read all the past posts about the Inside Pop film shown on Malcolm Leo's AB. I was wondering if any news came up with that footage, maybe someone has fresh news. Is there any hope to see those reels?

Watching AB or Endless Harmony (...I don't remember right now), at some point it's shown Brian for a few seconds playing at the piano wearing a dark red shirt, he seems really into the song he was playing. Everything was dark... Anyone noticed that? What track was that? If I'm not mistaken I've never heard that in any of the Smile tracks that I heard.

I just want to keep this topic "alive" and not forgotten. In one of those posts guitarfool2002 wrote about Smile: "What we don't know is greater than what we know" (or something like that). Nothing more true.
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: How did people get the Smile tapes back in the day for bootlegs? on: March 06, 2018, 01:26:06 AM
This is very interesting!!
I suppose that the sources of the best quality were taken directly from the original reels or exact copies, we are talking about tapes that are in the hands of high-high-level collectors since the late 60s, maybe friends of friends of friends... I think TBB did not have complete control of their material at some point in their career and maybe someone could have stolen the missing smile tapes and copied the other original tapes with professional equipment. This is just my opinion, but who knows, I like this kind of mystery.
11  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: BEACH BOYS 1968 - LETS BE FRIENDS on: January 19, 2018, 06:04:12 AM
This will bring up my re-mastering of the Friends Album, which is better sounding than you have ever heard. The panorama is enlarged, some parts heretofore buried are now audible, and some sections have been completely re-worked, for the better.

Stephen that sounds AWESOME! Really crystal sound. Thanks al lot.
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / BB Collection quotation on: January 04, 2018, 03:40:43 AM
Hi everyone,
I was wondering how it is possible to have a quotation of my BB records collection (CDs, LPs...), is there a particular website or something?
I have some out of print records/cds and I wondered how much could it be the value.

Thanks
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Your Top 3 Favorite Solo Albums on: November 23, 2017, 08:33:24 AM
Hi
Here is my top 3!

1. DW - Pacific Ocean Blue
Definitely the most underrated solo album in music history! Smiley

2. BW - Imagination
There are two songs that are worth the whole album in my opinion: Cry and Lay Down Burden. This album came out after the loss of Carl, so I' think it's very emotional.

3. BW - I Just Wasn't Made For These Times
I like the type of sound on songs like Love and Mercy and Let The Wind Blow. Different.

It is always hard to list a ranking for a BB fan..

Thanks for sharing!

Vale and Hickory Violet,

I am very new to the board and am just getting into deep tracks and "deep facts." I had no idea of the Dumb Angel-Smile connection. Thanks for the info!

You're welcome! I'm getting into "deep facts" too! Smiley
19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Pet Sounds complete recording sessions on: September 26, 2017, 05:47:49 AM
In order to reconstruct the complete Pet Sounds recording sessions, which sources do you think are needed?
I mean PS Boxset from 97, SOT, Vigotone/YD, PS50th... and so on...
20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: How much of Smiley Smile was really recorded at Brian's home? on: September 26, 2017, 02:01:40 AM
No no my fault I misunderstood.
You're right about SOT, I remember it sounds different from other previous sessions. I do not listen to those sessions for a while, though. I'll check later tonight.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Reel Tapes Library Images on: September 26, 2017, 01:27:07 AM
1. Didn't Brian supposedly record some country album in the early 70's? He was asked to or something? Ok that may be false but I definitely read it somewhere. Could "Dumb Angel" be this country album?

In BB history "Dumb Angel" is considered the inital title for the SMiLE album, so I don't think it's a new project for a country album, that album should have been "Cows in the pasture" which was abandoned by Brian in early 70s.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: How much of Smiley Smile was really recorded at Brian's home? on: September 26, 2017, 01:15:29 AM
Except GV and HV, these tracks were recorded in Brian's home studio I think, tracks like Little Pad or Gettin' Hungry, they sounds "flat" with no reverb.
By the way, I suppose some sessions/tracks/part-of-tracks were taken from the original smile studio tapes and then rearranged.

Wild Honey is mostly from Brian's home in Bel Air, that's why it's consiered a lo-fi album. They wanted to bring back the mood of that specific period, that is to be united around Brian at home; to me, a clear example of that "mood" is the cover of the album who is a part of Brian's window.
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: = Playback = on: September 25, 2017, 06:17:19 AM
I bought the CD version and the LP.
LP is ok, but sadly I have to notice that the CD version looks very cheap, low quality made package. It would have been more appreciated if it could have had a fuller booklet also.

Anyway I hope they'll continue to release material.

25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Master Reel Control File on: September 22, 2017, 11:04:44 AM
Hello Iím very interested in reels tapes!
After many researches, i was wondering if the Master Reel control file sheet was white or yellow, i found both images with different colored pencils over it. Was there a standard in compiling it? I saw labels from Western Recorders and Sunset Sound. Gold Star was white i suppose. What about Columbia Recorders?

Plus, does BB record only on Scotch 3M reels or other labels also?
Thanks
