It would seem that there's pray little to talk about except how to style your hair like Brian's or why the music that made them famous is inadequate.

In other words, the conversations are beginning to scrape the bottom of the barrel.

Back to the lyrics now.  I get it.  When I'm on my deathbed (assuming that's how I exit) it's not the big picture stuff I'll be reflecting on, it'll be the little things of no real significance to any one but me. 

Brian Wilson is the Stolen Moment Man of music. Things like Games Two Can Play, I Went To Sleep, Busy Doin' Nothing, I'd Love Just Once To See You, Everybody Wants To Live, Still I Dream Of It, etc. to infinity. Hell, Chug-A-Lug fits the bill, it may as well be American Graffiti. A root beer run caught in time, all suspects named. I wish I was back at a time when I felt like a cold root beer could save my life.

And that, folks, settles the lyric debate as far as I'm concerned.  Absolutely on the mark.  Sign me up!

Every time I hear Spirit Of America, for instance, the emotion of the melody, the arrangement, the chords, Brian's heart-tugging vocal nearly brings me to tears. Then I realise that he is singing about a guy breaking the land-speed record. This doesn't diminish my appreciation, it heightens it, sends it to the skies. Because that is what reality is, the things that move us in our daily lives are stolen moments, sometimes things that others would deem entirely trivial. The story behind Spirit Of America is LITERAL trivia. But what Brian finds in that trivia, what he scores it to, is the story of a daredevil recordbreaker, smashing boundaries again the odds of naysayers, personifying the pioneer spirit of the country from which he hails.

You know, I just finished watching 'The Tree of Life' 15 minutes ago and goddammit if that isn't the precise notion I took away from it.  That is some profound sh*t.

Anyway, I picked SD (& SN) over Today!.  Today! is better but the latter is more of an energetic all-rounder for me and I can play it any time.

Very 'meh' track on a 'bleh' album, the 'yeah' suite notwithstanding.  Nowhere near the top 10.

I too have heard that the lyrics of 'Feel Flows' are, at least in part, about man fat:  "unfolding, enveloping missiles of soul....white, hot, glistening, shadowy flows".

I also heard a coke binge was involved.

I would like to point out that when everyone was upset about new threads being created about previously discussed topics, posters were actually encouraged to revisit and bump up older threads in order to cut down on clutter. Shouldn't fresh perspectives be welcomed? Perhaps the problem is that the veterans simply think noobs don't have anything worthwhile to contribute. Although that is sometimes the case (Check out all of my posts), some of the new folks have a lot to offer.

So which is it? Anything discussed over a month ago is considered settled? Or can old threads be resurrected without shrieking and the rending of garments?

Precisely.  If we're adopting the philosophy that 'serious scholarly work' goes on here and thus old points of discussion are no longer valid, then would-be-members should have to submit a resume and have it approved by a panel before being able to contribute.  And that would be lame.

Don't forget where we are:  the internet.  This is a message board for fans of 'The Beach Boys'.  We're not curing cancer.

POB hands-down for me.  Love You is an interesting curio but it's closet-listening and too easy to hit 'skip' throughout - POB I can actually play at a party and sway listeners to its charms.

You say 40% of the album is "good to gorgeous" and that equals a 2/10 rating? That'd rather equal a 4/10 rating. 2/10 to me means "crash and burn". Anyway, I'd give it a 7/10.
