Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian Wilson Conversion Mixes...

As inspired by Jeff Mason: ...when trying to make a convert to Brian Wilson's music, are you going to just play someone the hits from 1963 or 1964? Or are you going to offer up Pet Sounds and Smile? Or in my case, will you make a comp of 1967-73 music to REALLY wow them? I won't limit myself or my attempts to make new fans by only doing the hit records. What's your tracklisting for making novitiates? Here's my most recent, 1965-1969: Kiss Me Baby She Knows Me Too Well In The Back Of My Mind The Girl From New York City Girl Don't Tell Me Let Him Run Wild That's Not Me Don't Talk Here Today I Just Wasn't Made For These Times Good Vibrations Vegetables (GVBS) Do You Like Worms? (GVBS) Surf's Up (Demo) Heroes & Villains (Alternate from Smiley twofer) Little Pad Wind Chimes (Smiley Smile) Wonderful (Smiley Smile) Country Air Darlin' (Knebworth) Let The Wind Blow (In Concert) Wake The World Be Here In The Morning Busy Doin' Nothin' Time To Get Alone (Hawthorne) Cabinessence Our Prayer Break Away (Single)

"California girls" and "Let Him Run Wild" were very innovative in their time. Except for that, everything seems to be a step backwards. The Today album was a step up from all summer long. They started singing more emotional songs. The harmonies and arrangements also became more elaborate. I think that Today is the real precursor to pet sounds, not Summer Days and Summer Nights. ...but only if you privilege continuums. 'Summer Days...' is a rockin' and gorgeous sounding album. 'Today!' may seem to indicate a "building" towards something more aesthetically challenging, but isn't such thinking the result of historical interpretation? I love the fact that BW was a mixed bag of goodies - he was all over the place artistically. Ask Ian about 'Party!' which follows both... EDIT: Ian, you clearly have ESP.

If there was room in mine I'd gladly install one. I was thinking of putting a small stereo in there since spending ten minutes pooping in almost silence is pure boredom.
Sounds like you need more fibre in your diet. I'm usually done in under three minutes. Fibre = Time = Money.

I think the instrumental track for "Wonderful" is so unbelievably sad sounding. I was listening to it in the car the other day, stopped at a traffic light, and watching the pedestrian people go about their mundane little journeys (much as I was) was just so sad...and at the same time so comforting, so lovely.
This is the enigma of Smiley for me: so fodaed up, so beautiful.
