Three points I"d like to bring up ..  Do you think Mike's use of the same script has anything to do with AGE..?? senility.. No one has brought that up.. Or obsessive compulsive  disorder ?.. Also im assuming this but... Brian was sued for SUSA melody being too close to Sweet little 16.... OK.. But Brian used Most of Johnny B Goode  intro for FFF.... Why no lawsuit..?.. I remember reading  in 1963 he admitted to using sweet little 16 as a roadmap so to speak to writing SUSA.. Ive always figured the reason he got sued was because he admitted to it in print.. So what's Up with a lawsuit for one but not the other.. Never understood that..

I don't believe much would have changed.. BW was// is still The Producer.. And architect  of the backing tracks + vocal stacks.. He also set the tone of the story line of the songs + wrote words also.. He had the falsetto every one loved and in the beginning Brian + Mike were the main vocalist..  Brian had total veto power on any song and what was released for many years.. What would have changed history more would have been if Brian stayed on as a performing member and not gone away and if he had a large success as a independent record producer.. And of course the drug problem..

Well there are only 12 notes in the western scale so if on purpose or not .. Everything ever recorded in the history of music is gonna remind you of something else.. Especially if you are a working musician.... ( La Bamba.. Twist + Shout.. Good Lovin..}  (  Louie Louie.. Hang On Sloopy]  And of course lets not mention Country Music.. Blues.. Or 50's music at all.. Chuck Berry anyone..??..  Guitar Intro to Fun Fun Fun... Johnny B Goode.. NOT an Attack.. Just sayin.. IMHO.. The key to originality in music is the MELODY over the tried + true chords we all play.. And the arraignment used.. Seems to me that's why Brian Wilson was called a genius.. He had only the 12 notes like the rest of us.. Case in point.. The Warmth of the Sun

I agree with the above post.. The Disney LP is a little uneven due to choice of songs but every thing since TLOS has been stellar.. I believe BW was rejuvenated with finishing SMILE and has stepped up his game.. The monkey on his back is gone..

WELL.. Just an observation.. If it was a HIGH of 74 degrees  7-1-70 in southern California that would be UNUSUAL.. July + August are our hottest months and they are on a regular basis.. Much of the time in the 90's + 100's.. It doesn't cool of till Halloween...

Well I'd ask him what was it like living on the other side.. And what he thought of Brian finishing SMILE and how Carl was doin..  Ask him what changes he would make in his prior life so he could have a better life here with fewer regrets.. Any Messages for Brian or the other guys..??  And I'd tell him come on over anytime when you feel like talking.. I can see Dennis now sittin at a keyboard with his left hand and index finger cupping his left ear and cuddling the mike and singing FOREVER.. The band in heaven + hell is rather large so I don't think he is playing drums.. He is a composer and singer.. Dennis's best music is all about love + tenderness..  A good fit for heaven. I pray he made it..

Cover 4/5 music 3/5... I like this LP but it does have its shortcomings.. HCTN should be the 3:30  or  the 4:30 version.. In those  edit"s  I REALLY like the version of the song..  The vocals + production are great.. If you use the short version of HCTN you have room for 2-3 more tracks.. Added songs of good quality make this LP a 4 instead of a 3.. Anything in the vaults from the 70's will do.. From 93 box set or MIC box would work..  I would call this progressive adult BB music which I do like..  I don't see anything wrong with BB growing up on record with more mature themes..

Now here is a LP that will divide the faithful .. Now  just on sound quality.. Vocal harmonies..  Instrumentation.. etc this is steps above 15BO + Love You..  But the songs seem to divide people here.. Who likes or prefers  certain songs.. But when this came out in 1978 the faithfull accepted it to a certain degree.. But it didn't do well because they lost a lot of fans after 1976.. A lot of people casual fans thought they were an oldies act after 2 weird albums in a row.. And they never quite recovered from that.. I like 8 of the 12 songs in varying degrees.. Don't like WOC... BOP..  HLTB... PS...  At this point its diminishing returns..  Concerts sell out.. LP"S so so.. The damage has been done by inconsistent records and lots of bad press for fighting.. drugs.. shows start to get sloppy.. etc.. The faitfull remain and the rest scatter.. Thanks to new generations growing up and discovering BB they will always have an audience..  Music 3/5  Cover art 3/5..

Jeez 16 pages for LOVE YOU..    Well I read 4-5 pages and I gave up.. Heck everybody has said everything there is to say..   My reaction to this LP was SHOCK.. I played it many times to make sure I got it.. Well I could criticize production/ rough  vocals / instrumentation / trite lyrics / goofy synths  /  off key vocals / very little guitar / no trade mark BB harmonies /   Have I left anything out.? ..  So please explain how after 37 years I  STILL listen to this album..  I SWEAR I just don't know but I do.. I think im sick.. I know what it is.. Im afflicted with a virus known as Wilson fever.. And its contagious..!  I would never play this album for anyone but me.. No one is gonna understand this music but another soul afflicted with the same virus..  To listen to this music and use your imagination to find the true gems takes patience and love.. IMHO.. The true gems are:  Airplane ..IBHN.. IWPYU .. TNWSY.. SS.. HDTH.. GT.. LUGOTW... Mona.. And that still leaves 5 more songs and there are a couple I REALLY don't like.. LIAW  +  JC.. So that still leaves  3 so so songs..   JEEZ are you kidding me.!  If I was recording this either as a demo or a finished product I would never release this at all.. Shows how much I know.. So is Brian Wilson a genius or crazy..??  Are we crazy.. Easy to please ..Or tone deaf..?   I don't know but ill leave it to all of you to decide.... While its not close to being their best.. Listening for 37 years must mean something... What does that mean..?  3.5/5  cover art 2/5

When this LP came out it was HUGE.. You had the Brian's back campaign.. Cover story in Rolling Stone.. A huge stadium tour with BW..  The biggest audiences in USA.. You had the TV special impact.. And if you lived in southern California you could go to the beach and later cruise over to Brother studio's.. Then maybe cruise by Brian's house in Bel Air.. You had an all day BB special on FM radio playin rare tracks.. Articles in all kind of magazines..The world was at our finger tips.. So what about LP.?.. WELL.. Out of 15 songs there are at least 4 total poop.. More if you are  more discriminating..  Production was muddy + vocals are rough.. Live they sounded still like BB.. But on this record not so much.. VERY confusing record.. Has BW lost it..? Does everyone have a sore throat..? When I first bought this I was so hungry for new BB I ate it up..  But it didnt take to long to realize disappointment in this record.. And it hurt momentum .. And Love You did more of the same..   To me thee are 5 stand out tracks.. 5 OK songs and 5 POOP..  It was a great time to be a BB fan.. But they fumbled the ball like Smiley Smile.. And it wouldn't be the last time either.. But I love The Beach Boys and I knew their would be more great stuff comin.. And it still does to this day... Cover art 4/5... Music 3/5

Thank you.. I saw BB twice in 73.. { May 73 + 12-31-73 } and twice in 74.. and every year after.. If I told you how many times I've seen BB since that 1st show you would think im NUTS..!! Lets say DEADHEAD..! LOL.. I didn't get to see them before 73 because I wasn't aware how to find out ticket's were available.. Found out there were ad's in LA Times calendar section of the paper.. Now you seeing BB in 69 -72 that must have been something..?? ..  You saw BB perform songs that haven't been performed since..!

Yea when they compiled the fairytale music and put it on the 93 box set I was overjoyed.. Great music.. Dare I say a little Smile ish..?  Maybe it reminds me of the music box Bicycle Rider refrain..?  I always wondered what Reprise reps said when Carl forced  the fairytale onto a separate bonus record.. And Brian must have been very fragile to write that ..  Which now makes me think of Child of Winter for some reason..

Another Lp that attracted the hippie//stoner crowd..  This Lp + Surfs Up LP  went beyond the core BB audience .. This LP was VERY popular in its day.. Cover art OK ///  music 4/5  .. The only song here that  bothers me  is Fairytale  // Mt Vernon.. Yea I know im in the minority here.. BUT.. I like the back ground music a lot but the rest of it is a children's record which doesn't interest me one bit.. I find a full grown adult recording + writing this then throwing a fit when it wasn't going to be included on  the lp alarming.. The rest of the LP is very good and my only other criticism  is Steamboat a little to long for my taste..

Music 4/5.. cover art.. OK..  I can certainly say out of 8 tracks that 6 are great and 2 are BORING.... HODB + MIG.. Dennis"s song IMHO is about the worst song he ever recorded.. .. Overblown.. Boring.. Heavy Handed.. Muddy..  Now I find the other 6 to be very good to excellent.. The band is in transition but successful .. DW had better songs stockpiled..  When this came out I remember hearing Marcella + He Come Down on the radio a number of times.. I guess I should add that I find Cuddle Up to be .. Precious.. Tender... Awesome.. And ATIT a total home run of serenity and good vibes..

Cover Art 5/5  Music 4/5.. the LP that made BB hip in hippie //stoner circles.. Boy was I glad to come out of the closet and yell BEACH BOYS.. This LP + 2 part Rolling Stone article + their live show put them back on the map.. !!  I was vindicated and never had to pretend about the BB ever again.. 2 songs I DONT like and should have been replaced with Dennis songs are : SDT + ADITLOAT.. 1st one lousy lyrics and the siren drives me NUTS.. 2nd one This needs a BW lead vocal + a full band arraignment and it would be great..

Album + cover art.. 5/5.. Music 5/5.. The only track im not crazy about is GTKTW.. Altho I don't skip it either.. Summer of 1970 this was a guilty pleasure that I only played when I was alone.. BB very unhip at the time and I was laughed at when I played it at a couple of party's .. I knew it was excellent but back in those hippie macho days this was too light + tender for the masses .. Doesn't matter quality always  shines thru.. A true group effort  from everyone and a true desert island disk..
