In total agreement with Mr Doe and Pretty Funky, which may not make me Ms. Popular, but nevertheless...totally honest.

Go ahead and encourage him!! I dig the guy and all his posts. I have even felt the wrath of AGD and wear my wounds proudly like battle scars!! Razz Razz Razz

Have you discussed your masochistic tendencies with your psycho analyst lately, jimmy?

I jest! I jest!

I too suffer the Wrath of Doe,  over the layout of the BBB mag, amongst  other things.   Don't ever tell him this, will you, but he is often right.

And he does stroke his beard before he gives you an answer.

Mike Love is a great singer and a great frontman.  I agree with Jaspy and Andrew.  My one of my ever-favourite Mike Love vocals is "Kiss Me Baby". Just listen to his range...

Sigh...you can tell a Canadian from an American by the way they pronounce certain words.

Anyway...this is a great digression from us Brits being "devastated", isn't it?  Grin

When I lived in the States, I was frequently approached by delightful Americans (and one or two not so delightful) asking me things such as, "I have a cousin called John who lives in Newcastle!  Do you know him?"   and "Gee...you're from England.  Did you live in London?  And is that's right near Edinburgh, right?".

And yes, actually, I do think that all of these charming people were absolutely serious.

 Shocked

Thanks, Jay. It was FUN and I think that came over in the performance!

AGD really DID wear a blue bathrobe for the first performance, in Lutterworth (not sure what happened for East Kilbride...?) and was great as BW, Rob Dean is an amazing DW impersonator (as well as, you may have noticed already, a cracking drummer!) and Sean Macreavy is one of my favourite singers - has always been, since I heard him at a Stomp Convention, with his lyrics he had written for a competition for "Let's Go Away For Awhile". It is on You Tube, if anyone would like to check that out!

Special mention should be given here to bandmate Stephen Fairweather (the guy at the back, behind Francis and I), on lead guitar.  His parts seem to have been mixed down a little, but he also did an amazing job - he was determined to be very faithful to the album - and he was.

What is possibly interesting too is that as we all live in different parts of the country, early rehearsals were done in small groups, with parts recorded for us by Sean (our band leader), so we only got together at Sean's college (somewhere near Birmingham) for a couple of rehearsals - and even then not everyone could make it, as two members came from north of Scotland.

Thanks for the nice comments about IWTPYU, Jay - the ending of SS should haver been as good as that; it certainly was, in Lutterworth, so hey - maybe there is something in that magic blue robe, hmm? Smiley

Francis is the lovely bloke front stage (left on your screen), playing keyboard, next to Sean Macreavy. A finer gentleman you could not wish to meet.

Not all our Farty Synths were at our event in December, but our next is already in the making and we hope most, if not all, will be there!

BBB will be in LIVERPOOOL, at the same time as the International Pop Overthrow, precisely: SATURDAY 19TH MAY 2012, when we will be taking over :
The Lomax
34  Cumberland Street,
Liverpool,
L1 6BU

This venue is very close to both the Cavern Club and The Cavern itself; both locations are being used for The International Pop Overthrow. Our “Get Together” will be from 1-6pm and then those that wish to, can go and enjoy the acts offered by the IPO (to be recommended). In fact, several of our bands will also be playing the IPO also, which makes things even more exciting!

This will be a casual get together and hopefully a nice relaxed time to be enjoyed by all, as our musicians play for us, we have a good old singsong, we get to celebrate the Reunion Tour, talk Beach Boys and who knows what can happen on the day!

All welcome,whoever and wherever!

Speaking of Farty Synths - here is the Beach Boys Britain band of the same name and featuring your very own AGD and Rob Dean. The band is headed up by Sean Macreavy and band members include the lovely Synthesiser Patel and Mr Bass Farty Synth himself: the wonderful Jimmy Hughes....and yes, that's me, sporting AGD's infamous black hat.

Woah! AGD has a killer singing voice!

Yup - been known to drop a fully-grown bull elephant at 100 paces.  Grin
All joking aside, you NAILED Solar System.  Grin

Yes, he did, Jay, most certainly.   I think all the vocals for that performance were pretty "spot on"...even I didn't cringe (too much) at my mimicry of dear Marilyn, even to the point of American pronunciations,  for which my muso. non BB pals took the proverbial of, later!

And to AGD, Sean,. Rob,  Synthesiser, Paul, Jimmy, Daniel and Alex, plus  Stephen & Elaine - great kudos for all the hard work and care - but mostly the fun we had!
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The origin of the farty synth ? on: March 04, 2012, 02:28:49 PM
I'm gutted I didn't know about the Love You thing in East Kilbride, I would've loved to be there. Andrew does indeed have a great voice, Rob's take on Dennis is amazing too!

Did you listen to the whole thing, Craig?  it was not perfect, by any means; but it was LIVE and it was FUN. I feel we did the closing harmonies (Sean Macreavy's idea) on "Solar System" much better in Lutterworth, though...

Speaking of "Love You" reminds me of the time when (pardon the name drop, but it's true!) we were having dinner with Billy Hinsche and Jeffery Foskett and Jeffrey turned to AGD and asked him to explain why the fans so loved "Love You"!

I was going to compliment The Farty Synths, but then they called "Ding Dang" the worst BB song ever as they proceeded to butcher Brian's piano part.

HOW DARE THEY

Oh, that was such fun to err..."sing" and  getting our "ooo"s,  "dings" and "dangs" all in the right places was an achievement in itself !  I am so glad you like it, Dada! Love

Hello SSDNers

Long time, no speak.  However, just a word or two, to let you know that  AGD is suffering from a very, very  poorly laptop.  He is not, as you can imagine, a Very Happy Bunny about this.  Over at BBB, we're waiting for him to complete the BBB Newsletter, so even the timing is not the best .

Hopefully though. he'll be back with you, just as soon as he can...

Best to all on here. meanwhlie...and no doubt, see many of you in September!

21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Update from Bruce: Reagan Tribute on: February 05, 2011, 05:40:11 PM

Last night our band, along with Mike, Al, and myself, got together for a run through of tonight's short BB set which is part of the Ronald Reagan birthday program. We all met in the library room of the Westlake Four Seasons for an hour and a half and we quite easily refocused a few vocal parts. It was easy, fun, and a pleasure to sing once again with Al.

Scott Totten was his 'usual great BB music director self' and he quickly pulled everything together last night. Matt Jardine was also there and I think he might join us tonight for a couple of songs along with John Stamos.

I'm disappointed that Brian Wilson is unavailable for this event and I know he would have had a really great musical evening rehearsing the music. Scott took a few photos of the song run through and a partial video of us going over "Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring" even though we won't be singing it tonight.

It was a perfect Friday night in Southern California!

Wee Helper -  Grin and maybe a  Roll Eyes

However, may I be cheeky here and let you all know that Beach Boys Britain is going to hold an event next year, in July 2011 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Beach Boys.

Some details here of plans so far:

TO ALL BEACH BOYS FRIENDS, MUSICIAN FRIENDS AND LOVERS OF PEACE AND HARMONY

After a lovely and inspiring chat with my "Ideas Man" (aka James Crowther) and also after such a fantastic experience at this year's International Pop Overthrow Festival in Liverpool this year, we set our heads to work on what we could do for a Beach Boys Britain celebration, next year (2011) of 50 years of wonderful music and also celebrating that we know so many wonderful and talented musicians, Beach Boy historians and all generally good people. It NEEDS to be celebrated..and even those of us who have not seen eye to eye over the past few years for various reasons, could perhaps put aside the negativtiy and celebrate the POSITIVITY of this particular event.

So, having set the scene above, our idea is to get together as many of you as we can, for a day of fun and music, with all the people who have ever been connected by great music. Friendships were MADE with all this, in some cases we're asking that bygones BE bygones and a fresh "platter" presented for this, which could turn out to be a very special day, indeed.

An  event i s being planned for the weekend of July 9th and 10th 2011,  where great musicians and friends, old and new, would get together to perform not NECESSARILY Beach Boys Music, but the music that they make plus the music that inspired them to do what they do, in the first place. We would hope to tempt certain bands out of "retirement", just for this event or even just to come along for the fun of it and meet up with a lot of like-minded people.

OK - so it's going to (hopefully) be a big project - and one that I am most willing to work for, along with James and maybe one or two of you, even for old times sake and for the sake of the music? The one thing I would say is that since I would be the main co-ordinator, I would hope that this event could be staged in the Midlands of England (where I live!) which has its own "heart" significance..at The Wycliffe Rooms in Lutterworth - and is the home of so many great Beach Boys Britain events, where Jeffrey Foskett, Billy Hinsche, Alan Boyd, Trisha Campo, Stan Shapiro, Stevie Kalinich and our own Sean Macreavy and Andrew G. Doe have all graced the stage.

Suggestions, offers and thoughts most welcome... RSVP, hopefully in the affirmative...

We have had quite a lot of interest so far, by the way...
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Scott Totten on: June 04, 2010, 07:17:31 AM
OH NO!  This is another lovely person who a bod or two around here is choosing to take pot shots at.  Please STOP IT. It should be beneath you to act in this way.  Civility costs nothing, but reaps many rewards...

Please appreciate how kind it is for Scott to post on your Board and know that he does not HAVE to do this for you.  He's doing it because he is very kindly sharing information that is fascinting for us fans and being most gracious at the same time.

I won't say any more as I am feeling very cross about this, but please and for Goodness Sake...show some manners.  I can't find an "angry" emotion explicit enough to show just how I feel.

With respect.

We were sitting a few stalls in front of them in the RFH.

Hey its already been done - Just ask AGD !!!!!
A bunch of Musicians (and Members of Beach Boys Britain) did two shows with the whole album live , and in the correct order (at a couple of BBB Fan Conventions).........Including Moog and Farty Synths (and AGD doing a guest lead vocal :-) )
There are some rather good results to these shows , just might have to dig them out sometime

Sorry, Rob D - just seen this!  Yes, indeed...and a fine time was had by both band and audience!  There is both photographic and audio/visual "evidence" and you are one fine drummer, Sir!  Likewise, all the guys (and gals, she says modestly...) had a blast those 2 days. Happy times and happy memories, especially of Sean Macreavy ("Carl"), you ("Dennis"), AGD (fab BW impersonations), Paul Baker and Jimmy Hughes (aka Mr Farty Synth himself!). Thanks for the memory...and who knows, maybe one day we'll "Do It Again"! Oh no - sorry - wrong album ;-)
