This is really good stuff. I always kinda liked this song, and it's nice to hear someone cover it.
2  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: Learning the Mandolin on: October 15, 2011, 03:05:36 AM
A mandolin is tuned quite like a fiddle. Think of the 1st four strings of a guitar, inverted, where the low E on the guitar is now your highest string, followed by the A, the D, and the G string being your low note. If you are any good at all at playing guitar chords backwards, you will get a kick out of the mandolin right away...Paul

This is a collection celebrating the music of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys. Not so much their hits, but some of the deeper album tracks that slowly worked their way into my brain and became some of my favorites.  All instruments, vocals, mixing and post-production mastering by Paul McClelland.

2) Honkin Down the Highway (B. Wilson)
3) With Me Tonight (B. Wilson)
4) Roller Skating Child (B. Wilson)
5) I'm Broke (B. Wilson)
6) It's OK (B. Wilson-M. Love)
7) Shortenin Bread (trad)
Cool That Same Song (B. Wilson)
9) God Please Let Us Go On This Way (B. Wilson-M. Love)
10) Back Home (B. Wilson)
11) Little Pad (B. Wilson)
12) Airplane (B. Wilson)

13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why I like the Beach Boys on: January 20, 2008, 04:05:54 AM
I like the Beach Boys for many reasons. Among the top: It is a band with a sound dripping with positive energy. The songs make me feel real good, and start any day in an upbeat mood. The harmonies are uplifting, the arrangements imaginative, and the songwriting creative.
A Big reason I like the Boys is because their songs can be listened too on many different levels. I can take in the whole sound, or I can listen to harmonic arrangements and be amazed, or I can listen to the musicianship and be amazed, and always hear something new everytime I listen, because so much is in there. That's part of what makes the music and the sound timeless.

It is outstanding, creative, haunting , imaginative...Stephen, welcome back. I heard a few cuts off of this cd a couple of years ago. Last I heard you were getting a recording deal (that must have been the one that fell thru). I am hoping your life is in a better place at this writing, and would love to see that reflected in some music. A tad more 'positive energy' and  feel would send future songs over the top into the stratosphere. Continued success, and I can't pull away from your music non-stop just yet. Give me a few more days.

It's Natural. and I don't think that was the 'trick' Buffett was refering to.

18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: BRIAN WILSON COVERS HERMAN'S HERMITS CLASSIC FOR NEW ALBUM on: November 28, 2007, 02:11:44 PM
"The environment that Brian creates has a lot to do with the fact that he carries with him a childlike innocence and spontaneity. That is one facet to his brilliance, and yet he is like a savant. You have to care for and nurture that quality because he brings out a protective nature in those around him."

Those are 3 of the best sentences I have seen about Brian Wilson in a long long time. A concise and accurate observation of what makes up the soul of this particular artist.

If he hadn't been a Beach Boy he would never have stood out. ...................................

HuhHuh      Now THERE'S an interesting little comment you don't hear every day about Brian.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: British Beach Boys-like band you should hear!! on: October 20, 2007, 04:10:07 PM
On the new Super Furry Animals cd, it's impossible to listen to 'the gift that keeps giving' and not think of circa 1969 BB's. The majority of the album has that vibe.  "Hey, Venus!' should be found, and listened to, especially by the folks on this board, who would appeciate what they are doing in these songs more than most others, I believe.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Favourite obscure vocal part? on: October 15, 2007, 10:14:40 AM
Brian's understated and totally gorgeous falsetto lead in the early song, "Lana"....in 2nd place, Mike's 'I got the pink slip daddy' (not really that obscure)  ..3rd place, the original Dennis vocal on "You are my sunshine"

Starbucks should handle the distribution of TLOS, if possible. They are putting out Joni Mitchells new music soon,  took care of Sir Pauls new one, why not Brian's?
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: That Lucky Old Sun studio album in spring? on: September 28, 2007, 09:51:56 AM
....and some voice correction if he needs it. I can live with that.
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Spector mistrial on: September 27, 2007, 03:41:10 PM
I caught a little of that trial shortly after Labor Day on Court TV, and the prosecution was giving its summation, closing arguments, and to my ears and eyes, they (he) appeared a bit cocky, like this was going to be an open and shut case..wham bam guilty, off to jail. But no one should treat a murder case as if it is already won. Not in LA anyway. If you ever find yourself on trial for murder, you better pray you are in Los Angeles. You'll be home in time for dinner.
