when the industry gets it together to introduce something that is

compact
funky (not like PONO)
highest quality sound
reasonably priced

then 40 plusses in particular will be falling over themselves to upgrade their collection of most cherished music.

5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian charts at #55 in UK album Top 100 on: September 13, 2010, 04:36:25 PM
I'm sure Brian would be welcomed onto the show if he were available to play it.

BTW will there be a CD/DVD release? I remember AGD thought that there would when the album was in production.

Let's give Brian a chance to strap on the bass on at least one number and would love to hear Matt Jardine repeat his wonderful vocals at the end of "All This Is That" like he did at the Paramount 93 concert

A testament to the durability of the material and reaffirming that they are THE sunshine band.
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Celebrity Appreciation for BW/BB lesser known material on: June 08, 2010, 01:51:12 AM
There are versions of two "Pet Sounds" numbers on the Elvis Costello/Anne Sofie von Otter album "For The Stars".

They are

"Don't Talk" and "You Still Believe In Me".

Worth a listen.

I was determined to see this movie.

I live in Manchester UK and via the movie's website found that there were due to be screenings during a film festival in Glasgow over the weekend of my birthday in February last year but my employer could not spare me so I had to abandon that plan.
I registered on the website for e-mail updates and waited for either an official DVD release or more UK screenings but to no avail so I eventually took the torrent option and watched this wonderful movie that way.
In an e-mail brief Danny is savvy enough to recognise that many people will go down that road and if we've downloaded or shared the film urges us to make a donation which I have done and consider it money well spent.
Every fan of The Beach Boys and 60's music in general should see this movie.

I named a (tench) pet fish I once had "Benmont".

Love the work of the human BT.

12  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / BB tribute band spread Good TV Vibes! on: October 09, 2009, 09:07:06 AM
UK tribute band The Beached Boys recently did the community proud by winning on BBC "Eggheads" quiz show.

For those unfamiliar with the "Eggheads" format, a resident team of quiz champs are challenged by a different team each day and the prize money rolls over until the resident tem is beaten. I would guess that only 1 in 20 teams is successful so it was indeed a great achievement for The Boys to emerge victorious.

Well done Boys!  Smokin

Andrew, you're a friend to us all.

Really sorry that this painful day has come to you.

Best wishes to you and yours.

Very sad to lose this great musician at such a relatively early age.

I see that he spent his retirement in Yakima WA, so at least he was guaranteed some good microbrews in his twilight years!

I found this link to a list of his musical contributions. Impressive indeed.

R.I.P. Larry.
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: TV Alert!!! Fox News Friday Aug 7th 10PM est on: August 08, 2009, 09:29:51 AM
There's a Manson documentary on UK Channel Five on Monday 10th (repeated Wed 12th on sister station Five US) at 2200 BST. It's a 2 hour show so should be pretty in depth.

Don't know for sure how much BB content there will be but surely there will be some.
Would be happier if it were a BBC show as Five are a bit sensationalist but let's see  Undecided

I remember that there was actually a punk bank called The Bleach Boys in the 70's.

Their first single was called "Chloroform".

A bit of info here;

I tried to find the version that Brian must have heard to turn him onto the song, but to no avail.

One day I'll make a cd-R with as many BB-related original versions as possible for my own amusement. I've got quite a few already but "Awake" eludes me  Sad

19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Wombling USA on: January 09, 2009, 01:32:53 PM
I have the CD version with the Roy Wood/Wombles tracks (their aesthetic integrity is open to debate !  LOL )   but the Wombling USA track was, as you say, only on the cassette version. Recorded as part of a bid to make it big in the States, but ultimately not released there, apparently.  Someone must have an MP3 though, huh?

Speaking of Roy Wood (I've asked before but nobody replyed) does anyone know if "Honeycomb" by BB/Wizzard still exists or was it destroyed?

Sure love to "discuss" it with somebody  Wink
20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Recent setlist/s of theMike/Bruce touring group on: October 18, 2008, 08:17:39 AM
I saw M & B's Boys in Manchester UK in April of this year and was very pleasantly surprised by both the performance and the setlist.

They played 53 songs to a very appreciative audience and some of the more surprising (to me) songs played were;

Don't Back Down, Good Timin', Good To My Baby, Forever (David Marks:vox), Ole Betsy, Sail On Sailor, All This Is That and 'Til I Die.

Before attending I was firmly in the "Brian" camp and take a more balanced view now.

I would very happily attend shows of either act now.

Scott

I love "Old Betsy".
A true curio.

Leave it in!
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: CWF event announcement on: September 19, 2008, 10:22:34 PM
Looks superb.

However from the UK it's unrealistic of me to think it anything but a beautiful Californian dream.  Sad

We are well served by Brian and the Mike & Bruce Boys tours but we get very little of the related performers on these shores.
Not criticizing them as I know that there are reasons of age and high tour costs etc. just stating a view and I hope that those who can attend do so.

From what I've heard of the show I would have loved to have been there.
Been way too long  Cool since I seen them, nearly a year FFS  Wink
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: POB Bambu on Vinyl! on: July 04, 2008, 04:37:14 PM
Have ordered (but not yet received) it from HMV in UK.
Was intending to just listen to CD version and keep the vinyl unopened for posterity. Now looks like I'll have to get another one to hear what I'm missing and add it to my CD's of the 77 LP done as a vinyl transfer, CiscoDisc bootleg and promo DVD-A of POB in 5:1 Stereo.
