Al mentioned that The Night Was So Young hadn’t been ever performed by The Beach Boys.
However, Brian and his band did perform it, at least during the early portion of the Pet Sounds tour. I remember hearing it at the Saenger in New Orleans in early 2017.
Wish I could get to one of these upcoming shows.

Great topic.
Best I can come up with, half asleep at a coffeehouse (caffeine not doing its job lol) is Paul Simon’s “A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest” from The Boxer.

Welcome back RangeRoverA1! Have been thinking about you over the past years. Hope you have fared well in these crazy times.
4  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: RIP Melinda Kay Ledbetter Wilson (1946-2024) on: February 09, 2024, 09:17:59 PM
Everyone trying to contact Brian at that time was "screened", whether by phone or in person. And if you talk to people who were involved, it went far beyond screening calls with Landy's attempts to shut off outside contact with Brian unless it was strictly monitored and controlled. That's fact, and it was not a good scene. Anyone who defends Landy in this later phase of his involvement is delusional.

One of the worst instances of this was mentioned in Mike’s autobiography. Gary Usher was trying to contact Brian to let him know about his terminal illness and Landy told everyone not to let Brian know. Fortunately someone with a conscience did let Brian know, and the two of them met for a couple of times (mentioned in The Wilson Project) before Usher passed away.

I’m back after 6 months without internet access… will be here more often now.

So happy! Realized that you hadn’t been online for a number of months and I was getting worried.

Anybody pre-order the coloring book yet? Whoever orders the book can download and print one of the pages. Woo-hoo!

That’s the best I can do for now    Grin

“ Please tell him thank you,” Mr Al-Mateen said. “Please tell him thank you for everything.”

Yes, thank you, dear Brian. Smiley

The “Reinventing Elvis” documentary will be shown in select US theaters on Sunday, July 30. It’s 96 minutes long.
There’s one small suburban theater about an hour away from me showing it. Strange that no theaters in New Orleans are showing it. Anyway, I probably won’t be able to go and I don’t have Paramount+ .
My “Elvis freak” sister might go — if so I’ll ask her what she thought about it, etc.

Thanks for your Old Time Rockers postings.

Yes, according to Al’s FB, it’s on starting today.

Listening now - Dennis singing Wild Situation  Cheesy

Followed by Surf’s Up …

For those with Sirius/XM access, there was a tribute to Brian on The Beatles Channel.
On Demand, Way Beyond Compare:Beatles Rarities with Tom Frangione.

Songs include:
A Friend Like You
Wanderlust (Brian’s cover)
Vegetables
You Still Believe in Me -Paul said he really likes this song

Songs and commentary. Interview with Brian who was in fine form. I guess you all had heard it but it’s the first for me. He played a bit of Hey Jude, and She’s Leaving Home (which he said made Marilyn cry when she heard Paul play it).

He said that a couple of Beatles moments “scared” him -the final chord in A Day in the Life and Paul’s scream in Hey Jude.

Finished with BBs live version of Back in the USSR.

Just to put it out there that New Orleans station WRBH, a station geared to the Blind, is reading I Am Brian Wilson as their featured Biography over the next few weeks. It will air a couple of times on Sundays and once early on Mondays.
This station reads various books, magazines, the daily local newspaper among other things.
WRBH.org to check out schedule. Great station.

Just got it from ITunes. An hour early (it’s 11 pm, 1 Dec)
Giving at least part of it a listen tonight. Sounds great so far.

A few years back, during a particularly stressful time, I would wake up to the refrain to “Hawaii”. Lasted for months before it went away. Head Spin
16  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Ramsey Lewis RIP on: September 12, 2022, 05:48:36 PM
The great Jazz pianist, Ramsey Lewis, has passed away at the age of 87.
He is best known for the classic “The In Crowd”.
This song was played during the pool party scene in the movie Love and Mercy (indicating that Brian was becoming “cool”)
RIP.

Yes I’ve never understood the timing of this station
Since The Beach Boys are considered to be a “fun and sun” group, I’d think that the station would stay on through Labor Day (US holiday, first Monday of September, generally considered to be the end of the Summer season).

Ha, The Surfer Moon.
Guess it depends on when one listened to it. Seems like they played Susie Cincinnati practically every hour with me.  Grin

Julian Lennon just turned 59
I had totally forgotten about his 1984 album, Valotte. Just listened to the title track plus a few others. Pretty good stuff.

Just for a chuckle, there are a group of Elvis fans who are parading during the Mardi Gras season in New Orleans. Have been doing it for almost 20 years. They are called the Krewe of the Rolling Elvi.

If you need any help in securing (https:) the website or updating the forum software, feel free to send me a PM. I move websites regularly between servers as it's part of my day job...do all the usual maintenance required etc to keep everything running smoothly. I would say they are generally smallish sites though and this one is huge but happy to have a look. Biggest thing for here is making sure everything is backed up before making changes.

That would be great if it could be done. Don’t like the “not secure” warnings every time I wish to check up on things here.

Just announced -New Orleans Jazz &Heritage Festival canceled.
Don’t know if this was premature on the organization’s part. But COVID is super bad down in these parts right now.
Anyway, Beach Boys won’t be performing.
Wondering if the Biloxi shows will still go on?

Rick Nelson had some really fine country rock in the late 60s -early 70s with his Stone Canyon Band. Had a hit with “Garden Party.” And second the earlier suggestion of his Live at the Troubadour album
