QUESTIONs...
1) Is the AF mastered in HDCD? 2) If so, I'm surprised. Isn't Hoffman and crew anti-hdcd? Something about HDCD being lower quality on non-hdcd players.
I personally like HDCD. I have a HDCD-capable player...and I think there's a little more fullness and depth on the HDCD discs. A little less flat...more 3-D.
Yes, the CD is HDCD encoded. I know there are differing opinions as to whether the encoding affects the sound when played back on non-HDCD equipment, but the fact that both Hoffman and Linnett are reguarly using it makes me think it doesn't adversely affect it. At least I've never noticed anything "wrong" while playing back any of Linnett's HDCD discs back on non-HDCD players. I agree with your assessments as well - that playing HDCD discs on non-HDCD equipment is fine. I just thought that it was the Hoffman-folks who railed against it. Well, great I guess it's settled!yeah the hoffmen guys rail against alot of stuff they just don't understand; now hdcd is ok 'cause hoff does it. furthermore, I would'nt take anything the man says with a grain of salt. I still think the best version is the CATP vinyl twofer, but that's me, I've never heard a bad version of this album.

I think its the single SOT label version. Its got a nice track list, some good stuff on there. Off the top of my head, its got the "rock me henry" wonderful, stereo versions of some tracks, a bunch of stuff that SOT put together from what they had access to, from the session reels I think, plus some box set stuff too to fill in the gaps.
I'm interested in the 1983 version myself. Is this the version that had the full color repro booklet?

I noticed that the tracking for 'don't talk'' is absent from the set and all boots that I've seen. is there any snippet that exists?
also, mike's lead on IWFTD, is this the version with the beach boys where brian wasn't satisfied and erased everyone's vocals and replaced them with his own?
finally, does 'You still believe' on the set feature a diffrent vocalist?

didn't it have something to do with when you flip a rock over, there's usually worms underneath?
I just thought it started out on a play on "dig" both as in "use a spade or shovel" and as in "like". "Do You Dig Worms?" in the garden, kinda makes sense, and from there it's a short jump to "dig = like". forgot about that other title. that's probably right. I think those all those titles were brian's along with the windchime lyrics.

yeah, I think brian usually uses the sax pretty tastefully. As a bad example, joe thomas' sax solos in imagination. There was definately a cheesey vibe there. it can ruin a song for sure.
speaking of the sax in gok, what point in the finished version does it occur. I cant really imagine a sax there, but maybe it fits?

I remember seeing a single brother version back around 2003. The store had tons of them, but I didn't pick one up at the time. I just got the SOT vinyl last year at a shop and I think the quality is really good. Some of the stuff form the box set is in stereo on this one, plus it has a couple unreleased bits like rock me henry.
