1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Playlist challenge on: February 18, 2018, 04:40:29 PM
Hey people.

I was just trying to get a fresh take on some good music and make a playlist from some recent stuff that would make a good fit. I know some of TWGMTR had genesis from the Imagination sessions.

If i was to combine songs from Imagination, TWGMR, even Lucky Old Sun , Postcards and No Pier Pressure, could someone please suggest a good 20 track playlist even if it includes some of the spoken word stuff that would fit together nicely.

I look forward to your suggestions and opinions and I apologise if I am treading on recent old ground.

Thanks and all the best.

Hey Guys.

I could not make the get together, how'd everyone enjoy the concert. It was fantastic in that setting.

For be the best BW show I have seen out of three so far and what a fantastic set list. Some deep cuts outside the album play through. Matt was  outstanding and Al was in fine voice.

Hope everyone in Sydney had a great time.

4  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Beach Boys Australia Magazine and other fanzines on: July 24, 2012, 03:40:51 AM
Hey Fellow BB Fans

I am just wondering if there are any compilations out there of fan club magazine articles such as Beach Boys Australia and Stomp and if so maybe a little direction where to locate possibly purchasing from. I was a member of the Australian club for a few years in the mid 80's and they were a great read.

Thanks and all the best.

7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Having fun with a Video Editor - "Road to Reunion" on: May 31, 2012, 06:23:43 PM
Hey Fellow Beach Boys fans,

I am going to have a bit of fun with a new bit of video editing software before I attack the family videos. I thought I'd have a bit of fun and document a few videos for this Beach Boys reunion, particularly as it does not look likely we will see them here "down under"

I thought I'd call it "Road to Reunion" and I thought I'd use a starting point of the 2006 rooftop. Could I ask for some pointers and youtube links for any suggestions. I wanted to use the best youtube footage for the concert deeper cuts such as It's OK, I just Wasn't Made For These Times, This Whole World, Add Some Music and the two tribute songs, any interviews and any suggestions from the Smile Webisodes. I'll also be using the promos just put up as well as the QVC footage.

Any suggestions for a list and links would be most appreciated.

All the best.

Would it be possible they may only record a limited number of really good new tracks and release them amongst a Beatles Anthology type set of releases. Say double sets from each era of differrent takes and demos with these new tracks.

Instead of 1 long tour that would just not work do a lesser number of excellent longer quality shows based around Smile and these sets.

Any thoughts to content of these possible sets?

Hey People,

Can anyone shed any light on a track Mike and Bruce and the band once perfomed for the Country Music channel that used the lyrics Make Love Not War. No to bad a track by my ears.
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Assistance with a Carl compilation on: May 26, 2011, 10:28:14 PM
Hey Fellow "smilers"

I was just after some advice in making a personal Carl Wilson compilation cd, kind of an addition to the Billy H DVD.

I am looking for some suggestions for tunes, be it live or studio that have great Carl vocals/performances, even if they are just cameos like for example on Kokomo. Even any live takes that may standout would be a great reference point. I have a couple such as Caroline No and Sufer Girl from the Paramount rehearsals and the better Like A Brother tracks.

Any input would be much apreciated.

Thanks and all the best.

Hey Wee Helper

I think a couple of things would be great-:

 - a Beatles Anthology type release, three lots of 2-3 disc sets spread over a year, say Anthology 1 would be early to mid 60's, Anthology 2 would be late 60's to mid 70's and then Anthology 3 would be late 70's to say '96 including demo's, home tapes, outtakes, vocal isolations and rehearsals, no live stuff and maybe a new song or two. Really to reclaim all those bootlegs out there as officials.

Then a live box set or separate releases with sets from all eras including '93 unplugged stuff.

I think a big tour would be to much, a couple of well rehearsed smaller shows or  a one off show for tv. No guests except family (sons and daughters), keep it simple and much less of the common hits and delve deeper for some surprise stuff  such as Still A Mystery to show off the great vocal performances.  As much differrent to the prior anniversaries as possible. Not being an expert does Carl's son have any vocal similarities to his dad?

Interesting to hear other opinions if this has not been done prior.

All the best
