This is cool, I had no idea this song existed back in 73. Always thought Dennis wrote it in 75/76 for POB
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Authentic autographs online??.... on: October 13, 2018, 12:56:56 AM
Hey all, anyone used Rockstar Gallery for purchase of autographs? They have some nice BB pieces on there, overpriced but was wondering about reputation and authenticity as I’ve been stung before when buying online ...

Does the video of Brian on tour still exist? He plays a Carl song on piano at one point. I think it's Long Promised Road.

Yeah!

Came across these years back. Think the first cover I heard although not technically a BB song was Monkeys Uncle, they did such an amazing job of it I decided to search out more if their stuff and found some gems... HV springs to mind... Always thought it would be kinda cool if these guys did a warm up to a BW show..!

I've been listening to everyone's takes on this subject and have discovered some songs I'd never heard before so thanks everyone!! The fleet foxes suggestion reminded me of the opener from their album a few years ago 'sun it rises' so many BW/BB continue to touch so many corners of modern music it's just amazing!! Anywa.... Enjoy!!

Hey, is anyone on here doing the tier 1 meet and greet in the UK??
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Best Beach Boys / BW inspired song?? on: February 10, 2016, 08:57:10 AM
Responding to the 40th Anniversary of Brian's Back/15 Big Ones/It's OK Documentary thread made me think of this song - "Shannon" by Henry Gross. I distinctly remember laying on the beach in Wildwood, New Jersey in the summer of 1976, and this song was played on the radio constantly. What a great summer song!

Anyway, to this thread's topic, the song sounds like a Beach Boys' song, from the lead vocal to the background vocals and, of course, Henry Gross' falsetto. As far as being inspired by The Beach Boys, I've read that the lyrics were about Carl Wilson's dog, but I never knew if that was true or a rumor. Actually I think Carl appeared on one of Henry's albums. I think about this song with a Carl Wilson lead vocal (or a Brian attempt maybe?) and I think it would've been a great cover.

Cool story man, thanks for sharing I'll look up the song...
11  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Best Beach Boys / BW inspired song?? on: February 10, 2016, 01:40:33 AM
Ok so I was out walking the dog this morning on a sunny, crisp winters morning in manchester and was listening to some music on the headphones (as you do) and I had an idea for a thread on here.

What would you consider to be your favourite beach boys / brian wilson inspired song.  To make it a little tougher, and a bit more fun of course YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO STATE ONE CHOICE. Would be good if you could give a brief reason why you consider it to be BB/BW inspired....

Apologies for my naivity if this has already been done before but I figure even if the exercise was done a while back it may need refreshing now anyway!! So I'll start things off with one of my faves...

At my most beautiful by REM.  The organ, percussion and cord changes....and of course the obvious harmonies scream Pet Sounds to me!! I'm getting vibes of Lets Go Away for Awhile??....see what you all think.....Decisions decisions!!

The john lennon song imagine in the early 80s, there's footage on YouTube of it, maybe Seattle 1982/3

Anyone else gonna try for the tier 1 VIP package in manchester? I sure am!

The signed lithograph and god only knows lead sheet also appeals... I've got visions of them in a cool display frame taking pride of place in my new extension!!  Obv the main draw for me though would be the chance of a meet and possibly a photo with him?? Not sure on the etiquette around photos at these things though if I'm honest...I've heard mixed things?..

I'm pretty sure the meet and greet package includes a photo taken with Brian -- and I think Al and Blondie.

Interestingly on the US VIP packages it mentions the photo specifically but no mention of it on the worldwide VIP package page on the BW website.... Maybe it's just me reading too much into it!

Going off the US VIP prices I'm thinking somewhere in the region of £300???

There seem to be two tiers of VIP package -- one with everything at around three hundred quid, and one with just the soundcheck and a poster at around one hundred -- for most shows. I will only be purchasing the cheaper VIP option, if that's available. Having been lucky enough to meet Brian twice before, I can't see paying an extra two hundred for that.

Yeh I noticed the 2 tiers, I've never had the pleasure of meeting him before so this will be a once in a lifetime for me... Only thing is I may have to sell by signed drum skin to fund it....decisions decisions!

I love Kacey. Love Love Love

Those pants are fake. Joe Thomas obviously took a plain old pair of cotton pants and sprayed them with a semi-gloss acrylic sheen. Very unnatural looking. Don't these people know cotton will never go out of style. Why would a beautiful girl cheapen herself with an outfit like that!

As we say in England "she'd get it!!"  Sorry guys and gals  Razz
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: LISTEN TO THE LAST SONG, ON THE ISLAND, & I'M FEELING SAD!! BBC RADIO on: March 30, 2015, 06:03:52 AM
The last song is a masterpiece in my opinion. You can truly hear the longing in his vocal as he sings "I wish that I could give you so much more" in an almost apologetic way.... Brian you have NOTHING to apologise for man.

from the line of "don't be sad there was a time and a place for what we had" onwards this work of art goes into the stratosphere and just blows me away. No exaggeration I must be on my30th listen of this and I'm still loving it as much as the first few times.

I agree with a post elsewhere, if he were to play this as a suite at his UK concerts alongside FTTBA, PCH and SG I would probably just bawl with joy!
