1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Record Collector presents… The Beach Boys! on: June 10, 2024, 05:30:39 PM
Searched for this on the forum, but couldn't see anything - apols if I did miss a previous post.

https://recordcollectormag.com/rc-specials/record-collector-presents-the-beach-boys

It's £9.45 and 116 pages, only a couple of pages of ads. Just picked it up, I've only flicked through it thus far, but first impressions are it's a really nice collection, seems like a real labour of love - basically catnip for anyone on this forum! Interviews, articles and reviews of all the albums (All of them!).

I don't often buy the monthly Record Collector mag, so unsure if this is all new material or with some culled from the mag's archive like Mojo/Uncut do with their specials, but it's all new to me at least! It certainly reads like the interviews are recent.

Anyway - recommended!

And I should say, it's a cracking issue of UNCUT - buy it if you can!

Darn it!  Just raced over to a great news stand here in Los Angeles to pick this up and the guy said, "Just got the new issue in yesterday!"  But it was the August issue...

Gonna be a long month waiting for this, (unless they get it quicker at Amoeba Records), but I'm curious if there are any photos with the article?

If I get a chance I'll scan the article.

Also an 8/10 two page review of Sunshine Tomorrow!

Just received the September 17 issue of Uncut magazine.  There's a lengthy article about Dennis and the 40th anniversary of Pacific Ocean Blue.  Just had a quick glance and it looks interesting.

Couple of nice tidbits I did pick out that I at least haven't heard before - "With Kalinich, Wilson hatched plans for a multimedia project called 'Life Symphony' & an album of 45 one-minute songs designed to inspire and touch people"

I bought the VIP meet and greet package for the Manchester show last night. I didn't really know what to expect. There were about 35 of us and we were ushered into the hall to see the soundcheck which was great. It was like a mini concert. Lots of stage banter going on between Brian and Al and they were asking audience if sound was ok etc. Then the people who just had the soundcheck package were asked to leave. It was just one person though and he said rather meekly "just me then ?" and left. Then we queued up for the meet and greet. Brian, Al and Blondie were at the table. We had to hand our stuff to sign over to someone else then we were each asked to stand behind the table for the photo which were taken with our own cameras, phones. I asked Al to personalise my autograph which he did but then Brian instructed me to stand behind the table for the photo. After the photo was taken I got my chance for a handshake off all three then I stood near to the table to see the rest of the people go through the meet and greet. There was hardly any conversation at all apart from Brian bursting into a rendition of "Honking Down The Highway" whilst pointing at my friend ! One thing I did notice was Brian kept saying to his security "how many more ?" then rather hurridly departed after the last meet and greet. It was worth every penny though to meet these musical legends.

Hey man, welcome to SS. I was in the M&G too, felt very much the same. I wouldn't have swapped it back for the cash given the opportunity but I also don't think I'd be doing it again. I probably rambled at you at some point...I was the guy in the Love You T-Shirt

I was there with garyc and agree, it was an awesome day! (Rentatris - Also think it was me who asked about your most excellent Love You T-Shirt in the queue). Can't add much to Gary's comments - the soundcheck was cool, great to see how the band works.  The Meet and Greet was brief but I didn't feel short changed.  The actual concert itself was just as good as I expected it would be.  Not seen Brian live for a few years, but he was fully into it.  Al - sounds as good as he did back in the day, and Blondie rocks!

Anyone who's umming and ahhing about the meet and greet, I'd say definitely do it.  Rationally it's a ridiculous amount of money, but what's rational about the Beach Boys world?  Smiley
