Sorry if I missed it in the OP (that big list made my eyes go crazy), I would love to see Surf City on a CD - I know they have done it live a few times.
Apologies if it is already on an album and I missed it - I am still new at this.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian Wilson albums query

Hi folks. I have been buying all of the Beach Boys CDs over the last few months and now have all of their studio albums and the Smile 2CD box. I am thinking of moving on to some Brian Wilson CDs before moving into live and other albums. To start with I would like to get Brian's studio work with new material. Am I right in thinking there are three of them?:

Thanks for any info and suggestions, and please point me at another thread if my search skills let me down yet again.

Smiley Smile Stuff / 1980's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Keepin' The Summer Alive

I gave it a 2 - around 2.5 for me.
It's an odd album, and kind of sad as the last full band effort - it came across to me as a bunch of off-cuts from all of their 1970s albums (perhaps excepting Love You). School Day and Sunshine could have been on 15 Big Ones, Santa Ana Winds could have been part of the California Saga on Holland, Endless Harmony is like a low-rent Surf's Up, and on it goes.
So not awful, but finally sounding like a band running out of steam.

Welcome Tony - always great to see more Australians around here, to help make amends for what our nation did for Leif Garrett.
Get yourself into a JB - many of the '01 twofers are still kickin' 'round for $15 in most cases.
A
Thanks - I picked up a bunch of them a few weeks ago which really kick-started this listening journey. Unfortunately a few of the later ones were no longer available; I only managed to get the Sunflower and Holland ones from the later albums (but luckily managed to get all of the 1960s twofers) - but patience on ebay got me the rest. I'm up to 1980 now, then I will go back and re-listen to the earlier ones and add my thoughts to the relevant threads.

Anyone in the UK know where to get L.A./Light Album & M.I.U at a reasonable price?, as its been deleted from the catalog now, thanks.
Just be patient with ebay - which is what I did and snagged it for AU$30 delivered a couple of weeks ago which is a decent price.

Solid 4 for the CD from me (I have it on the 2-fer). Some very nice ballads and I don't mind them doing one disco song in their career -> it is rather well done and varies the tempo of the album before it gets too slow. I really like the old first side. I had this on LP many years ago and liked it then as well - it was pretty popular here in Australia as were a couple of the singles.

So - I gave it a 4. That should get me off to a bad start around these parts Reason? - great 60s sounding tunes married with the cheesy sorts of lyrics that characterised Love You. Oddly, it sounds like they were actually really into the whole thing in spite of all the dramas going on with the band at the time. I don't get all the 'tired sounding' comments - I'm not hearing it. I would probably go 3.5 if we could split as I don't think it is (quite) as good as some of the other albums I will be giving a 4 when I go back and score those. Aside -> for those looking to get this in the L.A. twofer - I did as suggested above and just bided my time on ebay and eventually got it for around AU$30 delivered which is pretty good given it has been oop for a while now.

Well - since I have just made my first post in another thread - I guess I may as well introduce myself as well.
I have recently been buying all of the readily available Beach Boys CDs, so 30 studio albums (counting Smile Sessions) plus Stack O' Tracks on the Party 2-fer (31 albums in all).
Once upon a time 'back in the day' I had around a half-dozen Beach Boys LPs. We bought our first record player in 1970 and I began by getting all the Beatles and Beatles solo LPs. I then moved on to the Beach Boys who I had liked on the radio as a kid. I started with the album which was new at that time, Holland, then went back via Carl and the Passions to Surf's Up. In that order I thought at the time they were great, okay and good. Somehow I missed the 1976 to 1978 albums and my next was L.A. (which I liked); I also had a Greatest Hits 60s thing and I think Surfer Girl.
Anyway, I sold my LPs a long time ago, and the kids came along and spare money dried up. Recently though I bought a nice new music system and have begun buying CDs by my favourite artists. I saw the Holland 2-fer in a shop and compulsion set in, I am now listening through all of the CDs in order (I'm up to M.I.U.) and it has been a revelation. Yes, I heard Pet Sounds for the first time ever just a few weeks ago, and the late 1960s albums were far better than I thought they would be.
So, hi - and see you soon in the other threads here.
