AcousticSounds.com

what about US availability? where can  i find a copy?

Easiest way is probably eBay or AcousticSounds.com. I got mine at a local record store, though I stopped in at the Virgin Megastore first, and they said a number of stores had placed an order for it, just not that particular one. Pretty much any good record store will have either ordered it already or will do a special order for you if online shopping isn't your thing.

The PastMasters Series version of PS is the same as the American CD release in 1990. I have both and they are the same. Japan issued the one with the bonus tracks before they were suppose to. They recalled that issue and released the mix sans the extras in their PastMasters series.

Thanks to some of the info you posted on the SH Forum (before censorship reigned supreme), I figured I'd pick it up rather than a 1990 CD, seeing as how they both can be had for pretty cheap, and since I've heard good things about the Pastmasters series (except for Pet Sounds), I figured I'd pick up all available titles on that line rather than have all of the Pastmasters CDs, except for PS.  I'm even confused about what I was trying to say.  Huh

I've had the chance to listen to the new mono remaster a couple times, and I have to say that I'm quite impressed with the sound. To me, it's a significant upgrade over the 2001 Mono/Stereo two-fer. While the DCC version is also fantastic, I think this latest one is as good as that....and I got it for a hell of a lot cheaper. I don't have one of the earlier mono CD issues to compare it to, but I'm trying to acquire the Japanese Pastmasters Pet Sounds, and further compare it to other issues. For now, I'm quite satisfied with the latest remaster.

I'm also looking forward to getting the colored double vinyl, but that will have to wait for the weekend.

And I guess it's only going to grow with the imminent releases.

Nobody's expecting to come out and replace the CD standard of the album. It's not even something you'd find in a local store. It's release wouldn't hurt anyone. Yeah, I think it would be something better left for an exhaustive box set that looks to include everything available on the album, but that's not happening anytime soon. Certainly I wouldn't buy it for sound.....that's why I have the DCC issue and the DVD-audio issue. I'd buy it to hear a different version of the album. Yeah, I can get it used on vinyl, but I don't listen to vinyl ( Shocked) so this would be the only way for me to hear it. Nobody who would buy it would be buying without having already heard the album both in mono and new stereo, so it's not going to ruin anyone's perception of the album. And nobody's forcing anyone to buy anything.

Seeing as how it was the stereo Pet Sounds before the stereo Pet Sounds, I was really excited about it and pre-ordered it through cdUniverse. A couple places said the release was cancelled by Toshiba EMI, and cdUniverse told me the order was backordered, and that they had no other information as to when the CD might be released, if ever. Needless to say, I was tremendously disappointed.
