Had a couple more thoughts to add after the second show in Chicago and based on the discussion here.
I went on with two friends who like Beach Boys music in the way most people do— the hits up to Pet Sounds + Good Vibrations and Kokomo. I told them going in they were in for a bunch of deep cuts including most of an album they’ve never heard. I was worried the Love You section would lose them and instead it was met with the opposite response! They were completely into it and one of them said it was his favorite part of the show and he’s been listening to the album since the show. What a testament to the concert!

Also, always thought Matt has done a great job, but he sounds better than ever. The strength of Matt, Rob and Darian’s vocal stack really carries the harmonies and sounds absolutely killer. Al should film one of these shows and release it so people around the world can see and hear this!

Is the live mixer the same person who did BW shows?

I just saw Al and the Pet Sounds Band last night in Chicago. While this forum has been a great resource for me over the years, I've been intentionally avoiding most spoilers about the show. I went in knowing we'd get Love You and some other deep cuts, along with the hits. What I left with was a profound excitement about what I hope is the future of this music! RUN, DON'T WALK TO SEE THIS SHOW.

I've seen all the different BB related touring iterations over the years and enjoyed most for various reasons. But I don't think I've ever left a show this excited. For a long time, I wondered what would happen to this music in a live setting once the originals stopped touring. Who would carry on the legacy? Sharing the front line, Darian, Matt, and Rob each taking leads (all more so than in the BW touring days) at times gave me chills. I have no idea if these guys will want to keep doing this when all the original Beach Boys are no longer playing shows, but I sure hope for the rest of us they do. Aside from their fantastic musicianship, there is a genuine love and excitement that infuses each song. You feel it in the crowd.

The band is tight in all the right ways, but also loose and having a great time. Al sounded great! Whatever illness someone mentioned that he was dealing with last year, he sounds much more normal now singing. Not just normal, but GREAT. The crowd loved it and was super into it. Different vibe than BW shows-- more interactive. Everyone was on their feet from the Pet Sounds Suite through the end of the encore!

My only criticism is that Al moves off the mic a lot while singing and that makes him tough to hear at times. It could be a teleprompter placement issue, as I gotta think over the last 60 years Al's developed good enough mic technique, and I've never noticed this before. But honestly, who cares... this was such a spectacular show. Excited to see tonight's show.

I used to know the answer and have forgotten. A quick search of the forum didn't give me the answer, so here I am asking!

Was Ed Carter on bass or guitar for this tour? Do any photos exist from the tour? Though the setlist isn't as extensive, the Lorelei show from earlier that year was also a good one.

Reviving this thread after revisiting some recordings of this tour. My ears are very happy. Some of the best live vocals of any of the touring eras from Carl and Al in particular. Happy that Add Some Music from this show got released with cleaned up audio on the Feel Flows set (seems like it was extraction and not a true multitrack mix which I assume doesn't exist), but remain curious why this whole show hasn't been released as a live set. It's just absolutely fantastic.

I had the pleasure of seeing this movie last night @ Tribeca. I found it poignant and moving. It is by far the most intimate portrait of BW I've seen (and I've seen them all). To pull this off is no small feat. Some new wonderful insights into the past, some sad ones, and everything in between. It truly feels like you are riding in the car with your buddy Brian. Jason Fine did a remarkable job getting Brian to open up (you can tell how much Brian loves him and trusts him) and Brent Wilson did a remarkable job capturing some raw and spontaneous moments, as well as weaving the past with the present. Some of the most powerful moments are not in what is said, but what is shown and contextualized. Some great stuff with the BW Band as well.

They said last night they have international theatrical distribution for Q4 2021, and hope to be able to secure the same domestically in the US. I hope everyone on here is able to see this soon.

Been missing live music so much.

I've seen various configurations of the touring Beach Boys over the years since Carl passed and Al left, some good some not so good. I went on a deep dive on youtube and rediscovered my appreciation for one very specific configuration of the touring Beach Boys band, whom I made a point to see at every chance after the first time seeing this configuration in 2015. I saw them live a handful of times between 2015-2018 with the touring lineup whose harmonies were anchored Jeff, Brian E, and Scott and they were so damn good. I wonder if there are any better quality live recordings from this period. It felt like Brian E really lifted the group up and you could feel the excitement from everyone when he'd sing some leads. And Jeff and Scott were in great form. Here are some I gathered in case you also are missing live music and want to spend some time watching this group from this era.

I'm So Young (Brian E Lead)

I Can Hear Music (Brian E Lead)

Then I Kissed Her (Brian E Lead)

Lady Lynda (Brian E Lead) - there are moments in here where if you told me it was Carl Wilson singing the lead Al wrote/sang, I'd believe you

I'm Waiting for the Day (Scott Lead)
https://youtu.be/hhccFpgr6E4?t=2630

Darlin' (Jeff Lead)
https://youtu.be/hhccFpgr6E4?t=2997

Good to my Baby (Jeff Lead)
https://youtu.be/hhccFpgr6E4?t=3155

California Dreamin' (Jeff Lead)
https://youtu.be/hhccFpgr6E4?t=4709

Wild Honey (John Cowsill lead)
https://youtu.be/BiauUJYhfak?t=6805

NOTE: I'm posting this in the 2020 Beach Boys tour thread because it seems much more applicable to the 2020 Touring Beach Boys than it does to the Youtube thread of Beach Boys videos that is mostly the original group.

It appears Scott has suffered some sort of arm/wrist injury. I wonder who will play all the leads or if the few dates left will be cancelled.

Who was singing the first verse of Sloop in that recording? Christian?

Came across this video and just loved seeing these two quick moments shared between Brian and Darlene Love while singing some Beach Boys hits and wanted to share. You can feel the real love there.

Cool pics. Looks like Rob B is in for Brian E.
17  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2019 Tour Thread on: August 15, 2019, 07:08:10 AM
They're only using that name because a lawyer said they could.

My understanding is that Brian, Estates of Carl and Dennis, Mike and Al via the corporation says he can use the name in exchange for the fee he pays to the BB Corp to license the name. The lawyers got more heavily involved when Al didn’t want to pay to license the name to use within his band’s name (back when he had Carnie and Wendy in his group).

Presumably if Brian and Al were truly unhappy with Mike using the name, all it’d take would be either Carl’s estate or Dennis’ estate to be on board to vote against licensing the name to Mike. But of course, they all get paid for this license, including Brian and Al.

Someone please jump in and correct any misunderstanding I have here.

A friend of mine is there and sent me a video of Brian E singing Don’t Worry Baby. Jeff is there as well playing guitar but doesn’t seem to be singing.

Are there any videos of Brian E singing “Don’t Worry Baby” from recent shows?

Posting this here and on one other thread where it seems it might be of the most interest. A friend saw the touring BBs in 2017 and Foskett didn't sing at all. Must've had a cold or something. Anyway, Brian E sang all the falsetto parts that show and here's some video with many more songs by same poster: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sf1LYUPBozY

It will be The Beach Boys Christmas Album played in its entirety as well as some tracks off Brian’s solo Christmas album. And yes, Little St. Nick will absolutely be played. Has been a holiday season staple in BW shows for a while and a real crowd pleaser.

So you don’t consider Mike a “co-founder?”

Anyone who is touring with BW and singing the falsettos deserves his own thread here, so here’s Rob. Video from last night in NJ: https://youtu.be/zhIJschyKP4

Fits right in with the band.

Thank you, Mr. Desper. As someone late to this party (if that is what to call it), where can I find the SOS track in question? I’m a fan of the band and would be curious to hear it. I am NOT curious in debating who is singing lead!
