1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread for various insignificant questions that don't deserve their own thread! on: January 27, 2013, 12:31:27 PM
How much did Brian record at RCA? I've noticed more and more that he always sneaks RCA in with Gold Star and Western and his other regular studios and has even misattributed sessions to RCA.

A related question, was "My Obsession" recorded at RCA by any chance? I can't help but get the feeling Brian lists RCA as one of 'his' studios in order to seem cooler.
Backing tracks of several songs on "Between the Buttons" were recorded at RCA but it is not clear if "My Obsession" was one of them. On Wiki though it says that mixdown was conducted there: "During the mixdown of 'My Obsession', Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys was invited down to RCA Studios in Los Angeles, 'My Obsession' remains one of Brian Wilson's favourite Rolling Stones songs."

This might also help: http://www.timeisonourside.com/SOMyObsession.html. Great comprehensive site on the Stones.

I shall worship you from now on, sir! This is one hell of a Christmas gift!  I was very surprised when they said Murry was in the audience. And I loved the heavenly reverb on the vocals and on Denny's drums on "Do It Again". And Carl Wilson - what a professional - you can tell he put all his heart into playing and singing. The medley was very surprising to me - did they perform it regularly during that tour?

When I was younger, I always thought  Blondie sang the verses with Carl in Marcella, you know, the "one arm over my shoulder" part.

I also have one lead vocal question:
Isn't that Carl sharing lead vocals with Mike during the verses in "A Thing Or Two"? I know, everywhere it says it's Brian, but I've been listening to that song today, and I am almost sure it is Carl. Am I wrong on this?

I'm a big fan of CATP, it's unfortunate that it had been underrated so long.
A great, rocking, with no bad song, this is my second favourite 70's BB album (after Sunflower).

4 and half for me.

I've listened to that song as well as vocals-only track, and I think it's clearly Brian.
