SDT gets my vote. Toss up between this and Take a Load Off Your Feet.

Honestly I can see why a few people have voted for A Day in the Life of a Tree. It's great, but I just feel like it could be better. Like something's missing or something.  Undecided

I am. I think it'll be even better than last year's!
4  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Worst Beatles Songs :/ on: February 02, 2014, 11:03:39 AM
There is no such thing as a bad Beatles song.  Not every song is great of course but I couldn't name you one Beatles song I didn't like.

This. For me, I guess most of their really early stuff from Please Please Me for instance isn't as great as their later stuff, but even those songs are pretty darn good.

I just thought that Revolution #9 was just trippy and weird when I first listened to it, but now I think it's at least a unique experiment.

Good mention with 'Wildlife' by McCartney, that was one of the first albums of his I got into as a kid. Still sounds good to me now that I'm older. I guess it has some throwaways, but it's a fun album.

A lot of Motown acts have some underrated/under appreciated albums. In particular my favorite Motown group, The Temptations, have "With A Lot O Soul", "Cloud Nine" and "All Directions", those three are absolute classics. People know some of the songs on those albums, but don't realize that even the album tracks are awesome.

David Ruffin, former lead singer of the Tempts, had quite a few solo albums that didn't do well chart wise but are also amazing. Check out 'David' (unreleased until 2004, recorded from 1969-1971), and 'My Whole World Ended'. I actually like his voice and his solo work more than most of Marvin Gaye's stuff in the 70's (though that of course is also quite good).

There's some great info in this thread. I have a couple of quick questions.

Who wrote 'Celebrate the News?' Brian/Mike, just Brian, or some other members of the band?

Bellagio 10452 - "Albums" -> 20/20

Or... you could just have Googled it. 10 seconds, tops.

Yeah I guess I could've Googled it, and I actually did after I asked the question, but I wanted confirmation from an expert Beach Boys fan.

I've seen your site once before I think, but I didn't think of looking there. Next time.

Oh so it was Dennis and Jakobson on Celebrate the News. Listening to it with that info now, it does sound very much like a Dennis-type song. Given how I thought it was Brian and Mike, no wonder I was confused.  LOL

And that's a cool website, too. I love Pacific Ocean Blue. Thanks metal flake paint and Bubbly Waves!

And also, who's singing backup vocals on the song 'Pacific Ocean Blues' at :49? The one guy going "bow bow now now now".

Great cover. Your voice is perfect for the song, and the music is very well done. I listened to your older version of the song, and you've definitely improved in those few years (though the old version is still pretty good).

Melekalikimaka and Bells (not that voting for the latter means anything at this point lol).

Who that one guy singing background vocals on the song 'Pacific Ocean Blue', the one with the deepish voice who's going 'ba ba ba ba' during the second verse and then repeats  "water, water" later on?

Ooops, forgot to reply here. Thanks for the welcomes! If I decide to record myself (might be soon) I'll definitely post it.

The next book in the series will be titled Tuesday's With Murry

Someone already did a cartoon series on that:

Yeah I agree that Mike has a bunch of great vocals, both lead and backup. So many, it's hard to choose. You can't go wrong with anything off of Pet Sounds. Terry also mentioned 'Aren't You Glad'. That's one of my favorites from him too! So smooth and confident.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mystery product on: November 18, 2013, 04:20:37 PM
Hmmm if I was stuck behind the counter without any customers for forty four years I'd be a little ticked off too.  It's no wonder that place went sour.  The competition from the Radiant Radish across the street certainly didn't lift any spirits either.

Yep. I'd also be angry over the fact I had to wait 40 years to be released. All my 'good vibrations' would be gone by then, too.

Very good interview altho David Leaf did most of the talking.. There was a time and it wasn't that long ago that BW could have done the interview and done most of the talking..BW can be articulate when he wants to be .. GOD bless Brian Wilson..

I would've liked to have heard Brian talk more too, but yeah it was still a good interview.
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread for various insignificant questions that don't deserve their own thread! on: November 18, 2013, 02:49:33 PM
Murry contributes a bass vocal on "Be Here In the Morning" ("... FULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL"), but not heard of him adding vocals to "Break Away" before. Mike was well enough to tour spring 1969, when the sessions were held, so... probably not.

OK, thanks for answering!

So far I haven't found anything on that, but I'll keep looking. I'm interested in this as well, because it actually looks vaguely creepy kinda neat, and even if it is just a joke then this person beat me to it.
