Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / my official demo, what ya think?...
|
on: August 17, 2006, 08:45:57 PM

Ive created alot of new music recently, but right now im focusing on getting a solid demo together to start sending out to people and hopefully get out there... anyways, i put the demo's up on my myspace: www.myspace.com/jontidanielsand you can download it in a neat little high quality package right here, with notes etc..: YSI: http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=05AEA61841DC4DB3&rcpt=jontz_69@hotmail.com (20mb) basically, i chose the songs that have got the best feedback over the past few months and then i added more parts, fixed things up and mastered them... anyways, i was hoping for feedback as usual, and any comments on how the demo could be made better would be highly appreciated..

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Is Brian touring Australia nationally?

It's an ongoing debate. Go Wallabies!
The "debate" was memorialized in the brief film that played before Brian's shows in the summer of '99...I remember Brian and Mike together, must have been taped in maybe '97 or '98 - and Brian says Fun Fun Fun was written in Australia, and Mike says "No, we wrote that in Salt Lake" - then Brian says "No Mike, I think your mind is getting senile!" - which drew great laughter and applause from those of us in the Calvin Theater... Isnt that in endless harmony?

It only takes one look at my BBS name to know that i love 'Holland' and " The Trader".
Although my favourite part of the album has to be the moog solo in 'leaving this town'! nothing better than cranking it up and getting lost within that floatin' solo!
Although, my one main gripe with Holland is thats it to short! It could of stood up next to Pet Sounds and Sunflower if it had one or two more really strong tracks..(atleast in my book)

Well as we know, Brians doing the spleandour in the grass festival next month (which i wont be able to attend ), but is there any word on a national tour of Australia, or have any other dates been announced around then? They mentioned a national tour on Triple J a few weeks ago, and i would be crushed if that wasjust a lie!

Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Weezers Pinkerton

Here some Q&A's with rivers from his myspace:
*all of rivers comments are glowing*
What do you say to those people (fans) who say they want another Pinkerton? ---Michael Silvers
I cant control what I write. I have to accept whatever comes. If its not what someone wants to hear, then at least they can agree with me to love Pinkerton and part as friends.
Rivers, unlike Green, Make Believe, Maladroit, and even the Blue Album, Pinkerton is a reflection of you. Why are you holding back with your music and your emotions? ---Eric
On each of those albums I just wrote what I thought sounded cool. I guess my sense of cool changed from album to ablum.
You were interviewed for the May 25th, 2001 issue of Entertainment Weekly in an article titled "Older & Weezer." On the topic of your sophomore album 'Pinkerton', you were you were quoted as saying: "Everyone thought it was"--he pauses, letting the thought hang--"an embarrassment. One of the worst albums of all time."..."It's a hideous record," Cuomo says. "It was such a hugely painful mistake that happened in front of hundreds of thousands of people and continues to happen on a grander and grander scale and just won't go away."..."The fans have given us this miraculous career, and it's all because of Pinkerton. That's all they want, that's all they care about. It's so frustrating, because I don't want to turn my back on them, but I sure as hell don't want to do Pinkerton. I have to face the fact that I'm going to completely p--- off all these fans who have been so good to us over the past few years." And in 2005 Spin Magazine listed 'Pinkerton' #61 on their list of the 100 Best Albums from 1985-2005. (None of the other Weezer albums made this list.) Rolling Stone who named 'Pinkerton' the second worst album of the year in 1996, in 2004 an article changed its status to a 5-star rating and inducted it into The Rolling Stone Hall Of Fame. This article can be found in the Reviews sections of the 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time issue. Why do[/did] you hate so much what is now being argued as some of your best work and perhaps your best album? ---John
I was embarrassed because I made a very ego-centric album that was almost universally loathed.
What is your CURRENT opinion of each of weezer's past albums? ---me Greenwich, CT
Theyre all great!

Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: NEIL YOUNG - LIVING WITH WAR
|

In 1970 it took him two weeks to release "Ohio". Now after 6 years of Bush in office he releases this "urgent" cd. Yawn. Shakey has certainly slowed down with the years.
1.Neil has already bashed bush in his 2003 Greendale release. 2.the record was written and recorded within 9 days. 3. Neils previous release was Prairie Wind which was released in the second half of last year. At this rate, Neil is more prolific than any other "Veteran" rocker and legend at his status. and its all quality too....

I think the first disc would of benefited with a better selection from "Today!" such as "Kiss Me Baby" or "In The back of my mind".
Although thats a minor flaw in a brilliantly composed box set thats a treat to listen to for newcomers and longterm fans.
I love the flow of the 3rd disc. It really works well as an album, rather than just a colletion of songs...

Sunflower is bliss from the second its starts till those closing notes of Cool, Cool Water. Definately one of my favourite record of all time. I love it so much that i actually resist listening to it, until ive done something positive. and then i reward myself with a Sunflower listening session.

Smiley Smile Stuff / Brian Wilson Solo Albums / Re: Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE

I think alot of you are missing the point of BWS04.
All you naysayers say that BWS04 lacks that sense of exploration that permeate's the original SMiLE. but the fact of the matter is that SMiLE means something totally different now than it did in 1967:
The original SMiLE is about an artist exploring new possibilities within popular music.
While BWS04 is the sound of an artist conquering personal demons that have haunted him for 37 years.
Atleast for me anyway.
