1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2018 Tour Thread on: December 05, 2018, 08:39:30 PM
Just got back from tonight’s show at Westbury. I’ve seen Brian almost every year since 2008 and seeing him tonight was very bittersweet. He had to be escorted to and from the stage in a wheelchair which was heartbreaking. Seeing my hero like that isn’t fun.

He sounded okay tonight, he didn’t seem too interested in the Christmas set. They omitted “What I Really Want for
Christmas.” The highlight for me was Christmasey and On Christmas Day. Pretty strong vocals on those ones.
Brian played his keyboard throughout the encore songs. One fan shouted “We love you Brian” and he responded with “thank you.” That was it for the audience interaction. Brian looked uncomfortable in his chair, drinking 2 full bottles of water throughout the show. He sat behind a keyboard, opposed to his white grand. Brings back old memories.
I hope Brian gives it a rest after these shows, it kills me to see him in this condition.

After seeing that Auld Lang Syne video, I don't even feel like seeing Brian on Wednesday night... makes me really upset to see him like that. He obviously does not want to be there. He's exhausted. I don't want this to be my final memory of Brian. I'll listen to the Live at the Roxy cd in my car, seeing him now makes me so upset. He wasn't even like this last year when he was doing Pet Sounds. I miss the Lucky Old Sun days, those were great memories for me.

Totally anticipating the Xmas shows, I've been seeing Brian since 08 and he's killed it every time I've seen him. I'm concerned though with the ticket sales for the Dec. 5th show I'm going to in my area. Lots of empty seats with only a week and a half till the show. This venue usually has most play in "half stage" which holds fewer seats, easier to fill. This time, the venue will be in full stage with a larger amount of seats to fill up. I just hate thinking about Brian looking at the crowd and there's a bunch of empty rows.

Also hoping these new setlists will bring happy energy to Brian, I can't wait to hear the Xmas songs live, I'm reallly tired of PS and the hits.

I recently found an old audio file of me vocalizing some of the sections from The Boy's SMiLE album. I just had to finish it because I had some good ideas on how to sing some parts. I pretty much try to sing the instruments and duplicate the vocals as well as I can. Some parts I included originally, but most vocals are from the SMiLE album. So enjoy!

He makes me want to wear shorts.

Me too! Always showing off his 70 year old legs... *throws up in nearby toilet*

Hits, hits, deep cuts, new songs and Jeff Beck songs people don't really want to hear.
I actually don't know any Jeff Beck songs... But I'd love to hear some new songs. I'm tired of the hits... please, kill me if I hear Surfin' USA or California Girls! I want to hear stuff that I would never think of hearing.

I'm an thrilled to hear that Brian and Jeff Beck along with Al and David are going to be touring again! Especially at The Beacon Theater and Westubry! So, what can we expect to hear? Some old rarities and some jamming with Jeff Beck? Or maybe some peeks into their new albums and songs. I told myself I wont look at the setlists before I go. Just to make the experience much more thrilling... So any ideas on what to expect to see and hear this tour?

Wondermints - Tracy Hide (as good a Pet Sounds pastiche as is possible)

REM - At My Most Beautiful (ditto)

Spongebob Squarepants - The Best Day Ever (pure BW, I believe Andy Paley had a hand in this one)

I actually sat down and listened to that Spongbob song. It's actually not bad. So much BW influence...
