1988:
The Beach Boys are inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and I as am happy as could be. I'm sittin' on top of the world.
Then, I come to find out that Bruce isn't mentioned anywhere on their award. This was my Bataan death march, my Hurricane Katrina....
I was a crushed, young soul. This record was the only place I could find solace. I would sit in my room, tears in my lap, record sleeve in my hand. I can still hear "Pipeline" ringing in my ears.
Point is, Bruce was there for me. It's almost as if his clapping-worn hands were holding me, sheltering me, whispering to me "It's okay. We'll make it together. We're always together." My record was so water logged, by 1990, I had to buy a new one.
I still have yet to find a copy.

Go rewrite "do it again" for the 100th time already!
Now I am wondering... is Sip Juice Mike Bronson two deluded posters - or One? We're firm friends, not two people. That share the same IP address with a third member. Joke was funny for a bit but ceased to be funny a while back. We're two people! Why don't people understand that you're clearly SIP Mike and I'm clearly Juice Bronston? Brothers in their love for Mike, perhaps. But, no relation otherwise.

You like picking up grannies with him. Brian is the BBs and you know it.
Personal attacks old friend? I thought that was below you. Brian stopped being the Beach Boys when he stopped caring in 1966. I had high hopes when I first heard "Do It Again" that Brian would be coming back to Beach Boys, but it turns out that was all Love. The Beach Boys Love You? If they did they would have stopped Brian from making that. Once again, you are all over this. The Beach Boys Love You? More like The Beach Boys Hate You and We Want You to Stop Listening to Our Music Because We Dislike Our Fans and Have Resorted to Making Awful Songs. Summer in Paradise should have been called The Beach Boys Love You, but Brian selfishly stole it away from Mike. Mike is the one who loves you. That's why he painstakingly crafted such albums as M.I.U. and BB '85 and SIP and.. countless albums of such high quality, it irks me to think of why there isn't a box set solely dedicated to 1980 - now.

This album is music to my ears. 5 stars *****
Music it is indeed. Finally free of the burden known as "The Beach Boys," Mike was finally able to fully express himself on record, and, might I say, what a record it is. Starting off with probably the greatest song this side of "Do It Again," Mike sweetly sings about vibrations and assassinations in what has left me agape and wondering what this mans career could have been. Make no mistake, what you're getting is solely Mike, and not the pesky Carl or Dennis, who have always brought Mike's artistic vision down with their slip-shod work. When listening, you're realize who the real "genius" is and that Mike is here for you and he always will be. Seven stars: *******

1) California Girls - Written and sung by Mike, great record. 2) Surfin USA - Mike made the group internationally famous and loved by the world. 3) Fun Fun Fun - Mike's lyrics flow like butter.
vs.
1) Kokomo -Mike's seminal masterpiece. Unparalleled. 2) Goin' to The Beach - I had to sell a large portion of my belongings to get this from a certain insider back in the day. Never regretted it even for a second. Micheal is the greatest!! 3) Do It Again - Mike saved the Beach Boys with this one.
Mike Love was at the top of his game from 1941 - present. I'd like to see Brian Wilson attempt to top "California Girls."

If what I have been stating here in this thread is even somewhat correct, then Mike shot down a new album because he didn't want a repeat from last year. A surprisingly strong album that was also a pretty solid commercial hit. Yes, it was very strong. I am strictly talking of writing the bulk of an album together. I know. But if the end result was so good, I can't fathom why Mike couldn't put aside his desire to relive his own rose-coloured view of the past in favour of a similar project. If he didn't have a track record of getting all hung up about really great works that he wasn't involved in in the past, I might be a bit more forgiving. As it is, this is just another sign of his ongoing childishness. Agreed, the main problem with Mike seems to be his unwillingness to let go of the past and accept change in the BBs. This is a man still obsessed with a long passed "surf" fad from the early 1960s. So SMiLE Brian...it seems we yet again disagree. Mike is the least ego centered Beach Boy. The rest of them really care about maintaining images long before set in stone. How much have any of the other members changed, in terms of public image? Little. Mike is a real person, and accepts himself, no matter where that may lead him. That's right. Mike accepts that he is better than the rest, and humbly, doesn't need to prove it to anyone. Instead, he prefers to release small golden, nuggets of song-smithery like "Summer of Love," and "Still Cruisin," whcih was even deemed superb enough to use in Lethal Weapon 2. The man is a national treasure.

Kokomo was popular for a few very simple reasons - great song, excellent hook, superb vocals from Carl and Michael, summertime vibe. It's a classic.
it was perfect for a cheesy summer in a very cheesy decade, but now, 25 years later, the song sounds really shite. still some people dig it. there is greatness in diversity. I'm glad that at least someone appreciates ML's output, because he's been working at it for quite awhile. "shite" or no sh*t, it still comes off a whole lot better than a lot of shite hits of the era.... It's rather non-dated and is actually very very good once one's temper cools off. "Kokomo" is 25 years old! That's hard to believe. A quarter of a century old. I still remember the first time I heard it - on a Disney TV special. Where did the time go... Thanks for the support guys. 250 years from now, I know people will still be relaxing on sunny beaches listening to Kokomo. What support? Many of us liked Kokomo way before you blessed us with your presence here. As for the remainder of your post, you really don't have a clue regarding your Beach Boys facts. Glad you like it. Truly a timeless classic. You know, we should all take a trip down to Kokomo, go to the altar of Mike Love, and sacrifice a Beach Boy fan there.

What about Pet sounds or smile?
What about them? They're great! Pet Sounds was a chart failure, and SMiLE failed because the drugged out Wilson's couldn't stand up straight, let alone make music. If you'll remember, Kokomo went to #1 internationally. I think it's pretty obvious what the public wants. The public wants Mike Love. I want Mike Love. #mikeforpresidentofmusic

But why hold up the whole BBs group and demand from the fans over such a selfish request? Brian picks and choose who he works with since day one of 1961. So be it if he doesn't want to rewrite "do it again" for the 100th time with ML.
But remember Brian, once Wilson realized how important a songwriting partner and lead singer like Mike was, there was no way he could go to anyone else. "Do It Again" is one their best songs, going straight to number one. Sunny beach songs are what the Beach Boys are known for after all. I agree.
