What about Scott Steinberg, Landy's original surf nazi during the 1976-77 "Brian's Back" era? Any idea what happened to him?
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: About the SOT Label and the First Real SMiLE Boot on: December 14, 2008, 09:48:31 PM
ad 1. First version 1983, 2nd edition 1985 (I doubt that they were of Japanese origin)

Those two LPs owe their existence to one Brad Elliott (along with the first Bambu vinyl boot). The Japanese Smile CD boot (which was actually the 2nd CD of this material - but the first was of such dire audio quality that it has been deservedly forgotten) owes its origin to a tape Mark Linett put together to show Capitol the potential of a Smile archival release. I hasten to add that Mark is in no way directly responsible for the boot - I've heard that the leak came via a UK DJ and a collaborator on Brian's first solo album.

Andrew,
Does this mean that Brad is also responsible for the other "Brother" bootlegs that came out around the same time (Landlocked, Adult Child, California Feeling)?

Uh oh, did I miss something? What happened to my friend Andrew?

Sorry if I missed it but has Mr Doe posted his review of TLOS anywhere?  If not, Andrew, what are your final thoughts?

I take the whole comment with a very large grain of salt. Remember in the late '80s/early 90's when Brian denied any knowledge of "The Beach Boys Love You"? Now he cites it as his all-time favorite Beach Boys lp. Another example was when BWPS came out. Suddenly Dennis hated SMILE, when for years he always blamed Mike and Carl.

Make no mistake, He 's fully aware of POB.

Thanks for the info, Mark.   Ocean Park Angel had all the makings of a big hit had it been properly issued.
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / 1981 Hotel Tape on: June 05, 2008, 10:56:37 PM
I recently heard a tape of Brian being interviewed in his hotel room by 2 pretty knowledgable fans circa 1981. I've seen this reffered to as the "Hotel Room Interview" and also as 'Brian talks to some nerds" on various tape lists. Can anyone shed some light on this fascinating recording for me (who, what, when, why).
The best part for me is when Brain calls Dennis' room to try and hook the guys up with an autograph. Dennis refuses because he's too sick.  Fly on the wall stuff.
9  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / For Mr. Moore: Port To Paradise on: May 29, 2008, 12:48:28 AM
This question is for Mark A. Moore.

I had a few questions about the Jan & Dean cassette-only album "Port To Paradise".  First of all, was this strictly a Jan Berry solo project? If so, was it mainly a collection of remixes of his 70's singles with some brand new recordings thrown into the mix?  How involved was Dean in the final product.? How close did "Ocean Park Angel" get to being released as the Jan & Dean "comeback" single?
Thanks in advance for attempting to clear up a very grey area in J&D history!

Ben

All this talk of the doctored "Carl & The Passions" photo got me to thinking.  Has anyone ever seen a picture of Brian with the Blondie and Ricky lineup?  Either promotional or otherwise?   I don't think I have ever come across one.

Hey!  Just wanted to let everyone know that the Borders in Providence RI had a stack of 'em for sale today. Pick up my copy this evening and am already loving it.
12  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / The Lost Monkees Movie on: May 24, 2006, 11:00:14 PM
Hey!  I was going through my files and I found something pretty cool.  Around the time Mike Nesmith was mixing the JUSTUS album, a friend of mine was hired to be Mikes intern for the summer.  I begged him to snag some sort of memento for me.  He ended up getting a copy of Mikes proposal for a Monkees movie that he would write and direct. It's called "Monkees Weekly World News Movie" and it's a 5 page treatment along with a bunch of photocopies of Weekly World News articles.
Anyway, that's my find of the week.

I hope I'm not violating the board rules by posting this but I'm getting rid of a lot of BB-related stuff. If interested, PM me or email me at maxfrost1970@yahoo.com
