That Break Away tracklist is brilliant! I've made a playlist in itunes of the "album" and I love it...almost! I see that there is a seltaeb1012002 remix of Lonely Days. I don't have this and I've looked all over for it. I have P.M 'd seltaeb but cos I'm dying to hear the remix of Lonely Days, does anybody have a MP3 file of it that could be passed my way, or a link, please?
Cheers

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Fan Mix of SMiLE...But which one?
|

Hey there I was poking round my itunes library when I came across a bunch of files that had no track ID or album ID assigned to them. When I played them it became immediately apparent that what was coming out of my speakers was a brilliant, topsy turvy, over the top mix of SMiLE. I love it...would anyone like to help me identify the mix? To keep things short, the mix ends with "Surf's Up" and it morphs into an ending that sounds like the end of the song is being played on a piece of crackly vinyl. After that comes a montage of vocals that were shoved into the album by the fanmixer. I won't type the tracklist order because I don't know if I've got the tracks in the right order...In fact, I am only assuming that this mix finishes with "Surf's Up" btw There is no "Good Vibrations" in the fanmix and on "....worms" there are vocals flown in from BWPS. And it's all in stereo. Thanks for any help in identifying this. cheers Shane

The "Today" vinyl sounds lovely as Does the "Summer Days...." record. Even though the Sleeve say's Duophonic, the "Summer Days..." vinyl is in pristine MONO. I prefer these records over the CD's...some of the digital harshness has been tamed even though the records are probably from digital masters. Maybe that's the magic of vinyl

I used to do that with vinyl too! I don't know why but I seemed to get a "tingle" from tracks at slighlty faster speeds/higher pitches.
I've downloaded audacity and it has a change pitch/speed function...a slower "Surf's Up" sounds very interesting...I might give it a go!

Thanks for that bit of info.
So why are all the modern remixes lower in pitch than the twofers and the vinyl? Maybe I used the wrong wording in the title...It should read "The Differing Pitches of etc". The speed change is ever so subtle. The pitch change stands out like a sore thumb to me. The modern mono/stereo remixes kinda drags IMO. I love the twofer and vinyl versions. I'm not meaning this post to sound like a moan, I'm just curious as to why the modern mixes are different than the remasters. Any info anyone?
Cheers

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / The differing speeds of "Please Let Me Wonder"

Hello All! Have you ever noticed that all the stereo mixes of "Please Let Me Wonder" are slower/lower in pitch than the 1990/2000's twofer? The recent mono mix of the "Today" album is also "lower' in pitch. My vinyl versions are like the 1990/2000's twofers. I tried this listening experiment on my Wife and she also noticed the differing pitches. What's going on?

AH! Now I see them. They're not the same as my Wild Honey/Friends twofer. Hmmm. Thanks for posting the pictures anyway I'm not strictly a new member, Lowbacca. I used to post on here years ago as arnoldfringe but when I changed computers I lost my password and log in details to the site so I couldn't post. It's taken until now for me to get my bum in gear and get re-registered. I must view this forum everyday, at least. It's the best Beach Boys forum and I've learnt a helluva a lot. And thanks for the warm welcome! I've thought of some thing else to post about....

Hey Lowbacca!
I can't seem to view the pictures of your "Milestones" album. I have a Capitol "Wild Honey/Friends" double album set. It may be the same as yours. I did notice that "A Thing Or Two" has a different mix/edit than the CD versions, both the 1990 and 2000's twofers. There is a gap that sounds like poor editing after the last "A Thing Or Two/ bad edit/ Do it right, baby..." Is yours like that?

Heyeverybody!
I bought some vinyl yesterday. I got "10 Years Of Harmony" and a double album package called "Milestones" which is "Sunflower" on one disc and "Surf's Up" on the other. I've already got both of these records but was intrigued by the "Sunflower" disc. I already own a 1980 pressing of "Sunflower" on the Caribou label. The "Milestones" version has "Cottonfields" on it, plus "Deirdre" follows "Add Some Music" and I must admit I like this track order more than the usual version! And the whole album mix has more mid range EQ than the Caribou pressing that I've been listening to since 1988. I love it! Does anybody else have this "Milestones" album or have any info on it like where was it on sale, mixes, date released etc.
Thanks for any info
Shane
