Yeah, it's a nice song. But I prefer "Spirit Of Rock 'n' Roll", though in the last couple of days I found out that this song is very unpopular for Beach Boys fans. I like all three of the new "Hallmark CD" songs. "Cool Head, Warm Heart" is really nice and mellow and I very much agree that someone in the background (I think Christian Love?) sounds a lot like Carl here. "PT Cruiser" doesn't exactly break new ground to say the least, but it's decent and my mom has one of these cars, so I like it. My favorite, though, is "Spirit of Rock 'n Roll." Maybe it's because I haven't heard any other (better?) versions of it previous to hearing it here, but I really enjoy it. It's energetic and fun, no great art or anything, but an entertaining song. Brian seems to dig singing it. I also don't get it- why the negativity on this one?

I was also at this show on Saturday and was very impressed by the set list! I think the last time I saw the "Mike and Bruce" Beach Boys was around 2003-2004 and I remember it being a good, fun show, but they focused mostly on the hits (the "rarest" songs were probably "Little Honda" and the Four Seasons' "Sherry"). This show was different, though, in that there were (as MBE posted) some wonderfully obscure songs mixed in with the usual radio hits. Awesome stuff, especially with the Chicagoland Pops backing them! I loved the medley at the beginning and was very surprised to hear stuff like "When I Grow Up" (a long time favorite of mine), "Here Today," "You Still Believe in Me" (one of my absolute favorites), "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring" (sounded great), "Good Timin'" and "Disney Girls"!? (I never heard they were playing this one recently!) The crowd, though, seemed to be mostly the type that only knows that Beach Boys from the hits. At times it seemed like I was the only one clapping when they first started into (and I recognized) certain songs and we were the only ones in our section who clapped when Mike mentioned "my cousin Brian." I felt like the most hardcore fan there (and one of the few who recognized everything they played, including "Cool Head"). I liked the atmosphere better at the Brian shows I'd seen in the past few years where it seemed the majority of the crowd were serious fans. Of course, I was up near the back of the balcony (I only heard about this one and bought tickets at the last minute), so things might have been different on the main floor area. Overall, I recommend checking them out if they come to your area- at least if it's a small theater like the Rosemont. Still not as incredible as a Brian show, of course, but I had a great time. I just wish I had better seats...

i was probably right behind you... i was behind those guys smoking pot right front and center.. that was def weird for a BW show. Did you see the camera right in front... when I asked about the filming someone said... "they are filming for a documentary called, brian wilson on tour..."
it's a shame that show wasn't released. FANTASTIC performance. I've seen Brian 8 times. my favortite concert of all time.
that tape/boot needs to be found!
Joe
Yeah, I do remember a camera at the HoB, and also at the Rosemont show I mentioned in '99 (supposedly they were taping for HBO). Unfortunately, as far as I know, no footage from either concert was ever released. I also saw Brian in 2004 at the Auditorium Theater for Smile and again in 2005 at the Park West in Chicago, so it's been a different venue for each of the four times I've seen him. I'd love to see him again, though, especially at the HoB.

I was there, too! We were the equivalent of about three "rows" to the stage (since there's only standing room, no seats). It was incredible, the first time I'd been to the HoB and the 2nd time seeing Brian live (the first being in 1999 at the Rosemont Theatre). The setlist was awesome, one treat after another. I still rate it as my favorite concert and would also love to have a copy if the footage is out there.

I agree, great stuff. A few more... "It's kinda sad...won't last forever..." "There's a world where I can go and tell my secrets to" "For so long I thought about it, and now I just can't live without it, this beautiful image I have of you." "I don't know where but she sends me there" "In that soulful old man sunshine" "Please no more lists, send no more gifts" Oh, and of course my signature quote.

What is the order of the leads in Add Some Music. I mean what is the order of who sings what verse?
Hi, I think it's: Verse 1 and 2: Mike Verse 3: Group with the "add some"s, Bruce with the "Your doctor/Your preacher" lines Verse 4: Carl Verse 5: Brian Verse 6: Divided- Mike ("At a movie..."), Al ("And on everyday of the summertime...), and Bruce ("They'll play it on your wedding day") Group with the ASMTYD's. It is kind of strange that Dennis didn't get a lead line, but I agree that you can hear him in the background at times...
