I barely participate here, but will do as I was thinking just the same (or kinda) a few days ago.
I do agree that the song has not "aged" well in these last 4 years (at least for me). Don't get me wrong either, it's very good! But it was not AS good (nearly perfection) as they where selling. I almost stopped listening to it, after the excitement of its release went away it desapeared from my "favourites" BB' songs list. There are plenty of way better songs than this one, even Dennis solo songs.
That being said, I do think that it would have been great to have it on Surf's up; I can think of 3 songs that could have replaced.

I really don't know if this is the right place to post this (I don't find a specific TV spots/adds thread. Please free to move it if there's one), but today I was totally surpised watching TV. I'm from Argentina, a 'far away' country where BBs fandom is not precisely widely spread (only hard-core rock/pop music fanatics will have an average knowledge about the BBs, the general public only knows Barbara Ann, Surfin' USA, etc -and not precisley knowing which group is actually playing the song-). The thing is that 'YPF', the biggest public company of the country ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YPF), released this commercial a few days ago, with 'God Only Knows' as -prominent- background song. This was quite a shock, is not very common to listen to a BBs song in the Argentine TV, specially in a public company add, which usually would use national music. I'm really impressed by the reactions over here... Don't get me wrong, this is better than NOTHING; but out of universe of things that can be released they chose this? Party must be one of the least interesting and most boring albums of their entire catalogue. Fragile production, "empty" sounds & crappy vocals (some parts even out of tune). Plus, this compilation is full of chat-fillers and repeated songs; and 90% of those songs are or were available somewhere (even on YouTube...), I've got most of them. Songs that I only played once. Who's the target of this product? Super-mega-archi-hardcore fans? Cause those are the only ones who will buy this. Sorry to be a downer, but I'm just disappointed. What we have to do to get all the great still-unreleased songs, or deep live cuts?

I've also watched it yesterday as part of the BAFICI festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I don't want to repeat what have already been said, nor spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it; so very quick:
1) Very good movie! not excelent, not perfect; but way more than just good. 2) Great details... the clothes, the dialogues, etc. 3) All that chat about Cusack's casting is 100% BS... he plays a really good 80's Brian. 4) All the acting is very good, but honors for Paul Giamatti! Wouldn't surprise me if he gets a nomination for this. 5) There some inaccuracies, but not so important ones. 6) I think the movie needed just some 10 or 20 more minutes to explain better the resolution of some situations. Some little scenes are unecessary really, like for example ((( SPOILER ))) the Sloop John B promo video. Don't get me wrong, it's great to watch, but it does not add anything to the movie. 7) Most important thing: I think the movie is likeable for non-BBs fans. I went with my girlfriend and she really liked it. The had goosebumps sometimes. After watching the movie, I show her real photos and videos of the BBs, and she couldn't believe all the resemblance.

I really love it! Don't want to be downer but I wish it was a more "prepared" demo. It seems he is improvising the lyrics at the very moment, so sometimes the song pauses too much. But it's great to finally have this gem, a missing link in Brian's voice history.
(great version of Love & Mercy also! -is that live?-)
